HONEYBUN PUMPKINS SEW ALONG: WEEK #1

Hello Facebook Group Friends and anyone else who might have stumbled upon this fun new SEW ALONG we are going to be doing for the next few weeks. If you have folllowed along on the Fig Tree journey at all, you know how much I love my pumpkins in any form. So when we found ourselves with a giant box of extra PUMPKINS & BLOSSOMS honeybuns, you know pumpkins had to be involved!

Today we introduce Week #1, as well as the MATERIALS LIST and some lovely photos of the first set of blocks.

The Story

This all started as so many of our projects do… I had some extra fabric and some space in our program schedule and a little bit of brain space to think. My friend Susan and I chatted and brainstormed, talked a bit more, did some quilty math and this fun little project was born… I love my quilty friends so much, especially when together we come up with some fun new things for you! Susan took the lead on this one and I played the assist role and this is what we came up with…

Each week we will be focusing on a different size of pumpkin as well as the outer border and in 4 weeks we will be done! Final size of the project is a perfect lap throw at 48 ½” x 56 ½”.

MATERIALS LIST

  • (1) Honeybun Pumpkins & Blossoms
  • ⅛ yd. extra green print
  • 2 ½ yds. background [black chambray used/ivory solid shown as an alternative too]
  • ¾ yd. orange floral border
  • ½ yd. orange print binding
  • 3 ¼ yd. backing

Susan used black chambray as her background but scroll down to the end of the post to see an alternate ivory background. If you do not have access to a PUMPKINS & BLOSSOMS honeybun, no worries. Any good set of scrap fabrics or ⅛ or ¼ yds. in oranges, greens, creams, greys and charcoals would work too.

WEEK #1 ASSIGNMENT

There will be 4 different shapes of pumpkins in this SEW ALONG and this week we will be doing the LARGE PUMPKINS in 2 different colors.

CLICK THE IMAGE ABOVE to download the PDF of the pattern.

and next up are the green ones of the same size turned in the other direction for more visual interest…

These are all so very yummy and so very quick to make!

For an alternate look, this is the same project on an IVORY SOLID BACKGROUND…

You might also try this version with a darker scallop border?

All sewing and photos by the lovely Susan Vaughan.

Happy Pumpkin Sewing this week and see you next week for some more. Joanna

I’m all signed up and my fabric ordered from various places, because I think this sewalong wiped everyone out of these fabrics! I’m excited to start. Also, I looked on your website for a pattern for those darling acorn/pine cone accessories, one is tan/white the other is a tan floral/coral with green petals and a leather strap on top. I’d love to make some!

So glad you are sewing along with us! It does seem like people are enjoying their pumpkins… as they should LOL because pumpkins are the best.
The pinecones, unforunately, are a part of an annual BOM program that we just started that is completely full.
