What are you sewing for… NATIONAL SEW A JELLY ROLL DAY?

Hello everyone and happy Friday! We’re always excited when the weekend rolls around, but this weekend is especially fun for us Moda designers because Saturday is National Sew a Jelly Roll Day! I think it’s pretty well documented that the jelly roll is my favorite precut, and you might say that I’ve designed “a few” (*wink wink*) patterns using this surprisingly versatile precut. (I even have an entire section of my website just for my jelly roll patterns…you can find it HERE.) So in honor of National Sew a Jelly Roll Day, I wanted to share a couple of jelly roll patterns that I think really show how a jelly roll can make a traditionally challenging quilt pattern much simpler to put together. I’m talking about stars—Lone Stars, to be specific! I love the timeless look of Lone Star quilts and I think every…

From the Vault: A Christmas Jelly Girl!

Hi everyone, and happy Friday to you all! Today I’m launching a new series on my blog called “From the Vault.” I’ve been designing sewing & quilting patterns for over 20 years, and I’ve honestly lost count of how many patterns I’ve written over those years—but it must be in the hundreds. These days, it feels like we’re always looking ahead with excitement to the next fabric collection that’s coming out, so I thought it would be a fun change of pace to take a look back at some of my earlier patterns that maybe you haven’t seen before (or not in a long time) and at the same time, freshen them up with a few of my current fabrics. Today’s pattern refresh doubles as a “Christmas in July” project! I decided to pull out Jelly Girl, an old favorite that…

Halloween Spools

Today we wanted to show you what we are working on at the moment and for our upcoming retail show in October [coming up way too soon!]. We have used one of our brand new patterns [for release in Houston at the end of October] and transformed it into a quick and simple Halloween quilt that we think you might just love as much as we do. The new pattern is called "Spools Quartet" and this version is "Halloween Spools" and it is made with 12 different warm blacks, soft greys and our signature butterscotch oranges. It is the kind of quilt that comes together in a weekend with simple cutting and construction. Whip one out this week just in time to display for Halloween… really and truly! These blocks are crazy simple with no triangles, using the square, sew and flip method that most…
