Our LADYBUGS patterns – both a full quilt and a mini version – were originally designed to coordinate with my CATALINA fabric collection back in April of 2020.

We thought it was time to re-showcase these cuties and let you know what one of our Fig Tree ladies has been up to with the MINI pattern and our latest fabric collection SUMMER’S END…come check it out!

MINI LADYBUG

Minis are my absolute favorite thing to do. In between all the larger quilts that I am working on, there is just something wonderful about starting and finishing a mini quilt in an afternoon. It is a perfect way to use up scraps or a Layer Cake or mix and match your favorite new collection with a little bit of goodies from your stash.

Who can resist these cute little ladybugs on the wall or table? Perfect for a little summer project or all year around if you love ladybugs as much as we do. Fun project with quick results.

LACEY’S MINI LADYBUGS – WITH A TWIST

Lacey [@laceypoirier] decided to use a few prints from the SUMMER’S END collection and remake the MINI LADYBUGS pattern – but with a twist. Rather than piecing the small antennae, she decided to replace the section with a plain rectangle unit and instead embroider them using a chain stitch and black thread for a bit of whimsy!

If you’d like to do the same – in your pattern, you can eliminate cutting for [c] and [g]. In addition, you will only need to cut (8) [h] units. From your background, cut (4) 1 3/8″ x 5″ – this will be your plain rectangle unit replacing the antenna section for embroidery.

  • (4) 1/8 yds. red prints [Persimmon Geranium Leaves, Persimmon Daisies, Persimmon Garden Trellis, Persimmon Forget Me Not]
  • 1/8 yd. black dot or black solid [Black EYELET]
• Leaves & Stems:
  • 1/4 yd. green small print or dot [Grass Meadow]
• Background:
  • 1/2 yd. ivory solid [Ivory EYELET]
• Border:
  • 1/4 yd. cream print [Persimmon Dandelion Wisps]
