SWEET CARROTS: A PATTERN REMIX

My LE RADISH pattern has been around for awhile now and if you know me, you know I love making veggies, fruits, and critters of all kinds! Being able to repurpose the LE RADISH pattern into CARROTS gets a big “chef’s kiss” from me! …And it comes just in time for Spring!

The BEST part about this remix, is that the only instructions that differ is the initial CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS for the [new] “carrot bottom” and first portion of STEP 1 in the pattern.

Instead of cutting the RADISH TOP fabric (red or taupe) and RADISH BOTTOM fabric (cream), simply choose ONE of your favorite orange prints, and instead of following the displayed CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS, cut one rectangle 9.5” x 10” for the SMALL carrot, or one rectangle 10.5” x 10” for the LARGE carrot. YES – 2 sizes! Mix them up and create a totally unique bushel of your own “homegrown” carrots!

For STEP 1, it will not be necessary to sew the top/bottom pieces together and you will not have to worry about lining up the “dashed lines” on the template. Again, this is because you are only using one fabric, not two. Just trace your template onto the wrong side of your fabric after folding your rectangle as the pattern indicates.

That covers CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS and STEP ONE in the pattern. The rest of the pattern instructions will stay as is. In our sample, we used three of the same PLAIN leaves for each carrot and used florist wire to give them some dimension. The pattern comes with your choice of three leaf shapes: SMALL, LARGE, and PLAIN. Again, mix and match to make them all your own!

We know it wouldn’t be a proper bushel of carrots without some string or wire! We used our fun TAPE MEASURE TWILL TAPE and it adds just the right amount of extra cuteness, don’t you think?!

These would be a great addition to celebrate the Spring season in your home (and sewing room)! Just grab a few of your favorite orange and green print fabrics. They stitch up fairly quickly and, in no time at all, you’ll create your own garden – no green thumb needed! 😉
