MODA Blockheads: Block #13

Welcome to Week #13 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week is brought to you by lovely Jen Kingwell. I am sure you already know all about Jen and her fabulously eclectic, unique, colorful artistic eye, but if you don’t then you really have to see her and her work on her BLOG HERE. Jen and Richard are a wonderful team and such a pleasure to work and play with… and we have definitely done our fair share of both of those things over the years at Quilt Market. We love them both!! Her block is called THE BALDWIN… but I must admit that I have absolutely no idea why :-)… perhaps she will share with us the background of the name. Go over to her blog to check out her pattern and get all of the directions, etc. CLICK HERE . We chose the 8…

MODA Blockheads: Block #12

Welcome to Week #12 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week is brought to you by the fabulous Janet Clare. Her and her husband are a great pair to hang out with at Market… funny, smart and full of so many interesting ideas. Check out her blog HERE. Go check out her fabulous block and her work. Janet’s work is very… well, very Janet and very different from anything else… which is what I really love about it. She definitely has her own soothing, coastal vision. Her block is called HAMPSHIRE STAR… named after the part of England that inspired it. Go over to her blog to check out her pattern and get all of the directions, etc. CLICK HERE . We chose the 12″ size… usually when a block has this many pieces I think it is a good choice to…

MODA Blockheads: Block #11

Welcome to Week #11 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week is brought to you by the super lovely Robin Pickens. She is such a talented and creative soul and so full of energy & positivity. It has been a pleasure to get to know her a bit more during the last couple of shared events… like our big Chinese dinner after Road to California. Gotta love a huge… and I mean huge… lazy susan in the middle of the table, right Robin?! Check out her blog HERE. Go check out her fabulous block and her work. I think you will be inspired! It is called BLOOMING LOVE… and it is such a unique block. It was fun to work with the color placement on this one. Go over to her blog to check out her pattern and get all of the directions, etc. CLICK…

This Weekend is our OPEN HOUSE

Hello my quilting friends! Its a hard, crazy time right now and we wanted to let everyone know that we are thinking of you and hoping that you are okay, healthy and that quilting and sewing is given you a place to create, to relax and to take a minute to yourself. Especially for those of you who are taking care of small children, cooped up at home, or those of you at highest risk, it is so important to take some time out for yourself, even if its not a lot and to sew a little. We all know how soothing and calming the purr of that machine can be to us who sew and quilt! This was going to be the weekend of our 3rd OPEN HOUSE, Spring at Fig Tree [we had one for the fall and one for Christmas and this was going to be our…

IGQUILTFEST2020: Its our day today!

Have you guys ever participated in this fun online event? Each year, my friend Amy Ellis organizes this great opportunity for quilters to share and cheer each other on in Instagram. You guys should really come over and check it out, click HERE for more info. This year we are hosting a GIVEAWAY… today… and we are a sponsor of the event too! In between work craziness and the added insanity of what is happening in the world these days [in our county we are in a SHELTER IN PLACE ORDER which means that our whole family is home and we are not supposed to go anywhere other than for necessities in the grocery store… yikes], I have managed to do a few of the prompts this year including: The intro day where you get to see the rare picture of me [because usually my hair is…

MODA Blockheads: Block #10

Welcome to Week #10 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week is brought to you by the super creative Stacy Iest Hsu. Check out her blog HERE. Stacy designs the loveliest whimsical & creative kid’s collections… or maybe just collections for the kid in all of us. You should check out her work! Here is her block, WINDMILLS, inspired by her Dutch heritage. Go over to her blog to check out her pattern and get all of the directions, etc. CLICK HERE . We chose 2 different reds and 2 different creams for the “tail part of each windmill and a 3rd cream print for the rest of each pinwheel. Take a close look to see where each cream print falls to help you decide what you want to do for yours. More on the crocheted mushrooms and little people in a separate post later this…

Pineapple Quilt Progress

My friend Cynthia has been working on her Pineapple Quilt and is making a bit of progress each week… I am loving watching this sweet little quilt grow and evolve. We decided that my favorite soft yellow solid would be the perfect sashing for this quit and a great coordinating solid to go with our Catalina collection in general. More info at the end of this post. She used leftover pieces from her charm pack for the posts… choosing all cream prints and green prints. Any lighter prints would work well here I think. The reason I wouldn’t choose the brighter prints, is that we were going for a soft feel that would help each block stand out and really feature the prints and colors. SASHING INFO: The blocks are 6″ finished so that means 6 1/2″ unfinished and so the sashing would…

MODA Blockheads: Block #9

Welcome to Week #9 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week is brought to you by the beautiful and adventurous, Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique. Check out her blog HERE. Vanessa is one of two Vanessa’s on the MODA team so sometimes my husband Eric refers to her as Vanessa 2.0 :-). She is also the one that he treats like a little sister while we are at Market… in the most annoying ways he can think of. Not sure how many different times something has “disappeared” from her booth and ended up somewhere else. Not sure if Vanessa will read this or not but… I guess you are officially our honorary little sister. Or at least Eric’s LOL. Go over to her blog to check out her pattern and get all of the directions, etc. CLICK HERE . Inspired by her…
