CHRISTMAS APPLE ORCHARD QUILT

Available in both PAPER and PDF.

Sometimes inspiration strikes at the most unique times & places and the idea just will not go away. That was certainly the case with this ORCHARD pattern inspired by my favorite bedroom rug. I think I worked on 10 variations before I loved the result. Of course once I did, the color combos started flooding my brain! Feel free to choose a color combination that speaks to you, like Lacey [@laceypoirier] did with this Christmas version!

HOLLY TREE SKIRT

Susan [@thefeltedpear] has a few awesome tips for finishing – both quilting and binding – on the HOLLY TREE SKIRT.

FOR QUILTING:

  • If you are quilting it on your domestic machine, baste like normal and quilt away! You won’t have any problems.
  • If you use a long arm, chat with your longarmer and ask if they have any special way they would like you to prepare your project. They may ask you to sew extra corners on your quilt for ease of loading their machine.
  • Watch your orientation as you load your quilt and make sure you are orientating it just like the cover picture. (If you have a longarmer, help them out and mark the top).

FOR BINDING:

  • Bind the inner circle with bias binding, but you don’t need to use bias binding for the entire project. I just made my first “strip” bias and then did normal binding for the remainder of my strips.
  • Take the “corners” slow but treat them just like you would when you are attaching binding to a square/rectangular project. Since they are not 90 degree angles, they will look slightly different, but the technique is the same.
  • Try to avoid having binding joins in the corner.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS CROSS STITCH SAMPLER

Susan [@thefeltedpear] finished stitching up her sampler. She stitched on 40 count, 1 over 2, so it’s finishing at approximately 5 1/2″ x 6″.

Isn’t it just gorgeous?!

THANK YOU

WOW WOW… have we had a wonderful CHRISTMAS IN JULY month full of quilty goodness! Thank you to all that have participated in one way or another and a huge thank you to Susan Wilburn Vaughan [@thefeltedpear] and Lacey Poirier [@laceypoirier] for all of your amazing projects that kept us inspired and on task this month!

I especially want to thank Susan for her sampler cross stitch work that encouraged so many of you to jump on board with Fig Tree cross stitch! You all know that I am a cross stitch newbie but I am itching to do more and you all inspire me.

Even if the month is over, doesn’t mean that you have to stop working on your projects!

Keep on finishing your goodies and posting them. We ALL LOVE to see all that you are working on and I think it keeps us all motivated and working together!

Happy Sewing!

-Joanna
