If you’ve been following along on my MBH5 journey, you know I don’t prefer to piece my QST [hourglass] units as depicted in the Moda Pattern Sheet, as it creates bias along the edges. See my Group 1, Week 2 BLOG POST for specific instructions – and a handy diagram – on how I create my QST variations.
Eliminate cutting for [B] and [C]. Instead…
For a 6″ block, cut:
For a 12″ block, cut:
Cut the [B] and [C] squares at each diagonal, to end up with 4 pieces from each. Lay your units out as they would be in the final block to ensure you place your varying background prints [C] correctly. Sew together and trim, as needed, to the depicted size.
HINT: The formula for cutting for QSTs is 1-1/4″ larger than finished size. And if you want trimming up space, then even a tiny bit more than that would be recommended.
