Halloween Harlequin

PATTERN SHOWCASE One of my favorite new Halloween patterns this year is our Halloween Harlequin pattern. A fabulous way to use a Layer Cake and work on a quilt that looks like it has templates… without actually having any! Over the years I have been drawn to many quilts that were all made from small and complicated templates and so I just admired them from afar. Templates are just not for me. I think I am too impatient and like to see immediate progress.. strip piecing is much more my style :-). But once in awhile I have decided to figure out how to get that special shape without a template and this is one of those projects. To see all of our HALLOWEEN projects, come on over HERE. First we did it with a Halloween palette… And then loved it so much that we decided to feature it…

Its another lovely Wednesday morning and you know what that means… its that time again. What’s even better is that its OUR DAY on the Blockheads adventure… I have to tell you that I have enjoyed this ride much more than I ever thought I would. I have loved seeing our red & cream version of the quilt emerge each week, block by block, but more than anything I have loved seeing your versions emerge over the months. So let’s keep going my friends! For my block this week, I decided to go for one of my personal favorites, the BROKEN DISHES BLOCK, a block that I have used over the years…

Figs & Friends Collaboration: Bundle #2

To those of you in the program… OUR SECOND FIGS & FRIENDS BUNDLE HAS JUST GONE OUT so be on the lookout! Here is a little backstory to this series in case you missed it… Earlier this year I went to a quilt show called ROAD TO CALIFORNIA and got to visit with my fellow MODA designer and friend, Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings. We sat in her booth while she stitched and talked about the show and our fabric. As I looked around me at the sea of blues and indigos [her newest collection called INDIGO GATHERINGS has just released], I thought about how I could use it even though it is so much darker than any fabrics I design for Fig Tree. And we started talking about how fabulous my orange would look with her blue [it was like one of those old Reese’s…

MODA Blockheads Block #25 and #26

Welcome to Week #26 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! Hello friends! Its another lovely Wednesday morning and you know what that means! I missed you guys last week… it was just one of those weeks, you know? I am sure we all have them. This week we are back to the lovely Janet Clare and her beautiful subdued design style. Check out her fun ZIGZAG BLOCK HERE and download the pattern directions. The thing I like the most about this particular pattern… you can pretty much make it any size you want! We opted for (1) strong red, (1) soft red/cream dot print and one ivory solid and the 6″ size. But this would also make such a wonderful strip design… just keep going until you reach the length you like! As you can see we used flying geese instead of HST’s…

Patriotic Flag Pillow Tutorial

Happy July! A couple of months ago, I did an Instagram takeover for Moda Fabrics and posted a quick video tutorial of this fun flag pillow that you can whip up in an afternoon. But sometimes it’s nice to have instructions in writing, so I thought I’d put that tutorial here on my blog as well, just in time for some last-minute patriotic sewing on this 4th of July weekend! (If you’re more of a visual person and haven’t seen the video tutorial, you can find it in my Highlights under the bio on my Instagram account, @figtreeandco.) This pattern is scrap-friendly, so dive into your scrap stash—or grab a few fat quarters for a more controlled look. Cutting Instructions Piece the Sawtooth Star…

MODA Blockheads: Block 24

Welcome to Week #24 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! Hello friends! Its another lovely Wednesday morning and you know what that means! This week we are back to Stacy and her whimsical design style. Stacy and I both share something near and dear to our hearts… we both live in California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. You might say we are “neighbors” so its nice to be working on this block :-). Check out those cute little blocks “WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR” through her link HERE and download the pattern directions. We actually kept our little houses separate and apart since we are going to put them into one of our sashing settings in the final layout… So we made (4) 4″ houses, each one a different red print and we are planning on mixing them up with some…

Announcing… FIGS & SHIRTINGS

Hello Fig Tree Friends… I am so happy to share my newest upcoming fabric collection for MODA fabrics. Every once in awhile, there is a group that just captures my heart before I even see it in person for the first time… and this is one of those collections for me. Introducing FIGS & SHIRTINGS, due in stores in October 2020. You all probably know that I draw a lot of inspiration from vintage quilts that I find while rummaging through flea markets. On one recent expedition, I spied an antique 1930s quilt that called my name, and from that quilt, Figs & Shirtings was born! Get comfy, because this post is jam-packed with lots of eye candy and helpful preorder information! FIGS & SHIRTINGS There were so many perfect prints in that quilt that begged to be brought back to life after nearly 100 years…but…
