Finishing Up Our Cream & Charcoal Block of the Month

January always brings lots of fabulous quilt finishes for us. That is because each December, we finish up several of our Block of the Month programs. First up is our CREAM & CHARCOAL MYSTERY BLOCK OF THE MONTH, a program that started last January and just finished up in late December. Filled with 6″ black and cream blocks each month, the quilt had a variety of setting options available to the participants. The fabrics are a mix of soft blacks from our Farmhouse II collection, several prints from Urban Cottage from Urban Chicks as well as a few fabulous Gingiber prints and a mix of cream prints of all kinds and varieties! We decided to do the most simple of the three setting options provided, simply alternated blocks with a variety of cream fabrics and a plain patchwork border. We love how it feels and cannot wait to see…

Blockheads Block #3

Today is week #3 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 QUILT ALONG! Did you enjoy the second block last week? These have been a lot of fun so far and we are looking forward to so many more! And this is our version of the third block… This week we mixed it up even a bit more and added in some “non-Fig Tree” reds to our blocks. The result is quite yummy we think. Once again this time around, we chose a 12″ block not only because we love this block [have used it in several of our samplers] but we thought it lended itself to some larger pieces instead of teeny weeny ones! And if you know me at all, then you already know we did flying geese for all of these units instead of traditional triangles! I just love the accuracy we get with the…

MODA BLOCKHEADS: Block #2

Today is week #2 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 QUILT ALONG! Did you enjoy the first block? Even though we changed up the instructions on the first one to make it easier on ourselves, we really enjoyed making that one. It is quite lovely I think! And this is our version of the second block… This week we mixed up the reds a bit and used several of the fabrics from our RED & CREAM starter pack. Since it was a much more simple block, we decided to do a 6″ version for this second one since we will do a variety of block sizes for the various weeks and use a multi block setting. We decided to take the opportunity and “fussy cut” some of those cute little bees to put them into the corners for a little extra personality in this block. Kinda cute, right…

BLOCKHEADS TIPS & OUR METHOD

So we have been getting a lot of emails and DM questions as to how we did our version of Corey’s first BLOCKHEADS block so I thought I would share a real quick… All of the other measurements and construction will stay the same other than what I have changed here. We chose the 12″ block. Basically I made the units to make a sawtooth star block in the center and then added (4) hourglass units to the outer sides. The outer chain sections stay the same. This way I avoided triangles and bias, used my favorite SEW&FLIP method that I used in all of our patterns and for me… simplified the process a lot. The result was great! So… A,B,C are the same and the construction of that unit is the same. Piece D and E are both cut…

MODA BLOCKHEADS: WEEK #1

Today is the first day of MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 QUILT ALONG! Are you joining us? Each week we will share our version of each designer’s block and we will share some of our own tips and changes if we have made any. We will also share our color and size choices in case you are wanting to sew along with us. And this is our version of the first block… We went with one of our favorite red prints from Scarlet & Sage along with my all time favorite gingham and a few little cream prints. Kinda love how it turned out! We decided to do a 12″ block for this first one but we will do a variety of block sizes for the various weeks. We will share more of our layout details next week. I will also share my piecing directions [because as you…

GETTING READY FOR 2020

Hello Friends! I hope that you are having a restful and inspired first week of the year! I don’t know about you, but it always takes me a few more days than “it should” to organize myself for the new year. I am not a huge “hit the new year running” kind of girl even though I kinda wish that I was. It always takes me a few extra days to finish everything up, get everything out, organize myself and start dreaming about the new year. And I have so many new things to share with you guys that I almost don’t really know where to start! FAMILY UPDATE That week in between Christmas and New Year’s is always a total and complete blur to us. It is always such a strange time for our whole family… it is…

THANK YOU FOR PLAYING ALONG!

Just wanted to take a minute to thank each and every one of you for playing along on our crazy, crazy 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS SALE. It was something we started on a whim many years ago, and we would have never guessed how it would grow and how many of you would look forward to it each and every year. We still have some of our original customers, who participated and cheered us on that first year, still shopping with us so many years later. Giant shout out to you guys especially! A couple of points of business: The boxes are starting to ship out today. We are of course going as fast as we can go and trying to get as many out as we can. Even with that, it will probably take us about a week to get all of the boxes out the door so please…

12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS: DAY #11

Its the 11th day of the 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS SALE but since the elves took some shipping breaks in between… and maybe a little bit of a nog break while they were at it… it is the last and final day of the sale, Monday, so technically it is Day 12! Since its the last day of the sale this is how it will work: Today between 9:00 and 10:00 am, we will post the final day’s kit. A few hours later we will add in a few more items, and then a few more. We will not post anything else “officially” other than this first set of goodies. However we encourage you to keep checking throughout the day for extra goodies. There will be some good ones but you will only know if they are there, if you check in periodically! By…
