Happy Summertime Sewing Friends!
I have been getting so many different questions about our fruit patterns lately so I thought it would be a good idea to do another pattern ROUND UP post.
I don’t know about you, but I love these posts myself since it gives me an opportunity to look through all the goodies and remember quilts and projects that I had long forgotten about or that had possibly gotten overlooked. Hopefully for you, it gives you a good place to come and take a look if you are new to Fig Tree or perhaps missed some of our classic pattern offerings.
For those of you long time Fig Tree fans, I am sure you know that I have a special love for fruit quilts, pumpkin quilts and flower quilts! Today, I thought we would talk about all things fruit.
So here goes…
……
The moment I finished designing my FRUIT COCKTAIL fabric collection, I started sketching fruit quilts. Every possible variation of every possible fruit that we didn’t already have in a recent pattern went into the mix. Apples, pears, cherries, blueberries, oranges and lemons all made the final cut and became quilts for this summertime compilation of fruit goodness. Five of the patterns are created to be interchangeable to mix and match into true fruit salad quilts. In addition, I have added a few interchangeable leaf options as well as small flower filler blocks if you decide to mix and match your fruit patterns.
……
Creating a quilt with not much more than a single charm pack has become a personal quilt challenge for me several times a year, often when we release a new Little Box of Figs project. This time, all I could see was a tower of fruit a-la Carmen Miranda and the infamous fruit hat! This is a fun and simple wall hanging or table topper that took us a single day to complete…I hope you enjoy it as much as we have!
……
The moment we created our STRAWBERRIES & RHUBARB fabric collection, I knew it was time that we designed a strawberry quilt to accompany it. It had to be simple to piece and unique, and I was up for the challenge. I’m so pleased with the movement and design pop!
……
If you are a berry fan, then this is for you! This pattern is the perfect excuse to play with your favorite summer feeling charm pack! Simple construction & fun [optional] prairie points finish off this charming seasonal runner. One of the best things about this quilt is how using the “SEW & FLIP” method makes shapes such as berries and leaves so simple. A perfect weekend project that will bring you months of berry joy & loveliness to your kitchen or table. You can even change it up and make them blackberries or blueberries if you are feeling adventurous!
……
Minis are my absolute favorite thing to do. In between all the larger quilts that I am working on, there is just something wonderful about starting and finishing a mini quilt in an afternoon. It is a perfect way to use up scraps or a Layer Cake or mix and match your favorite new collection with a little bit of goodies from your stash. This Mini Canned Pears is possibly the most adorable little quilt we have ever made. It goes together perfectly using our “SEW & FLIP” method that avoids using any actual triangles or bias! I am in love with that checkerboard border alone! Perfect for the kitchen or anywhere to celebrate summer, this little mini is too cute to pass up!
……
We all know that there is just something about cherries on a quilt…well, something irresistible! Maybe it’s because it makes most of us feel like summer, or because it’s such a nostalgic, retro feeling image, but if you put a cherry on it, it will definitely make you smile! These cherry blocks are simple and straightforward and look wonderful in any combination of reds, greens and a brown! Happy cherry picking!
……
This mini pattern is the perfect project for any retro kitchen, studio, porch or pretty much anywhere! Simple piecing makes these (4) blocks almost make themselves! It goes together perfectly using our “SEW & FLIP” method that avoids using any actual triangles or bias!
……
The booklet contains 5 fabulous patterns: Slices [featured here], Ribbons, Popsicles, Jello-Squares and Retro. Each is based on a grouping of “sherbet” solids and a grouping of low volume/ cream prints for the backgrounds. Each has its own unique feel and flavor but they all coordinate and go together as a wonderful group. They all just scream summer happiness!
This year we wanted to celebrate some quintessential summer sewing and work on the SLICE quilt so we have some special things up our sleeve for this project…
……
The main part of the book begins with one of my all-time favorite Fig Tree Samplers, the STRAWBERRY GARDEN SAMPLER, and then we add in some amazing companion projects featuring many of the quilts from the sampler itself. We have lap quilts, pillows, table runners, table toppers and more…oh my!
All of the projects in the book are based on the delicious JELLY & JAM fabric color scheme and can be done scrappy and in so many different color combos as well.
……
The moment the JELLY & JAM collection started to come together in my head and I saw the first set of swatches, I knew I wanted to create something with chintz dishes and mason jars. This was one of those designs that just came together so easily straight from my head to the page, and it was so hard to wait to share it with you for this long. I this is not technically a fruit quilt.. but it does have some fruit and it pairs SO WELL with the fruit ones!
Following in the footsteps of our wildly popular Fairytale Pumpkins, this pattern is 3 quilts in 1! Available in a lap size row by row sampler, a table runner and a mini table topper, Coventry is your own quilted version of a British countryside cottage armoire… or at least the one in my head!
……
We aren’t done yet! We have SO MANY fruit accessories too… enamel pins, zipper pulls, stickers and little notebooks to keep your quilty project notes straight. I told you I might have a fruit problem…
ZIPPER PULLS
We are obsessed with these little zipper pulls lately and are adding them to all the things! They are pretty much cuteness overload if you ask any of our Fig Tree ladies. These are the PERFECT size in my opinion… not too big and not too tiny. Each one measures app. 1″- ¼” and is a part of our fruit collection.
Available as a SET or Individually: PEAR ORCHARD, CHERRIES JUBILEE, BLUEBERRY BRANCH, or TART LEMONS.
ENAMEL PINS
Each pin is directly inspired by my long time infatuation with vintage canning and crate labels. There is something about the fruits pictured on old fruit canning labels that just speaks to me… the colors, the feel, the composition. I know that they were just meant as a way of identifying and selling crates and cans of fruit, but they are like little tiny works of art in my opinion. They are so beautiful!
Won’t you join us in our enamel pin addiction?
Adorn yourself, your bags, your bulletin boards and a hundred other places with these adorable vintage inspired enamel pins! Each pin is app 1 ½” in size and comes with a clasp backing that can be used as a pin or removed and it can be used as a tack/bulletin board pin as well.
Available as a SET or Individually: PEAR ORCHARD, RETRO CHERRIES, BLUEBERRY BRANCH, or TART LEMONS.
NOTEBOOKS: SET OF THREE
These little notebooks are my favorite excuse to take notes, do quilty math on the go and make lists… lots and lots of “brain dump” lists! Each set of notebooks has one of each of the 3 shown. One is plain, one has graph paper and one is lined.
Available as a SET OF THREE.
DECALS: SET OF FOUR
Perfect to add to your machine, a ruler, a mat, on folders, storage containers… oh my goodness, pretty much anywhere! They add the perfect vintage summer touch to anything!
Each sticker measures app. 2″ and is printed on clear vinyl.
Available as a SET OF FOUR.
LIMITED TIME ONLY: SUMMER FRUIT EXTRAVAGANZA KIT
This full set of fruit goodness is the best FRUIT GOODY collection we have ever put together. Start off with my favorite glass “jelly jars” and then add in a dozen accessories to use together or separate, summer is definitely the time for decorating with fruit! You will find fruit canning supplies, fruit enamel pins, fruit stickers, colored twine string and of course fabric!
What will you do with your collection?
Cook up some of your favorite jam and use many of these goodies to can them up and decorate them for display or better yet, summer gift giving!
