Introducing GATHERING BASKETS… my third quilt in the BUTTERNUT & SAGE fabric coordinating pattern collection.
This was a block I first created for my AUTUMN FROLIC BLOCK OF THE MONTH program several years ago and I loved it from the moment the design popped into my head. The moment I created it with the leaf, I knew I wanted to add in at least one more autumnal motif and create it as a seasonal project. It was a perfect match for this collection… don’t you think?

The blocks are a really great way to showcase some of your favorite autumnal prints, one in each basket. The fact that it works with a LAYER CAKE is just the icing on the cake for me! Of course, you can use yardage or your stash of your favorite fall feeling fabrics for an equally wonderful result!

It is important to note that this pattern uses a large section of the LAYER CAKE so you really need to follow the provided cutting diagrams in the pattern to ensure you are able to cut all of your needed pieces. Given that you need most of the Layer Cake and that washing would cause both shrinkage and shredding, I do not recommend starching precuts such as the LAYER CAKE even if you are a regular starcher!

The pattern breaks up into (12) of two kinds of blocks – either the leaf or acorn motif – and each is made with a single LAYER CAKE square. Making block piles as you cut your LAYER CAKE squares and then adding in the needed background pieces for each block will make the assembly simple and organized.

The GATHERING BASKETS Quilt Pattern is available via PAPER or DOWNLOADABLE PDF.
