THE NINE-PATCH BLOCK

In our quilt along, we are working on Block #5 this week, our NINE-PATCH block, and for most of us this was a nice simple block after the Hexie!

Sophie and Susan looked around several YouTube videos before deciding on the Colonial Knot to represent our Nine Patch blocks for Week 5.

A cousin to the French knot, the stitch is made by twisting the thread over top of the needle in a figure 8 method.

Susan (a right-handed sewist) enjoyed doing this stitch greatly! She thought it was easy to keep the tension, the stitches looked round and like uniform buttons.

Sophie (a lefty) had a hard time wrapping her head around the figure 8 pattern of the stitch, and ultimately decided on changing mid-way through to French Knots. Both stitches look fabulous and you should feel free to use them interchangeably.

… as a leftie, Sophie switched to French Knots

We used 4 strands of floss to make our stitches and opted not to include the sashing squares in our sampler.  We might look for another small stitch to add as our corner squares so stay tuned!

… I love that Sophie does this with us every single week. Your sampler is fabulous!
