Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!
That winner, winner, chicken dinner thing… never get tired of saying it. You, however, might be tired of hearing it from me because I am pretty sure that is the title of any post I have ever done with a giveaway winner in it. LOL!! Well, at least I am consistent.
Anyhow…. thanks for your patience. At our house, it is still Tuesday at the moment. So technically I am still okay to post even though I know that for many of you, it will be Wednesday before you get a chance to check back, so sorry for the delay. A couple of deadlines hit the studio today and the post had to take a back seat.

VINTAGE QUILT
For the many of you who have emailed or commented on the vintage quilt I showed, I am with you on the space feeling theme of the pattern! It is apparently not a rocket related pattern at all nor a nuclear bomb shelter symbol either! Instead it is a variation on a pattern called CHIPS & WHETSTONES but I haven't been able to discover the origin of the name.
The quilt that I found was most likely made in the late 1800's due to the fabrics but I can't swear to it since I haven't had it officially looked at by anyone with enough credentials to tell me for sure!

… it sure is a lot of half square triangles but still a beauty I think I might recreate sometime soon!

That star quilt blows me away!! The design is so simple and so intricate at the same time.
The quilt itself looks very thin, like it only has a backing and no filler. What does it feel like? (Or are vintage quilts thinner due to age?)

Feeling pretty jealous of Jacque right now!! 😉 Love it when vintage quilts find a home with someone who quilts! I rescued an orange & green 1930’s quilt top from a junk store & quilted it. The piecing isn’t perfect in it, but that just gives it more character. I often daydream about the person who might have pieced it. It’s one of my favorite things.

That new find makes me want to crawl under the quilt, it is so simple yet so very pretty. I love the chicken towels, have to get some as grandkids just acquire chickens and made a chicken coop. We also use to say “chiken chiken what is for dinner”. I love thinking back!!

wow the star quilt is stunning. how big are the half square triangle blocks? they look to be only an inch or so. Star quilts will always have a place in my heart. and yes if is chicken dinner and a winner it has got to be good, so you can just keep saying it:) Love your sweet cream bundles.

The half square triangles are 1 or so so that would make the whole star 16. I love it!

I go to our monthly flea market here, Alameda Point Flea Market, but there are NEVER this many goodies at once. This last Sunday was amazing by way of quilts. And I missed out on my favorite one to a customer right in front of me. Can still picture that one too! The one that got away always haunts me!

That star quilt is incredible!!! I don’t know what flea markets you frequent but I am incredibly jealous! I never find anything that fabulous at ours! Is there any chance we can convince you to give us a shot of it in full?
I have one that my great grandmother quilted (I suspect) in the 1930’s.. it’s got the traditional 30’s colors in a sunbonnet sue pattern. Everyone in the family wanted it but she sent it home to me. A few years later I learned to quilt and we lost Great MaMa but I still like to imagine what she must’ve been thinking about when making it.
I never talked much about quilting with her but I learned this year that my Great Grandpa quilted with her!! 🙂 I don’t know if he had anything to do with the quilt I’ve got but I know he slept under it, and since I never got to meet him, that means a lot 🙂 3 generations later and she’s still keeping us warm and loved.

Hi, what fabulous finds. I have one from my mom (grandmother’s flower garden done all by hand) and a couple of quilt tops that I bought at an estate sale. Need to have time to go over them with a fine tooth comb before I finish them, don’t want to find loose stitches after I have put them together. Thanks for the great pictures. The quilts look like they are in very good condition.
