ORANGE BLOSSOMS SEW ALONG INFO

Hello Quilty Friends!

Today we are going to get started on our much anticipated ORANGE BLOSSOMS SEW ALONG. Welcome to those of you who have been patiently waiting since we first showed the fabric photos and also welcome to those of you who have no idea what I am talking about :-)!! Keep reading for all the pertinent info below…

THE STORY

This bundle and quilt came about one morning a few weeks ago when I came into the cutting room and Megan had laid out a lovely stack of creams with bits of orange and green in them. She thought maybe it would make a good pick for one of our Friday Bundles that we put in the shop for our weekly newsletter. She liked the name “Orange Blossoms” as she had been working in her garden all weekend and was still reminiscing about the lovely scent of her orange trees.

The minute I saw it… my mind kind of went sideways and I couldn’t get the colors and the idea out of my head!! This HAD to be the beginning of a summer patchwork quilt with oranges… oranges and leaves to be exact. Even though I think I had 3 different deadlines that day, all I could think of was that bundle and what I could add to it to make it a summery orange based project. And so the fabric search was on. We combined and looked and ordered some more fabrics… we played and edited… all the while I was supposed to be working on deadlines! But sometimes an idea will just not leave your brain, you know?

So finally I found a few favorite oranges, a bundle of spring feeling greens and that wonderful stack of creams with hints of orange and green. The quilt was born.

Now… what to do with it since there was no way I had time in the production schedule to design, print and produce another pattern right now. So this is what we came up with…

THIS IS HOW THE SEW ALONG WILL WORK

  • Each week for 3 weeks, we will release a portion of the project. This week we begin with Week #1: THE ORANGE BLOCK. If you keep up during the three weeks, you will have a finished orange themed summer patchwork once you are done. It will be app. 63″ square.
  • Each week we will post here on Monday with some pics of the next section and any other info you might need or want for that week.
  • We will be working along with the Sew Along in our FACEBOOK GROUP, FIG TREE QUILTS FRIENDS. People will share their progress, pics of their cutting and piecing, etc. Its a great place to be a community! But don’t worry if you are not on Facebook, that’s okay, social media is not for everyone so don’t feel bad. It is just a fun place for us to cheer each other on and see how everyone is progressing. You will be able to get your info here and the patterns in the shop each week.
  • Each Tuesday [the day after the release], the pattern for that week’s blocks will become available for purchase in our shop. Anyone can participate at that point.
  • The patterns will be available for purchase throughout April and May.
  • We will be using the hashtag #orangeblossomsquilt if you want to follow along.

FOR THOSE WHO PURCHASED THE FULL ORANGE BLOSSOMS KIT

  • Your “entrance” to this 3 week sew along comes with the kit. Welcome! You will be getting an email with the pattern sometime before noon today… assuming the internet cooperates and your system likes ours! If you have ever opted out of our weekly email newsletter… you will need to opt back in because that is how the email will be sent to you.
  • You will get a similar email next Monday and the Monday after that for all 3 installments of the pattern.
  • Your patterns will be free of charge… a perk of purchasing the kit!

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO PURCHASED ONE OF THE CREAM OR GREEN STARTER BUNDLES OR ARE WORKING WITH YOUR STASH

  • Welcome to you as well, we are so very glad you are joining us! Each Tuesday, the day after those who purchased the kit have received their pattern via email, the pattern for that week will become available in our FIG TREE SHOP HERE for purchase.
  • The pattern will be on our FEATURED PAGE. If for whatever reason you are unable to locate it, simply search in the search bar for Orange Blossoms and it will come up for you.
  • You will need to purchase the pattern parts, each week for 3 weeks, each Tuesday, in order to complete the quilt.
  • The pattern will only come in a downloadable PDF version. So sorry that we will not be able to offer paper patterns of this project at this time.

SOME INFO ON THIS WEEK’S SECTION: THE ORANGE BLOCKS

This week we will be working on the orange blocks. Photos and more info, hints and tips will be coming tomorrow after all of the kit folks get their pattern.

See you then!
