Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We have been having an insane heatwave... triple digits for multiple days in October. What the heck?! But I know it could be much worse and all my prayers are going out to those in the path of the upcoming Hurricane Milton. I can’t even imagine!

On a lighter note, I have more BUON NATALE goodies to show you today. This is one of our top selling patterns of all time and for sure the number #1 Christmas pattern [but Oh Christmas Tree is right up there too I guess and Christmas Wreaths... okay I digress] ... YULETIDE SPRUCE done up in the new BUON NATALE fabrics. Honestly, this might be my favorite version yet. That slightly darker green just makes the various tones of reds shine even more. And that border print?! I am all about that print!

This pattern is made with a HONEYBUN but can of course also be made with scraps and yardage. Each tree is its own little picture.

A BREAK IN BUON NATALE PROGRAMMING TODAY....

Today I am so happy to announce my sixth and final article in this year’s MODERN & TRADITIONAL QUILTING series in AMERICAN PATCHWORK & QUILTING. If you missed it, I have had the pleasure of exploring the topics of modern and traditional quilting with 6 wonderful designers this year and this is our last edition of the quilts and the conversation. For this episode, Denyse Schmidt did me the honor of joining us and I think talking to her about this topic was the perfect way to wrap up this year long series, don’t you?

For today I want to share with you my quilt for the article, OHIO STAR TWINKLE, and happy to let you know that we do have kits! This was a really joyful quilt for me to make... mixing scrappy reds, creams and a favorite green for this festive outcome. AND I am honored that the quilt made the cover of this December issue... many thanks APQ ladies! Thank you also @quiltedgrammy for your fabulous quilting and as always @cahslz for being my sewing buddy!

So hopefully you have been enjoying the photo barrage from all the @modafabrics designers this week as we showcase some of the things coming next year. It is always a bit strange to be showing you something that won’t be available for more than six months, but that is the way it is in terms of fabric design. Hopefully you all enjoy the ride with us!

So are you ready for another BUON NATALE pattern showcase today?

This one is definitely “by popular demand” as you guys have been asking me for a tree skirt for sooo long. This is an easy one to put together with some fabulous holly blocks and some berries. It is pieced in a regular “quilt” way and then bound. No circular cutting or anything fancy.... just regular binding all the way around. As for cutting the center and the slit? If you have an artificial tree and don’t want to do the slit... you can do that. As for those of us natural tree people, we will need the slit and have the opportunity to use the beautiful coordinating ribbons to this collection [more on those next week].

This is definitely something that is “doable” so no need to be scared… I promise! The skirt is made on the larger size so that it will cover up any larger tree and still have plenty of “skirt” left for all those presents. And speaking of skirts and presents... do you know how hard it is to photo a full size tree skirt on a mini tree in September during a heatwave? Just saying... Eric thought I had lost my mind a little when I asked him to bring the mini artificial tree in from the store today…

Today is another BUON NATALE pattern debut... and

Today is another BUON NATALE pattern debut... and possibly my personal favorite in the line up!

If you follow along you might know about my love of vintage quilts and how they are an endless font of inspiration for me. This quilt is another direct reproduction for me... one that I just could not get out of my head until I recreated it. There were so many color options for this one [and I will be showing several different mockups on the blog soon] that it was REALLY hard to narrow it down to just a few. RED on an IVORY BACKGROUND won as my favorite with a GREEN BACKGROUND with IVORY blocks as a close second. I could not resist an accent border in the opposite color on both of these samples but you could also ofcourse stick to entirely one color for a timeless, non seasonal quilt.

As always, it is all strip-pieced and uses the SEW&FLIP method that I have always loved to use in my patterns. There are 3 different sizes in the pattern depending on how adventurous you want to be and what you are looking for.

PINE VERSION [large lap]: 64” square
IVORY/RED VERSION [small lap]: 52” square
RED VERSION [wall hanging]: 40” square

For the next week plus, I will be sharing the goodies that go with BUON NATALE… and there are ALOT of goodies this time around so buckle up friends! First up today… a new pattern reveal. Grab your favorite charm packs and sew up this charming holiday pattern (get it, charming, charm pack 😳). Introducing… STARRY PINES. Twinkling star blocks make up a simple Christmas tree shape. It’s a pattern without a lot of fuss that shows off the collection and creates a lovely holiday feel in no time. Designing charm pack projects is always a fun challenge for me and this one will go down as a favorite for sure. Thank you @cahslz for always sewing along with me and a special thank you to @thefeltedpear for quilting this with your wonderful work.

Remembering my epic harvest spread for my book club. I think I might need to do this again!? It is such a wonderful way to entertains d to have dinner. Now that we are empty-nesters.
