I am so glad to continue Fig Tree's partnership with my favorite thread company! I really can't say enough wonderful things about their threads, their colors, their quality and how lovely it is to work with the classy folks at Aurifil. Thank you Alex, Elena, Kim,  Dario and everyone else!

Besides working on some new goodies together, today I also happen to be be this month's AURIFIL DESIGNER OF THE MONTH! And I have had so much fun dreaming up this month's MINI!

Click HERE for more info, a really fun interview and a lot of great Fig Tree pics.

Inspired by the Fig Tree version of the Aurifil rainbow, I started working on this month's AURIFIL MINI QUILT. I played around with a bunch of different options but quickly settled on this one once I dreamt it up. I really love how it turned out and I really do think that the moment my next set of deadlines is done, I am going to work on a full size version…

What is that gorgeous linen?? I love these colors all playing together, but, I don’t think that there is a moment that I wouldn’t love them all!!!

  2. Allison | 16th Feb 15

lovely – can’t wait to try making these!

Beautiful! Love your Fig tree rainbow! Can you share what color/brand linen fabric you used? I am really loving the linen look backgrounds I have seen with yours and several other quilts lately.

Love your beautiful mini quilt and can’t wait to make it! I would love to see a picture of your first quilt, the pink one you bought at the flea market for 7$ … that was really a score!

Enjoyed your interview Joanna, and the ‘chubby’ blocks are very cute.

What fabric did you use for the background and are you going to kit it, I love it, Lorrainr

I’m really on a “mini-quilt” kick right now and love your adorable design. Looking forward to making it. Currently, though, working on the opposite of a mini: a king-size quilt using Fat Quarter Shop’s latest pattern and four layer cakes: Honeysweet, Mirabelle, Somerset, and Aloha Girl. They are playing so well together!! I will update through Instagram as I go along. Thanks for your adorable pattern and your interview!

    Susan-

The linen I used was from my stash but since I started that quilt, I have gotten my hands on some amazing linen feeling and look alike fabrics from MODA. Here are 4 that I love: Crossweave 12119-53 [ a bit darker than mine but that wonderful chambray woven feel], Crossweave 12120-52 [very similar in color but with a rougher weave in it for added texture, Weave 9898-78 a great color and feel in a printed fabric that looks like its woven, Rustic Weave 329-55-55 a printed fabric to look like a really rustic, rough weave, fantastic texture!
    Hope that helps!

Trying to figure out if I have the fabrics to kit it but if I do, it won’t be for another week or so as I am leaving to go out of town today!

Joanna, I love your mini churn dash quilt, and the background color adds such great texture to it! It makes the colors pop, kind of how a black background does, just in a softer way!! And I’m kicking myself: I thought I had some of the large floral with the navy background from your Avalon line, but I didn’t get any and have had no luck in finding any on the internet. Have you seen it around anywhere? It is a fantastic print!! Keep up with adding navy to your lines: it’s such a lovely color without being as harsh as black. (I have some of your Hawaiian line on pre-order: I know it has navy too.) And I hope you get safely back in town and have a bit of time to relax!! Hugs, H in Healdsburg

All your quilts are absolutely beautiful. What is that cream fabric with the small black dots? (and where can I get some?) I’ve seen you use it before and I absolutely adore it.

  16. Joanna | 23rd Feb 15

That is one of our favorite background options. It is a MODA fabric and we usually have it in stock so feel free to contact us anytime!

Your Somerset Aurifil threads are PERFECT to use while making the Modern Building Blocks Fig Tree Style! I was sewing with the pale green earlier tonight.
