2019 Wool BOM project is almost here!

ARE YOU JOINING US THIS YEAR?? We are so very excited about this year’s wool program.. we can hardly contain ourselves. For the last 2 years, we have done a large wool quilt as our mystery wool project and it has been crazy crazy popular with our customers. We have really loved working on each one. Why is it such a favorite you ask? 1- Because the colors of these wools are just too amazing… really… just look at them! Fig Tree colors at their best in the best wool on the market [made for us by Weeks Dye Works]! 2- Because wool is such a fabulous medium to work with if you want to try out a little appliqué… that is because it doesn’t have to be turned under at all. You cut out the shape and stitch it down.  Its amazing…

On the 11th Day of Christmas

On the  11th Day of Christmas my true love gave to me, eleven Pipers Piping. Again, I have to admit that the image of an entourage comes to mind but I don't want to repeat myself. Can you imagine the entrance one would make with eleven Pipers Piping? I am slowly running out of ways to reject this poor man's gifts. Perhaps eleven Pipers Piping isn't so bad…. But perhaps a little bit better, or at least a little bit cuter would be this super sweet flour sack tea towel with our latest critter on it. Please meet Hazel, the Hedgehog and the HAZEL FLOUR SACK TOWEL KIT. Not sure you all want a hedgehog story but here's one anyway. When my husband and I were first married, we collected hedgehogs of every kind and size imaginable- cards…

Warning: Picture Heavy!

You know how there are certain patterns that you remember sewing long after you are done with them? Those ones that become favorites no matter how many other quilts you have made in the meantime? In my case, that often means those are the patterns that are mysteriously “unavailable” to travel or go to shows because they are… well, they are being used on our couch! The original SUNWASHED pattern is one of those patterns. We have made it up in various different color combinations and are still in love with most of them, several of them are “regulars” in our quilt basket and get used on a daily basis.   THE ORIGINAL SUNWASHED PATTERN [MADE UP FROM OUR WHIMSY COLLECTION] ….on the cover of the pattern it is also made up out of our Mill House Inn collection     Something about the simplicity and yet complicated look…

Postage Stamps

Sometimes I want to work on something big and simple and a bit more modern. On those days I crave clean lines and brighter colors. I want to see a lot of white space and love to play with pattern. I love looking at shapes and positive and negative space to see what kinds of patterns will emerge. I feel expansive on those days :-)! Other days I retreat to little treats of handwork and sweet vintage images. I have a collection of vintage ephemera that includes fruit crate labels, postcards, stamps, ads, travel posters, school booklets and the list goes on and on. Some days all I need to do is immerse myself in those vintage images for inspiration. On those days I am very detailed oriented and love to focus in on the minutia of those vintage pieces of paper and the colors and images that they chose to…
