NEW PATTERN: CANDY CANE LANE + BONUS EXTRAS

SPOILER ALERT! Our Little Box of Figs [Christmas Edition] has shipped out, and many of you have received already. Although we aren’t *quite* ready to reveal the entire box of goodies, we did want to go ahead and post about our main box project: CANDY CANE LANE!

…and be sure to read to the end for CANDY CANE LANE BONUS EXTRAS, which offers 2 bonus ways to use this fun pattern!

CANDY CANE LANE TABLE RUNNER

The moment I designed these whimsical red and green stripes for my FRUIT COCKTAIL collection, I knew there were going to be candy canes in my future. It was just meant to be!

Figuring out how to create the design that was pictured in my head turned out to be a bit more of a design challenge than I expected, and I am so pleased with how they turned out! I think it is the perfect little holiday pair and I do think that all it needs is some cocoa for dipping!

If you are in the current Little Box of Figs membership, or you were lucky enough to grab one of the box extras this time around, the pattern and fabrics to create the table runner are all nestled inside!

If not, don’t fret! As always, the main project in our Little Box always becomes a stand-alone paper/PDF pattern in our shop, to those who aren’t in the membership, but want to join in! We will be having a sew along in our FACEBOOK GROUP starting next week, which is why I wanted to get this info out to you today. We’d love to have you sew along with us!

Currently in the shop, we have:

*LIMITED* FABRIC KITS FOR CANDY CANE LANE

*LIMITED* FINISHING KITS FOR CANDY CANE LANE

If you click on any of the above links, and the page is blank, that – unfortunately – means that the product(s) have since SOLD OUT, but you can always feel free to work from your stash, too! Pick any favorite red and green striped fabric, add a red and a small ivory floral and you are good to go.

CANDY CANE LANE EXTRAS

As promised, we also have some BONUS alternate instructions to use the CANDY CANE LANE blocks to create a table topper and/or a set of placemats! Fun, right?!

**If you are purchasing fabrics based on our posted MATERIALS LIST in the pattern, you will have enough to do either one of these alternative projects. However, if you wish to do all 3 projects, you will need additional fabric.

TABLE TOPPER

For the TABLE TOPPER, you will need to create (4) candy cane blocks using the pattern.

The topper will finish at 24″ square.

Cutting Instructions for (4) blocks:

  • For [A-C], [F-K], [M-U], [W-Z], cut (4) total.
  • For [D], cut (8) total.
  • For [E], cut (12) total sashing strips.
  • For [V], cut (20) total.
  • ADD: (9) 1 1/2″ squares for cornerstones [red eyelet].
  • For T/B and L/R borders, cut (2) 2″ x 21 ½” and (2) 2″ x 24 ½” borders.
  • For binding, you’ll need 1/4 yard; cut (3) 2 1/4″ WOF strips.
  • For backing, you’ll need 7/8 yard.

Follow block piecing instructions on pages 3-5 of your pattern. When assembling, follow the table topper diagram at the bottom of page 6. Join your blocks in a 2×2 layout with the green stripe [E] sashing strips and cornerstones. Add the L/R borders, followed by the T/B borders. Quilt and bind as desired!

PLACEMATS

For the PLACEMATS, you will need to create (2) candy cane blocks for (2) table settings using the pattern. Of course, you can create as few or as many as you wish, but the following instructions are to create (2) total.

The placemats will each measure 11 ½” x 17″.

Cutting Instructions:

  • For [A-C], [F-K], [M-U], [W-Z], cut (2) total.
  • For [D], cut (4) total.
  • For [E], cut (4) sashing strips, as directed for the L/R side of each candy cane block.
    • You will also need to cut an additional [4] sashing pieces for the T/B of the block that each measure 1 ½” x 11 ½”.
  • For [V], cut (10) total.
  • ADD: (4) 3 1/4″ x 11 ½” rectangles for the L/R outer borders [small cream print].
  • For binding, you’ll need 1/4 yard*; cut (4) 2 1/4″ WOF strips.
*You’ll need the full 9″ of the 1/4 yard print to get all (4) cuts. If you are worried, I would purchase ⅜ yds instead.
  • For backing, you’ll need 3/4 yard.

Follow block piecing instructions on pages 3-5 of your pattern. When assembling, follow the placemat diagram at the bottom of page 6.

  • Join each block with the [E] sashing strips to the L/R.
  • Followed by the larger [E] sashing strips to the T/B.
  • Add the small cream print outer borders to the L/R. Quilt and bind as desired!

ENJOY

I love the quilting on your table runner. Could you share the name of the longarm machine pattern. Thank you

I lovingly refer to this as my “biscuit” quilting design go-to, but I believe the real name is Starlight.
