Fresh Vintage Birds

This is one of those projects that has been in my imagination for over a year now but somehow never made onto the actual fabric. My friend Denise finally got tired of me talking about it over and over & said “Just make it already!”… so here are a few little shots of a few of my favorite blocks. Now I am sure many of you have alredy heard of my technical woes, but I have to warn you that these photos are not great given that I managed to take 4 shots before my battery died and I realized that my battery pack was still in my quilters kitchen where I had last plugged it in…. I know, there’s always a story :-)… My inspiration for this quilt… my all time favorite Cavallini bird, work and egg file folders. I file everything…

Jellies & “Pixies” & Ferries Oh My…

I have been taking a little hiatus for the last week and a half- good friend houseguests [6 of them] turned into some house cleaning projects, turned into a summer cold… Some Serious Patchwork In the midst of it all I have been having a lot of fun mixing my fabric lines… makes me sound like a mad scientist doesn’t it? When I am working on quilt projects, I usually need to try to stay within the latest fabric collection or mix the colors of the current line and the one I am about to debut at the next quilt Market. More often than not, I design quilt patterns that incorporate only the most recent fabric collections. But something has hit me this summer and I have started working on several patterns that mix all my favorite pieces from the last 4 or 5 lines. I…

“Charm”ing Jelly Winners

Well, it is still technicaly Friday here in California although I am sure that many of you have long gone to bed in your part of the world. I have finally finished design & quilt work for the day [although there is still a little bit of applique in my near future], put the kids to bed, cleaned the kitchen, folded some laundry and am now sitting and watching back-to-back “Murder She Wrote” episodes on my TIVO…. I wanted to thank all of you for your wonderful comments. It was so inspiring for me to hear about all of the things you are making or want to make with our fabrics and patterns. I was really touched by so many of your comments. I have tried to answer many of you and I truly apologize that I was not able to answer each and every…

Summertime projects

I know that this might sound a bit like whining, but it is just now, a good week after I have returned from my vacation that I feel like I have finally recovered. Now don’t get me wrong… I loved my vacation. I always love my vacation. Every year right around this time, our closest friends and their 3 children along with us and our 3 children pack our whole lives into our mini vans, including our dog and whatever vacation project I have dreamed up and we drive a few hours into Sonoma County to the Russian River Valley. There we unpack those same minivans, buy a lot of good food, blow up a lot of inflatable toys and spend the next week swimming, eating, playing games, talking, canoing, sunbathing, rock skipping, eating some more, just to name a few activities. In between all of that…

Easiest Handbags Ever… Really!

For those of you who have been searching… your search is over. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about… read on. What all this is about is…. leather handles! If you have been working on one of these great handbags from the pattern “Easiest Handbags Ever”> then most likely you have been searching far and wide for those wonderful leather handles. Now I know that fabric handles are just as lovely… but I have recieved so many retail requests for these fantastic handles that I have ordered them from Korea and they are currently on their way across the ocean. Many of them are already spoken for but I have ordered several dozen extra and I wanted to offer them to you bloggy gals first. I will have them available [while supplies last] in both the apricot/beige…

Fences, Amish & other delights

My life turned a sharp [well perhaps I’m being just a bit dramatic] turn a few days ago when our trusted contractor of old called us to say that his guys had some time to do all those little projects we had wanted him to do but he never had time [this includes everything from serious garage work, to building furniture, to altering a porch, to fixing concrete, and on and on…]. Well that is all well and good and we are very glad he can fit us into his schedule, but WE’RE NOT READY! The garage has become a depository of every imagineable piece of flea market furniture, random boxes, old kid’s toys, scattered tools, dog beds, garden trash,… remember that photo I showed you of my studio floor right after Market? Well imagine that x10, garage size! Its an ugly…
