Welcome to Day #1 of the 12 Days of Christmas: Fig Tree Style! Each day we will have a different kit, a different sale and even a few giveaways along the way. Join us each day so that you don't miss out on a single thing. We are so excited to share all of our goodies with you!
I guess today is part 12 Days of Christmas Post and part Pattern Debut, since we haven't gotten a chance to show you this brand new pattern yet!
SCHOOLDAY SATCHELS
One of my favorite new patterns this fall is the SchoolDay Satchel. Both bags are fashioned after my favorite little everyday bag- one just much bigger than the other. I use both bags every day and I absolutely love each for the purpose that they serve- the little one is my favorite little everyday purse and the Laptop bag is, well, my perfect, classy, unique laptop bag that goes with me pretty much everywhere!
Its not often that I get to keep the prototypes that we make for the pattern cover but I just haven't been able to resist either one of these!
First up, the little satchel…
… the perfect little handbag size.
… both sizes together. The perfect combination!
… another view. Buckles are decorative on both versions. Both bags are simple and basic and accessible to any level of sewer. No complicated assemblies here!
Kits for this version available, here. See special offer below!

Second up, the laptop version of the exact same satchel. The pattern cover shows it in a brighter red version but we have also made it up in this wonderful dark grey version from French General, meant as a perfect neutral combination for any outfit.
… front of the laptop bag. One pocket on the front outside just like on the purse version. Fully lined inside.
… just a little closer in. A little bit of simple hardware goes a long way to make both of these bags look quite "professional' with very little extra work.
Kits for this version available here.

I really like these bags!
Marcia K | 26th Nov 11
Very nice. Very much like the fabric you used. I never take my laptop anywhere, because I never go anywhere.. but IF I did.. that would be fantastic!
Claudia | 26th Nov 11
My local quilt shop has scheduled a class so we can make your new bag together. I’m looking forward to the fun of making it in a group.

Having a kit for this pattern is such a great idea. Often I see a bag or tote pattern I love but I am deterred from making the bag because I cannot find the right hardware right away. Bravo for thinking the kit through and making it easier to complete. Also, I love the taupe colors.
Brandy M. | 26th Nov 11
Love both of the bags. Perfect purse and carry bag sizes!
Jenniffier | 26th Nov 11
Oh I so wish that the kit was in red for the laptop bag. Great pattern. Is just the pattern for sale yet?

Great bags. I’m always looking for the right size for a laptop.
poppyinpink | 26th Nov 11
This is a neat bag almost unisex, which is great because I am looking for something to suit a young man.

Both of these are so cute! I love the red but I also love the gray…I feel like I should do the Eenie Meenie Minee Moe, Catch a Tiger by the Toe to decide which is prettier!
Hope ya’ll had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Joan | 26th Nov 11
Love the bags, especially the red one!
Nicole Willmore | 26th Nov 11
Oh my heavens, these bags are adorable. I think I need to make one for my ten year old. I started making her a messenger bag that I was designing, but these are much cuter. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment on my blog – can I just tell you how much that made my day. Your just amazing – I love your fabric. I just got a fat eighth bundle of your newest that I’m doing a Bake shop project for. And Butterscotch and Roses – I’m making a grandmothers flower garden table topper out of, it’s turning out so pretty. Thanks again!!!

Yes, this can absolutely be done for a young or adult man. It all depends on the fabric styles you choose.
