STRAWBERRY TEACUPS

You know when a fabric just speaks to you??

Well that is for sure what happened here when we saw the strawberry fabric from the Ruby Star Society collection “STRAWBERRY” by Kimberly Kight.

The strawberry fabric spoke to us and I am sure you can see why! Special thank you to one of our Fig Tree Ladies, Megan, who put this all together for us!

We had KITS in the shop this past week and they sold QUICK! We couldn’t make any more since the whole thing was based on those strawberries!

Feel free to source your own favorite fabrics using the back of the TEA FOR TWO quilt pattern for full fabric requirements – and then simply follow along with our color guide below to make a similar feeling Summer-ready quilt!

If you want to look for the same fabrics in our kit… all you would for sure need is the STRAWBERRY FABRIC from Ruby Star, and then we used a mix of ROSIE and a few other pinks thrown in for the rest. You will need 1/3- 3/8 yd of both the “dense” strawberry and the “loose” strawberry on cream so that you have enough for both the tea cups and the border. See below for more specific info on exactly how we used the kit.

We made it on a Bella OFF WHITE background so that the Strawberries would really stand out.

STRAWBERRY TEACUPS [RECOLORED]

For Megan’s quilt, using the NOW SOLD OUT KIT, here’s how we decided to use the fabrics for a balanced look…

• STRAWBERRY PRINTS FROM KIMBERLY KIGHT
  • Note that there are TWO similar strawberry prints – one is more “dense” and features the berries in more uniform rows. The other is more spaced out and the berries “dance” around the light background.
  • Use the more “dense” strawberry fabric as the main print in every other teacup. There are (30) teacups in total, so (15) of your [A] cut pieces will be from this print.
  • Use the “dancing” strawberry fabric as your outer border. This will really tie it all together!
• COORDINATING PRINTS FROM ROSIE, PORTOFINO, and other MODA DESIGNERS
  • Use the reds, pinks, and greens as the teacup handle and saucer units [B, C, and D in the pattern] for all (30) teacups.
  • We did not use any of the strawberry print in these units. As they are small, we wanted to avoid breaking up the pattern within the fabric too much. Not to mention the mix and match fun it gives us. 🙂
  • We matched the prints used for the handle and saucer to each teacup. For instance, a berry teacup with a matching red gingham handle and saucer, a green teacup with a matching pink handle and saucer, and so on. See photos for a closer look.
• OFF WHITE BELLA SOLID
  • This crisp ivory is a great background for the quilt.
• EYELET [IVORY WITH RED]
  • Use this for the horizontal sashing between the tea cup rows. It add just the right amount of sparkle, don’t you think?

This quilt looks great in such a wide variety of prints and colors!

HOT COCOA MUG [BLOCK ALTERNATIVE]

This quilt has become surprisingly versatile!

For the 2024 holiday season, we created a “hot cocoa” version of the quilt. Be sure to check out THIS BLOG POST for all the details to turn these dainty tea cups into hot cocoa mugs instead! To do that we removed the saucer and added some hot cocoa foam to the top!

It’s a great way to showcase your favorite Christmas motifs and prints.
