LITTLE BOX OF FIGS 2024: BOX #3 REVEAL POMEGRANATE & PINE

Welcome to the third box of your 2024-2025 subscription! We are moving right along with these boxes this year and I believe that this red and green classic is going to be another favorite of mine! I really appreciate a simple block and a two-color project during this time of the year, and I hope you join me in making yours in time for this holiday season!

If you’d like more information on our LITTLE BOX OF FIGS subscription, please be sure to read all the way to the bottom for some answers to FAQs.

BOX REVEAL: THE CHRISTMAS BOX

……

MAIN PROJECT: POMEGRANATE & PINE

Our newest box project, POMEGRANATE & PINE, is based on a few lovely EYELET prints and is a classic holiday throw that I hope you will bring out annually for many years to come. At 44 ½ x 50 ½ it is the perfect size for a simple holiday throw to put on the end of your bed, your couch or arm chair. I guarantee it will bring instant holiday cheer to any room!

In case you aren’t part of our subscription, you can always grab the paper pattern in our shop HERE or the PDF HERE.

……

LAYOUT OPTIONS

The IVORY HOLLY EYELET print is for our block backgrounds and the OFF WHITE SOLID for the background. You have enough green in your box to add in a few extra blocks if you want or keep it all red like on the cover [first photo below]. We couldn’t help but mock up a few variations!

So many different options really!

Depending on how many green [or other color] blocks you might want to add in, you will need to do a bit of quilty math to reduce your red blocks and add in a few green ones in their place. -OR- If quilty math is not your thing… make the same amount of red blocks as called for in the pattern and use the extra blocks that you sub out with the green ones into a coordinating pillow!

A FEW NOTES ABOUT ADDING IN ANOTHER COLOR BLOCK

The first two alternate version show (6) green blocks added, in two different layout options. I recommend piecing these individually from squares instead of wasting a bunch of fabric making strip sets. To make (6) individual green blocks:

  • You will need (2) strips of green fabric/ (30) green squares, cut at the size called for in the pattern.
  • You will need (1) strip of cream print plus some leftovers or any variety of scrappy cream backgrounds from your stash. You will be cutting (24) cream squares.
  • This means you will need to cut a few less red/cream sections. You will cut (12) less STRIP SET A sections and (6) less STRIP SET B sections.
  • Follow step 3 on page 3 of the pattern to make (6) individual green nine patch blocks.

The third alternate version shows (8) green blocks added in in pairs throughout the quilt.

  • You will need (3) strips of green fabric/ (45) green squares, cut at the size called for in the pattern.
  • You will need (2) strip of cream print or any variety of scrappy cream backgrounds from your stash. You will be cutting (32) cream squares.
  • This means you will need to cut a few less red/cream sections. You will cut (16) less STRIP SET A sections and (8) less STRIP SET B sections.
  • Follow step 3 on page 3 of the pattern to make (8) individual green nine patch blocks.

Another idea would be to make some of your backgrounds scrappy to add in a bit of that infamous “Fig Tree background sparkle” that I love to throw in whenever I can.

If you check back with us after the holidays, we will work this pattern up in a few other color combinations including red, white and blue as well as summer scrappy!

LITTLE PROJECT: CHRISTMAS MUSHROOM PINCUSHION

A perfect use for some of those project scraps. Pair it with a favorite darker background from your stash for a charming pincushion project or pocket warmers for gift giving! We used two different favorite backgrounds with box fabrics scraps. The one on the left is a MOCHI LINEN from MODA called “putty” and the right one is my favorite “black” cross weave background. The pincushions are filled with crushed walnut hulls as always and bound.

PRODUCTION HINT: I made the pincushions “squishy” rather than super filled for two reasons. One- I wanted a flatter, soft “lived in” feel for these. Two- I knew it would be much easier to finish these bound on the outside with “moveable” filling that I could scoot out of the way of my machine needle when adding the binding after the pincushion was already filled up.

OTHER GOODIES INCLUDED:

  • Retro “Tidy Sew Dusting Kit” Tin
  • Exclusive Gold Handles Fig Tree Inscribed Scissors
  • Figgy Wool Pincushion with Quilt Block on Top
  • Christmas Sticker Labels for gift giving
  • Red & White Quilt Block Enamel Needle Minder

HAPPY SEWING!

LITTLE BOX OF FIGS SUBSCRIPTION INFO

This is the THIRD box in our 2024-2025 subscription. This year’s program is currently FULL. We usually offer sign-ups for the following year in late Fall [so the 2025-2026 signups have also come and gone, but you can always email me to be added to the waitlist. If/when extra spots open up, we pull from this list!].

The best way to stay “in the know” on our LITTLE BOX offerings is to sign up for our newsletter, which you can do HERE.

The program has 4 quarterly boxes [April, July, October, January]. Each box is a thematic ensemble of goodies and we try to include a new and different variety of products each and every time. So that means:

  • April = Summer
  • July = Autumnal/Halloween
  • October = Christmas
  • January = Spring

Each quarter, box price differs between the range provided in your sign-up and depends on the items we include. Each quarter has a full main project, a small extra project, plus gifts and notions.

We do try to have a few *extra* LITTLE BOXES available for purchase, as a way of making the boxes available to more people who did not have a chance to get in on the annual subscription sign-up. These are a “first come, first serve” and usually go pretty fast, selling out in a matter of hours.

Some of the items in the box are exclusives and curated specifically for subscribers, but we do always offer the main project as a pattern in the shop so that anyone can join us in making it.

I hope this helps answer a few of your questions on our LITTLE BOX OF FIGS subscription!

Loved the subscription box this month, although I have loved all of them this year. Especially the tea cups.
