WINTERTIME MAGIC ROW BY ROW SEW ALONG: WEEK ONE

It’s here…WEEK ONE in our WINTERTIME MAGIC ROW BY ROW SEW ALONG!

In case this is your first time hearing about our mystery quilt SEW ALONG, be sure you check out all the details in our INTRODUCTORY POST HERE, which includes how to obtain the pattern, full fabric requirements, scheduling details, and much more.

Also HERE is a post about how you might go about making some COLOR CHOICES if you’re still finalizing your fabric picks.

Today we are introducing our first block that will make our first ROW [or in the case of the lap throw] two ROWS for our final quilt.

WEEK ONE: TWINKLE TREES

This week, we will be working on our TREE blocks. These are small and sweet and fairly basic to make, and they are perfect in a combo of colors if you are working in a multi color palette. The pattern PDF will tell you how many you want to make depending on which size of project you are choosing to make: MINI, RUNNER or LAP THROW.

……

TIPS/HINTS/SUGGESTIONS

  • If you are unfamiliar with the SEW & FLIP METHOD of adding square pieces of fabric together and getting triangles without having to use bias or templates, its pretty simple and self-explanatory. Read through the basic steps in the pattern sheet for this week if you need a refresher and look at the detailed diagrams. Also HERE is a more detailed blog description which includes a video tutorial, as well.
  • We kept the trunk the same color as the tree in order to keep a more monotone tree feel. You can, of course, be more literal with your tree and add a neutral trunk.
  • As you can see, we used a variety of colors for our trees. Throughout this quilt you will see that we are working “outside of the box” in terms of colors and making each motif work for us to create our overall “sweater inspired” holiday project!

FIG TREE FRIENDS FACEBOOK GROUP

Be sure to join our FIG TREE QUILTS FRIENDS FACEBOOK GROUP to see how some of our friends are working their trees up… and I am sure more will add their lovelies later in the week as they work on their progress.

NOTE: All registered members received an early access email early this morning. This week’s pattern is now available for purchase for anyone else interested in our shop. You can still of course register anytime for future weekly emails and early access.

NEXT WEEK

Be sure to join us next Thursday for the new mystery block assignment. Next week will be a sweet and simple one right in line with the upcoming holiday :-)… and that is about as much hint as you all will get from me!

I thought I already registered for the sew along but I did not see an email and therefore missed the tree block and now the second one. I will admit I am not good at the computer and blogs / websites but I re- registered for the sew along but not sure if I can get the 1st and 2nd block now and still not understanding where I get the block when releasing. I apologize for this inconvenience but I love your quilts!
