PATTERN ROUND-UP: ALL THINGS ‘STRAWBERRY’

If you are part of our FACEBOOK GROUP, you might know that from March 20th through April 4th this year, we are hosting a STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL!

What’s a Strawberry Festival you might ask? Well, it’s just a great excuse to sew up and show off a strawberry-inspired project if you ask me, but my good friend and Facebook Group Admin Susan [@thefeltedpear] has a great description:

“Springtime and strawberries are pretty much synonymous for me, and Joanna has a strawberry pattern for everyone! I will be showing off some of my favorite previous makes and a few new ones, too!” -Susan

So in honor of the upcoming Strawberry Festival, I thought I’d give you a pattern round-up of my most popular strawberry patterns! Let me know if you’ve made any of these -or- if you are planning to during our FACEBOOK GROUP celebration.

Enjoy!

BERRIES

Available via PAPER or PDF

This pattern is the perfect excuse to play with your favorite summer-feeling charm pack! Simple construction & fun [optional] PRAIRIE POINTS finish off this charming seasonal runner. One of the best things about this quilt is how using the “SEW & FLIP” method makes shapes such as berries and leaves so simple. A perfect weekend project that will bring you months of berry joy & loveliness to your kitchen or table.

BERRY SWEET BAG

Available via PAPER or PDF

This is a sweet, very simple little bag for a girl of any age. It can easily be made either quilted or merely sewn…whichever you prefer. Choose the shoulder bag with one handle or the handbag with two shorter handles and finish off with a little flower accessory, if you like. Simply adjust the handle to accommodate a taller girl and the purse immediately works for anyone of any age with a whimsical style! Any way you look at it, this is an irresistible little goodie!

COVENTRY

Available via PAPER or PDF

The moment the JELLY & JAM fabric collection started to come together in my head, and I saw the first set of swatches, I knew I wanted to create something with chintz dishes and mason jars. This was one of those designs that just came together so easily straight from my head to the page.

Following in the footsteps of our wildly popular FAIRYTALE PUMPKINS, this pattern is 3 quilts in 1! Available in a lap size row by row sampler, a table runner, and a mini table topper, COVENTRY is your own quilted version of a British countryside cottage armoire…or at least the one in my head!

FIGS & WOOLIES: STRAWBERRY-O

Available via PAPER or PDF

“FIGS & WOOLIES” is a series of 4 seasonal wall hanging designed and created to feature the wool bundles created with hand over dyed Weeks Dye Works wools. Perfect for when you need a good hand project, this collection of “FIGS & WOOLIES” is a great way to showcase some of those wools and add a little charm to your home. We are in love!

The background of each of these is simply pieces from a few cream and ivory prints to give the entire piece a wonderful patchwork, handmade feel. The appliqué is either entirely or almost entirely wool, so it is simple and straightforward…since wool does not have to be turned under. Just cut, glue and stitch down! [HINT: we have an UPDATED BLOG POST with lots of information if you are new to wool applique – check it out!]

Strawberry-O is a lovely little woven basket filled with strawberries, leaves, and blooms. A bit of embroidery added for extra detail. Too sweet!

…and we still have some STRAWBERRIES & RHUBARB WOOL BUNDLES in our ‘WOOL GOODIES’ section of the shop which is perfect for this project – and many others.

PINECONES

Available via PAPER or PDF

OK, here me out on this one…

Whenever I showcase these lovely PINECONES, I always get a few comments on how striking a resemblance they are to strawberries – so in the spirit of Spring, we are EMBRACING IT! Make your own strawberries/pinecones as decor -or- fill with walnut shells and use as a pincushion [we all know I have a slight obsession with those, don’t we?!].

A simple shape with a variety of little leaves stitched on the top makes for a charming and fun hand project. Come to think of it, we did a YouTube Christmas Ornament Tutorial/Video that gives a closer look at these lovelies…and even a few tips for making your own!

STRAWBERRIES FOR SALE

Available via PAPER or PDF

Making dish towels is one of my favorite “in between” projects and whenever I find a little bit of time, I am dreaming up another one. A bit of appliqué and needlework embellish a plain FLOURSACK TOWEL to brighten and add a bit of charming personality to any kitchen. I think that strawberries are the perfect accompaniment to any kitchen, any time of the year, but especially in summer, and these couldn’t be any sweeter!

STRAWBERRY BLOSSOMS

Available via PAPER or PDF

The moment we created our STRAWBERRIES & RHUBARB fabric collection, I knew it was time that we designed a strawberry quilt to accompany it. It had to be simple to piece and unique, and I was up for the challenge. I’m so pleased with the movement and design pop!

STRAWBERRY GARDEN

Available via BOOK

The main part of the book begins with one of my all-time favorite Fig Tree Samplers, the STRAWBERRY GARDEN SAMPLER, and then we add in some amazing companion projects featuring many of the quilts from the sampler itself. We have lap quilts, pillows, table runners, table toppers and more…oh my!

All of the projects in the book are based on the delicious JELLY & JAM fabric color scheme and can be done scrappy and in so many different color combos, as well. There is so much to choose from!

Here’s the “official” intro to the book…

“Get ready to bring a garden oasis indoors with the Strawberry Garden Sampler. This block of the month quilt is as refreshing and irresistible as a bowl of freshly picked berries. Strawberries, flowers, garden gates, baskets and bows are arranged in neat garden rows. Month by Month, row by row, you’ll see your quilty garden grow. The Strawberry Garden’s bounty knows no end! In addition to the block of the month quilt, there are four bonus quilts, one table runner, one table topper and three pillows featuring beautiful blocks from the sampler.”

We also did an “official” STRAWBERRY GARDEN BOOK introduction here on the blog – and you can see that BLOG POST HERE for more information…and lots more pictures!

STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE

Available via PAPER or PDF

These are easily the simplest pincushions we have ever made, but we just fell in love with the idea of making 4-5 of them at a time & filling jars! And so we did! The small ones are just the perfect size for the large mason jars, and you can fill (3) of them inside fairly easily. The big one makes a perfect pincushion.

STRAWBERRY SWIRL

Available via PAPER or PDF

Working to create fun and unusual patterns that can easily be made with a jelly roll, or your favorite collection of 2 1/2″ strips, is one of my favorite “pattern assignments” as a designer. This block has all of the things that I love about a jelly roll quilt…plenty of color and print variety, easy construction with the SEW & FLIP method, and a lot of movement with all of those swirls.

STRAWBERRY ZIPS

Available via PAPER or PDF

Starting with our original STRAWBERRY FIELDS fabric collection we have always had our eye on sweet strawberry prints & goodies. This little coin purse is another addition. A simple introduction to working with a zipper, this bag takes all the difficulty and mastery out of adding a zipper into a bag. Really! A perfect little project for sewing notions, a coin purse, makeup…or practically anything, the Strawberry Zips mini purse is a perfect afternoon project!

FABRIC PULL INSPIRATION

We had some lovely STRAWBERRY SEASON fabric bundles in the shop – which have since SOLD OUT – however I still wanted to showcase it here. Many of these fabrics are from my most recent PORTOFINO fabric collection – in stores now! Use this photo to take inspiration and shop your stash or your favorite quilt shop!
