PATTERN SHOWCASE: PINWHEEL PARADE

It’s that time… time to showcase and talk about each new ROSIE pattern that I am releasing alongside the collection. Today’s turn is PINWHEEL PARADE.

There are so many different sizes and variations for this quilt and the hardest decision you will have to make is which one to make first! Choose your favorite precuts – charm pack, layer cake or fat quarters- and get to cutting! There is something about these twirling blocks that just feels like a summertime parade and I, for one, can’t wait to make a few more for some summertime gifting!

CHARM PACK VERSION

For this version you are working with a 6″ block and blocks that all go in one direction for a bit more uniformity and a slightly more clean look as a result. This one is finished off with a small blue floral border to add a bit more activity to the final finish.

Charm Pack Version – 44 1/2″ x 52″

  • BLOCKS: (2) charm packs
  • BACKGROUND: 1 1/4 yd. ivory -or- ivory EYELET
  • SASHING: 3/4 yd. light cream print

  • OUTER BORDER: ⅝ yd. blue floral
  • BACKING: 3 yds. ivory firework print

LAYER CAKE VERSION

Second up is the LAYER CAKE version shown here. For this version you are working with a 9″ block and blocks that alternate direction for a lot of fun movement! The sashing is soft and falls into the background so the blocks can really shine. It is finished with a vibrant red border for a perfect summertime vibe!

Layer Cake Version – 59 1/2″ x 70 1/2″

  • BLOCKS: (1) Layer Cake
  • BACKGROUND: 1 3/4 yd. ivory -or- ivory EYELET
  • SASHING: 1 yd. light cream print
  • POSTS 1/4 yd. light cream w/ red print
  • OUTER BORDER: ⅞ yd. red gingham floral
  • BACKING: 3 3/4 yds. floral print
  • BINDING: ⅝ yd. red gingham print

……

FAT QUARTER VERSION

For this final fat quarter version, I chose (16) fat quarters in a mix of large floral prints and small geometric prints like the firework print in the ROSIE collection to give your eye a lot of different scaled prints to look at. I also alternated the blocks on this one and made sure that many of the colors of the collection were well represented. I did opt out of using the pink becuase it was just a bit too soft for these large scale blocks in my personal opinion.

Fat Quarter Version – 66 1/2″ x 66 1/2″

  • BLOCKS: (16) fat quarters
  • BACKGROUND: 1 1/2 yd. ivory -or- ivory EYELET
  • SASHING: 1 1/4 yd. light cream print and
  • POSTS 1/4 yd. small red print
  • OUTER BORDER: 1 1/4 yd. small blue floral
  • BACKING: 4 ⅛ yds. floral print
  • BINDING: ⅝ yd. coral EYELET print

Hope you enjoy working on a PINWHEEL PARADE project in your future!

Happy Sewing,
