From the Vault: Fresh Laundry + Figs & Shirtings

Happy Thursday and welcome to another edition of From the Vault! In this blog series, I’m digging deep into my vault of patterns to find oldies but goodies to update with more recent fabric collections of mine.

Today, I’m bringing out Fresh Laundry. I love the vintage look of this quilt, especially when sewn up in soft colors. The original version was made with Fig & Plum, an early collection of mine that featured a softer color palette of dusty mauve, persimmon, stone, pear, and pond.

(The pattern also featured a second colorway using just the pond, pear, and cream prints for a soft and sweet wintry version.)

Later, we did a two-color red and white version for the Red & White Charity Quilt Show.

And a few years ago, Fresh Laundry was the featured pattern for my annual Vintage Halloween limited edition kit.

OK, so I guess I keep coming back to this pattern! Clearly it is a classic that stands the test of time. But I figured it was due for another refresh—only this time, in a brighter and more colorful palette, using Figs & Shirtings!

What a difference the color palette makes, right? Figs & Shirtings has cheerful vintage colors and prints that really shine in this updated version of Fresh Laundry.

I can just imagine this quilt hanging on a clothesline in the sun!

As you know, I love seasonal quilts as much as scrappy colorful quilts…and since I already knew that Fresh Laundry looks great as a Figgy Halloween quilt, I had to see how it would look as a Figgy patriotic quilt too!

I pulled out the red and blue prints from Catalina for this cheerful patriotic version. Catalina has a great range of blues, from deep royal to soft seaglass, and I wanted to put them all together for this one.

I can’t decide which version I love more…so I will probably have to make both!

Giving Fresh Laundry these new colorways reminds me just how versatile this pattern is. I hope you’re inspired to make your own version of this classic pattern!

You can find the PDF version of Fresh Laundry HERE and the paper version HERE.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! I’ll be back next time with a new take on another pattern from the Fig Tree vault.
