WINTER QUILT PATTERN ROUND-UP

We’re giving the “winter blues” a whole new meaning over here this week!

We wanted to take the opportunity to round up all of our favorite blue quilts and show a few new favorites done in blue combinations. As you think through what kinds of blues are your favorite… remember that there are so many options. You could use navy tones, or denims. You could focus on sky and light blues or even aquas… anything blue counts!

FIG 1, 2, 3: HANKIES [Recolored in Denim & Daisies]

Available as PAPER or PDF.

Two sizes:
Lap: 55″ x 63″
Table Topper: 40″ x 40″

Every year we see more and more beginning quilters who want to try their hand at something fun and beautiful that is not outside of their skill level. We thought maybe we could help a little with this one!

For this project, you have a few center options and then you will learn how to make this classic “scallop” border on either a lap or a topper size quilt! It does look pretty perfect in DENIM & DAISIES, don’t you think?

GALAXY [Navy/Blue/Aqua Colorway]

Available as PAPER or PDF.

67″ x 75″

We consider this pattern to be the newer and bigger sister pattern to CATALINA STARS and I am so excited by its versatility in both pattern and color. This is one of those quilt patterns that I think you will come back to over and over…both because of its versatility and its ease. It is a wonderful stash buster, looks fabulous in any color family, can be easily adapted to be smaller or larger and has that wonderful sparkling feel of a scrappy cream background.

You could add the pinks and red pops of low volumes like on this mockup, or stick with all blues for a more seasonal blue winter feel.

HOMESTEAD [Recolored in Assorted Blues by @laceypoirier]

Full Size Pattern available as PAPER or PDF.
63″ x 75 1/4″

MINI HOMESTEAD Pattern [sample blocks shown above] available as PAPER or PDF.
21 1/2″ x 29 3/4″

I love house quilts. Pretty sure there has never been one that I have met and not liked. There is something just so classic and nostalgic about them that I get drawn in every time. The minute I saw this vintage quilt, I knew I wanted to make a version of our own. It is classic and yet completely unique as well, as I have never seen another house quilt like this one. Simplified piecing and no templates characterizes our version, of course!

For this blue one, Lacey was inspired to rework it out of a few of her favorite blues including some DENIM & DAISIES blues and her favorite eyelet cream blueberry background from FRUIT COCKTAIL. Isn’t it just so classy?

A few more progress shots…

VINTAGE SCRAPWORKS

Available as PAPER or PDF.

60 1/2″ x 70 1/2″

Inspired by a vintage antique find, this is our version of a “make do” patchwork, using favorite large florals, toweling stripes, linens and other favorite scraps of collected fabrics. We used actual toweling pieces for the [k/n] pieces and used up scraps in other parts. I recommend washing toweling prior to use to get a more used feel and even perhaps “tea staining” them if they are too white [more info on last page of pattern]. The sky is the limit on the style you can create with this quilt.

WINTER WALK IN THE WOODS

Available as PAPER or PDF.

69″ x 69″

This quilt was the star of the show for our winter Sew Along in our FACEBOOK GROUP a few years ago and it has become one of our all time favorite winter patterns. Once the Sew Along was done and we saw versions in red, hunter green, grey and many shades of blue, I knew it was time to transform it into a pattern. When the DENIM & DAISIES collection was introduced. I thought it was the perfect pairing for this beautiful quilt.

Royal Blue “CHAMBRAY” fabric available HERE.

73 1/2″ x 73 1/2″

PAPER ROSES [Recolored]

We actually recolored this in blues and creams for one of our Figs & Friends collaboration bundles. You can view that full blog post HERE.

Available as PAPER or PDF.

50 1/2″ x 62 1/2″

This is a block that I have seen over and over again as I have looked through my favorite Japanese quilting magazine. There is such wonderful movement and simplicity to it and it is so much more simple than it looks. The unique movement of these traditional blocks has always caught my eye & when I figured out they could be made from 1 pack of my favorite charms, I knew it would quickly become a pattern!

DAISY CHAIN [Recolored]

This is another Figs & Friends collaboration bundle mock-up. You can view the full blog post HERE.

Available as PAPER or PDF.

Some traditional patterns just can’t be improved upon..all we do is update them and add a little twist of our own. This is a traditional double irish chain with a special border that gives it that unique touch. Choose a whole array of scrappy fabrics or just 2 of your favorites and start strip piecing. Simple construction and yet stunning results!

Happy Sewing!
