VINTAGE FRIENDSHIP STARS SEW ALONG: WEEK TWO

Welcome to Week #2 of our VINTAGE FRIENDSHIP STARS SEW ALONG! I am so glad to see that so many of you are joining us and that you are as delighted by this vintage quilt as we were! Isn’t it just so much fun to work on and simple to construct at the same time?

In case this is your first time here on the blog, be sure to check our previous (3) posts for lots of tips and guidance on getting started with this project. Feel free to join in any time!

Most of the work of this quilt is picking out a good grouping of colors and low volumes to recreate the feel of the vintage quilt we fell in love with.

SCHEDULE

This week, we are focusing on making more scrappy stars – 15 more to be exact. It might seem like a lot, but these sew up so quickly and are quite addicting so just go slow, work on a few a day and you will be done in no time at all!

……

TIPS & HINTS

I can’t stress this enough – but go scrappy, and I mean actually scrappy! Who cares what comes next to what…just start sewing those units and putting some together every once in a while.

I know that many of us like to do “controlled scrappy” and make sure that we have certain pieces and colors next to each other. But honestly, the beauty of this project is that they ARE super scrappy. Sometimes the same fabric will end up next to the same one and that actually mimics the charm of the original quilt.

In many instances “controlled scrappy” does indeed make sense but in this case… I do really think that letting it be actually scrappy, will give us the vintage “make do” vibe of this fabulous project.

I am joining in with you all [I am so inspired by everyone’s post in the group] and let’s see if I can keep on track with you all… 🙂

Here are my (6) “full color” blocks from Week #1!

And below that are photos of my “scrappy block assignment” for last week. I call that a win for me given all the deadlines I have this week and next week. Slowly starting on my next set for this week and we will see how far I can get!

BUNDLES IN THE SHOP

Our color bundles have sold out, but we are continuing to replenish low volume bundles since they are so versatile and can be used for pretty much any fabric combination! Check what’s available IN THE SHOP.

FACEBOOK GROUP – MEMBER POSTS

If you haven’t already, be sure to join our FACEBOOK GROUP where so many of our members are sharing their progress! One of my favorite things to do when we are working on a large SEW ALONG such as this one, is to scroll through the group feed to see everyone’s progress… it is SO inspiring!

So far almost 500 of you are joining us for this SEW ALONG and it really is never too late with a straight forward project like this one.

As someone else suggested, it is even a great “leader and ender” project for those of you who like to keep 1-2 of those moving along at any given time.

Here are a few recent posts…

Happy Sewing,

-Joanna

Blue and white quilts are my favorite and I really like this scrappy pattern. I started cutting mine out and hope to start working on the blocks soon!
