WINTERTIME MAGIC ROW BY ROW SEW ALONG: SOME FAQs ANSWERED

Hello Sew Along Friends!

I just wanted to answer a few of the most commonly asked questions about our current WINTERTIME MAGIC ROW BY ROW SEW ALONG. I figure that if some of you are reaching out to me with these questions, others of you have them too. So here we go…

……

SHOULD WE PUT THE BLOCKS TOGETHER NOW?

Great question! No, definitely do not put the rows together yet. Each of the 3 quilt sizes might have some tweaks to it and you will also be adding some sashing pieces to help your blocks stand out in the final setting. Plus, you might change your mind along the way as you see more of the blocks each week!

……

HOW MUCH FABRIC WILL WE NEED FOR EACH VERSION?

LAP SIZE QUILT

Our WINTERTIME MAGIC STARTER KITS have the necessary amount for completing the lap size quilt. We are calling them “starter kits” because you may find yourself wanting to add in a few low volumes or print additions from your stash as you begin to see the quilt unfold.

If you are using your own fabrics, use our guide below:

……

TABLE TOPPER / WALL HANGING

For the colors, a fat quarter of each print you are using will be more than enough.

For background prints, it does completely depend on whether you are using just one background or several low volume prints for a bit of “sparkle”. I think 1 yard total will be more than enough in most situations.

  • CHECKERBOARD SASHING: 1/4 yd. of each of (2) prints
  • BORDER: 3/8 yd.
  • BACKING: 1 yd.
  • BINDING: 1/3 yd.

……

RUNNER

The RUNNER will require similar amounts of the colors as the lap quilt since your rows are the same length as the lap throw – but just less rows altogether. However, you will not need nearly as much background fabric for the RUNNER.

  • BACKGROUND: 1 1/4 yd.
  • CHECKERBOARD SASHING: 1/4 yd. of each of (2) prints
  • BORDER: 1/2 yd.
  • BACKING: 2 yds.
  • BINDING:1/3 yd.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT COLORS TO USE?

If you go to our FACEBOOK GROUP, you will see lots of choices that people are making. That is always the easiest way to see how something will look and to see what you like. If you are not a part of our group, I encourage you to join us. We are a very friendly, kind group and we love to foster our community with these SEW ALONGS.

For those of you who don’t really do FACEBOOK, I hear you! I don’t really do a Facebook Feed but I do go directly to our group and that is the only thing that comes up on my feed. So that is a win, win for me!

If you aren’t a fan of the “mystery” aspect, but still want to join us, grab the weekly patterns and wait a few weeks to see how the quilt unfolds before starting. We will ALWAYS be ready to cheer you on – whether you follow our schedule or your own.

……

WHERE ARE THE WEEKLY PATTERNS?

Each week, the pattern link will arrive in your email inbox if you registered. You can REGISTER HERE if you haven’t do so already. The registration is FREE – and is simply a nice way to get yourself on our sew along email list to be notified when the pattern is ready…and we might have a few perks and surprises up our sleeve exclusively for those who register…more on that below.

Once your email arrives, you will be given a link that takes you directly to the Fig Tree Shop to purchase your pattern and get started. Remember, there are 4 weekly patterns ($3 each), and the final assembly instructions will come in week 5 FREE – right here on the blog.

For those who are not registered, the pattern link will show up on FEATURED PAGE of our FIG TREE WEBSITE a few hours after our registered participants. So far, we only have the WEEK ONE: TWINKLE TREES PATTERN since it’s still only the first week. As the SEW ALONG continues, all the patterns will be there to purchase.

……

I REGISTERED, NOW WHAT?

So there is nothing magical about registering. It just lets us put you into the weekly emails so we can send all the info out to you each week and it can be right at your finger tips in your EMAIL INBOX.

  • We gather and send you all the info.
  • You get access to that week’s patterns earlier in the day on release day than those who haven’t registered.
  • You get some special offers and maybe even a coupon [although that will only be available to those that actually purchase the patterns and are sewing along each week].

The patterns are still available to everyone else and you can get them anytime on the featured page of our shop. CLICK HERE for that if you haven’t already grabbed your pattern.

……

THANK YOU FOR SEWING ALONG!

If you have any other questions that you think others might benefit from, ask them here below! And remember: it is never too late to join in on the fun… at least now while the patterns are still available!

Happy Sewing,

-Joanna
