One of my favorite new Halloween patterns this year is our Halloween Harlequin pattern. A fabulous way to use a Layer Cake and work on a quilt that looks like it has templates… without actually having any!
Over the years I have been drawn to many quilts that were all made from small and complicated templates and so I just admired them from afar. Templates are just not for me. I think I am too impatient and like to see immediate progress.. strip piecing is much more my style :-). But once in awhile I have decided to figure out how to get that special shape without a template and this is one of those projects.
To see all of our HALLOWEEN projects, come on over HERE.
First we did it with a Halloween palette…
And then loved it so much that we decided to feature it our first quilt in our FIGS AND FRIENDS COLLABORATION PROGRAM. We worked the pattern up in a fabulous collection of creams, blues and oranges…
We also did another, scrappy more colorful version with an orange “crossweave” background for the alternate square instead of block right next to block. I called this one the RETRO ORANGE QUILT. This quilt mimicked a vintage piece that we fell in love with from the MODA archives at Market one year. We even added in some orange dots into some of the background to go for that totally vintage, scrappy look.
TEMPLATES
For those of you traditionalists out there who have purchased the pattern but would like to get the templates instead of using our measuring method, please email us and we will get the PDF of that out to you.
Hope you enjoy a little Harlequin… I would absolutely love to see other color schemes and fabric palettes you all have chosen for this pattern!
Happy sewing, Joanna
