MODA BLOCKHEADS 5 continues! We are on Week 16 of Part 2 and it’s my turn to bring you all another block…meet: DOUBLE STAR!

In case you haven’t been following along with MBH5, we decided that the perfect theme for this scrappy star sampler is a classic ‘Fig Tree Christmas’ in reds, greens, and a large variety of cream prints. You can check the blog for weekly reference posts if you’d like to join us. It’s never too late!

Back to this week’s block…it’s really hard for me to pick my favorites when it comes to star blocks, but this DOUBLE STAR block is at the top for sure! Part of it is because I get to squeeze in two stars into one block, and part of it is because that gives me more fabrics to play with! There really is something so timeless and classic about star blocks so two can only be better if you ask me!

Sooooo… this has finally happened. We have been

Sooooo… this has finally happened. We have been planning and dreaming about welcoming quilty friends for a retreat for quite some time and we were finally able to pull it off. We are still in the midst of it this weekend but we hosted opening night at our barn and it was a magical night I think… Thank you to all of our guinea pig participants and we hope to have more to come! Thank you @modafabrics @fatquartershop and many others for your donations (more on that later). The June issue of American Patchwork & Quilting (A

The June issue of American Patchwork & Quilting (APQ) is LIVE, again exploring the conversation on modern vs. traditional quilting!

For this issue, I invited my dear friend Jen Kingwell (@jenkingwell) to join me to talk about the continuum of traditional and modern quilting. I have been a fan of Jen’s and her unique scrappy quilt interpretations from the moment I met her and was so happy she agreed to join this conversation.

Jen and I decided to design quilts using the Churn Dash block. I decided to play with color in an unusual way so that even though the pieces are still a churn dash, the color placement makes it look like a totally different block.

Finishing up one of our annual block of the month

Finishing up one of our annual block of the month programs is at the very top of my list of favorite things. The way that I work on these programs, along with everyone else who is sewing, keeps it fun and exciting for me but also, I just never know exactly how it’s all going to come together in the end! I mean I have a rough idea clearly 😂😜… but not all the details. Which is one of the things I love the most about the whole process. I definitely had a major “love” moment when I laid this all out for the first time last week. Happy Easter everyone! Regardless of what your faith tradition is, what you might believe or what today means for you, we can certainly all gather together and celebrate hope and new birth! 🐣🌿🌸🌱This is my hope for everyone who follows me here… that even if things feel hopeless and dark, I pray you can grab onto hope, remember there is always another chance, there is always another day to begin again. To those of us in my faith tradition……..He is Risen!……. And a quick slightly off topic story, but speaking of new birth, I can’t tell you the joy it brought around here a few weeks ago when our chickens started laying these beautiful eggs again. Given how early in the year they stopped laying last year and their age, we thought that they were done laying. So we couldn’t be happier that once again, we are swimming in these beautiful eggs. Sometimes it’s the little tiny things in life that bring the most joy. Happy Easter everyone! #happyeaster #figtreeandco #backyardchickens
