AUTUMN CROSS QUILT

Every so often, I get to work on a sewing project just for me. Between all the crazy deadlines, it’s nice to be able to sit down and work on a simple quilt for a fast make to celebrate the season and share with family.

A few weeks ago, I curated a few bundles for the shop with an autumnal feeling [now SOLD OUT, but choose prints from your stash using these photos as your color guide] and created a super simple NINE PATCH patchwork quilt. CLICK HERE for that FREE blog tutorial.

I had some leftover fabric and another small pocket of time, so now I’ll introduce you to my latest autumn quilt finish…meet AUTUMN CROSS! Since I have 3 adult children, I had to figure out how to make those fabrics stretch into 3 simple quilts and this one is number 2!!

NEW: AUTUMN CROSS

For this version, I used my VINTAGE RED CROSS pattern and kept the cross blocks super scrappy in both prints and backgrounds. I added a soft brown EYELET sashing for contrast. This quilt was so much fun to make in this scrappy autumnal vibe and SO DIFFERENT from the original pattern [info at the end of the post for those of you who might want to make your own].

The exact EYELET fabric color I used is called SIENNA and is available HERE. It is a wonderful warm, soft brown and it is fabulous!

ORIGINAL: VINTAGE RED CROSS

If you guys have followed along on my quilty adventures over the years, then you know how much I love vintage quilts and how many of my patterns are inspired by my vintage quilt treasures or quilts that I have just glimpsed at flea markets or antique shops.

There is just something about them. I know I say that a lot but there really is almost a palpable feeling you get from certain quilts… at least there is for me.

So when I glimpsed this vintage cross with a super soft faded blue sashing, red crosses and tiny little prints in the backgrounds, this quilt was immediately born in my head.
