Fig & Plum News & A Giveaway

So I hear that Fig & Plum has officially hit the streets or the shops rather. Why do I feel that every time a new collection finally reaches your hands that it has been the longest wait ever? None of the waits are probably any longer than the rest but somehow the one you are waiting for currently feels longer than all those others that came before… don’t you think? I am not known to be a patient person and this fabric designer thing certainly pushes that button on a regular basis, thank you very much! Anyway, I am thinking that Fig & Plum is a perfect autumn collection… the Fig Tree way.  Based on a faded vintage cream the line works in everything from a deep, saturated plum color to faded taupey-greys [a color by the way that if you’ve never worked with before… ooh…

Studio Updates

We are knee deep in that wonderful time of the year known as "pre-Market"…. need I say anything else! My advance yardage is finally here, my patterns are all about half done, my printer sees me pretty much every day and there are swatches and half used bolts of fabric all over the studio, the offices and even the living room. In fact since I was sick last week, my design computer has taken up house on our living room coffee table and my butt is seldom seen leaving the couch…. I could command armies from this post… wait a minute, I am commanding armies from this post! In the midst of the chaos that we all expect this time of the year, we have a few tidbits to share with you…. Our soon to be released Fig & Plum collection was featured…

Various & Sundry…

For the longest time, I had no idea what the words in that phrase above in the title actually were. Variousandasundry….. I just kind of said it all as one work, never stopping to think about what I was actually saying. Then one day I found the cutest little store in San Rafael CA… called, you guessed it, Various & Sundry [I don't even think it's there anymore].  How's that for your vocabulary tidbit for the day… most of you probably already knew it 🙂 So here is a few various & sundry items that i have been wanting to share with you… So here is a few various & sundry items that i have been wanting to share with you… 1. I once again have had the wonderful invitation to go to Paris… well to work &amp…

Something new…

Today is the first day that all three munchkins are in school at the same time… There is a glorious stillness in the house. I am even afraid to play my MammaMia music so as to not disturb the quiet. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE spending time with all 3 of my creatures [that is an affectionate name even if it doesn't sound like it. A story for another time]. But don't get me wrong, I LOVE the hours of stillness when they are otherwise occupied :-)! Definitely a day to finish up a few projects, a lot of paperwork & a little bit of sewing…   On a random side note, I finally figured out how to change my header… what do you think? It was way overdue and I am embarrassed to point out that it took we this…

Summer’s End…

I've been M.I.A.  for almost two weeks now. Is something major going on over here, you might wonder? Could it possibly be that we have already begun the countdown to Fall Market? Could there possibly have been a major photo shoot happening at our house lately? Well, maybe…  but more importantly all three of my wonderful little munchkins have been home with no camp for the past 2 weeks, we have gone on vacation to Catalina Island and my dad has visited for several days!  I can handle all those work deadlines without breaking a sweat [well, maybe with a small sweat] but its the entertaining and keeping of a 10 year old, 7 1/2 year old and an almost 4 year old that has put me seriously behind in my blogging responsibilities… its a very different kind of energy…

French General

During my jaunt to Long Beach I had the great opportunity to take one little side jaunt to a little place that I had wanted to visit for such a very long time. So after we walked the show, I put my vintage fabric goodies in the trunk of the car [I’ll have to show you those another time], my MODA colleagues in the front [they wouldn’t fit in the trunk :-)] and then… picture this…. I rolled down the top of my RED CONVERTIBLE rental car and headed out toward Hollywood!  Okay, if that doesn’t give you a visual…. I don’t know what will! So here we are, navigating the infamous LA freeway system, that’s right, let me just say it again, in a RED CONVERTIBLE…. could we have been any more Southern California?  I don…

Quilt Show bits

Last weekend I got the great opportunity to literally “pop in” to the Long Beach show, look around at all the wonderful booths [a lot of whom where using my fabric here and there… I think that I will always get a kick out of that no matter how long I have been a designer…] and have some fun time with some colleagues from MODA. Now there is a pair of fun gals… in case you’re reading ladies! I was there for such a short time that after a quick walk through of the show, I pretty much buried myself in the vintage quilt and fabric booths, which the show placed all together for our viewing convenience. OOOHHHH I could have spent the whole weekend there, sifting through the bins of vintage fabric, fondling the antique quilts and imagining the hundreds of things…

Summertime….

I’m still here, working the summer away, daydreaming about what it was like when I had summers off. What was  that like anyway? I keep telling my kids, “back when I was a little girl….” kinds of stories until their eyes roll up into the back of their heads and they run screaming from the room :-)… hey, if you can’t use your kids for entertainment then why have them at all?? 🙂 I haven’t gotten a chance to see the movie yet, but have been listening to the soundtrack of Mamma Mia non stop in my studio this past week. Those are some truly fun songs I tell ya! Somehow it makes me want to run through the grass barefoot with a billowing skirt behind me [I don’t wear billowing skirts, but bear with me, its a mental image…
