Welcome back to week 2 of our Fig Friend Feature – this time, we are taking a look at the TINY VINTAGE BASKETS TABLETOPPER companion project using the Jelly & Jam collection.
Finished Size: 32 1/2″ x 37 1/2″ – Pieced by Kristyne Czepuryk/Quilted by Judy Sutton
Let’s learn a little more about our STRAWBERRY GARDEN BOOK contributor, shall we?
I have long loved Kristyne’s soft delicate style and especially her beautiful handmade bags, pouches and other sweet goodies. Have you all seen her IG feed? So romantic. I met Kristyne many years ago when she designed several fabric collections for MODA… we happened to be right next to each other at Market. I loved getting to know a bit more about her then and hope you all go over to her socials and “meet” her there too.
1- Tell me your favorite quilt block and if there is a reason that is so.
It is absolutely Grandmother’s Flower Garden or a hexagon flower. Or anything made with hexagons, really. It was the very first quilt I made and will always have special place in my heart.
2- Tell me a bit about how you found quilting.
I spent a few summers working at an historical village depicting life from the late 1800s – early 1900s. My job was to enact daily life, so I was taught by a fellow co-worker how to English paper piece hexagons (40 years ago who remains a dear friend to this day!) and quite happily quilted the summers away.
3- Tell me your favorite Fig Tree color and a reason if there is one.
Gosh, that’s a hard one, but there’s just something about Joanna’s butterscotch … perhaps it’s simply the name? 😉 Many years ago I made Joanna’s adorable pumpkin pincushion with the perfectly colored butterscotch prints from the Mill House Inn collection. Gosh I loved that little pumpkin! Sadly, I gave it away and just never got around to making myself another one. Maybe someday!
4- If you were to suddenly have unlimited time, could drop everything and make one of the quilts in the book from start to finish… which one would it be and why?
The sampler, hands down!
