Hello BLOCKHEAD folks!

Welcome to the Fig Tree day on the BLOCKHEADS train!

You might have noticed that we are taking a bit of a BLOCKHEADS break this year.
After several years of working on our quilt diligently each week, we took a little hiatus this year and instead have been watching all of you work on your beautiful blocks each week!
So inspiring you all are!

But even though we are not working alongside you all weekly, TODAY IS STILL MY BLOCKHEADS DAY.
Introducing the BELLISSIMO STAR BLOCK!
It’s not my usual kind of block but the mix of components really makes it one that can be made in so many different ways.
So I thought it was a good add to the project this year.

On our end… we have worked it up in 3 totally different ways with 3 different collections.
My question for you is… which of the 3 variations is your favorite??

If you have not followed along with our BLOCKHEAD adventures in past years, you might want to and check it out on the Fig Tree Blog for tons of inspiration.

Hi Figgy Friends!

Our month long CHRISTMAS IN JULY event continues in our Facebook Group and on the BLOG too!

Wishing everyone a weekend filled with joy and celebration. I hope you get some time to enjoy your family & friends, good food and perhaps some time to sneak away and get a little sewing done. I know I will be doing some of that over here!

Hello Quilt Friends!

Today we are starting a month long event in our Facebook Group and over on the Fig Tree Blog… it’s time for CHRISTMAS IN JULY!

We will be sewing, crafting, and cross-stitching together. All the things!

Every day in the group, we will post a new inspiration, a new project, or progress and hints/tips on one of the things we are sewing together. We will also do a WEEKLY RECAP every Friday on the blog in case you aren’t on Facebook.

If you haven’t already gotten your supplies, come on over to the blog to see our RESOURCE GUIDE and shop your local quilt shop for all the Buon Natale or other Figgy Christmas goodies and join us!

When I say there will be something for everyone… I am not exaggerating. We will be working on quilt samplers, runners, pillows, aprons, Christmas crafts, cross stitch and everything in between.

A few blocks at a time, working on a new version of the MONARCH BUTTERFLY block sheet today. Got back from a family adventure a few days ago and caught some nasty bug during my travels. So now I am slowly working my way through things that don’t take a lot of brain power 🦋. These cream butterflies on green… they are such a simple sew and such a great scrap buster project… I keep making more! Right now… they are what is making me happy! #figtreequilts #figtreeandcompany

INTRODUCING MONARCH BUTTERFLIES…One of our most beloved blocks from our recent My Secret Garden Block of the Month program, the MONARCH BUTTERFLY block was a “shoe in” for one of my PATTERN SHEETS the moment I designed it. I just knew I had to share it with everyone outside the program!

A perfect scrap buster project for this summer, the MONARCH BUTTERFLY BLOCK is a simple and easy block because nothing has to match or line up with anything else! Create fabric duos for the wings and add in any neutrals for the body…these blocks are a joy to put together!

The moment she started making them, @laceypoirier just could not stop adding more blocks. True story. A few grew into quite a collection and before we knew it, she had enough for a quilt.

Set them with one fabric or use all of your favorite cream scraps to create a wonderful summertime project! Actually, I think I might join in and make one myself!

INFO: Once in a while I like to add a simple idea sheet to our line up without working up all the info and math for the full quilts. A BLOCK PATTERN SHEET is often the perfect solution. Come on over to the BLOG to see just a few of our favorite setting suggestions… table runners, toppers and quilts of various sizes!

Here are the 2 most common questions/concerns I’ve seen:

I LOVE THEM BUT AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO DOESN’T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE FOR…
Great question! Over the last few years, clappers have made a comeback in the sewing world and have been introduced to the quilt world by the beautiful work of people like Chris. A clapper is used to help set a seam. I use them while I am pressing, especially if I have a stubborn or bulky seam, and the moment I press it, while the fabric is still warm, I place the clapper on the seam and let it sit for a few seconds, effectively “setting the seam” flat. I love them and have several in several different sizes.

I LOVE THEM BUT THEY ARE PRICEY...
As a reminder, these beauties are completely handmade from the ground up and the wood itself is a bit spendy. I feel like buying a good tool is something that you will be happy about for a long time to come. It is an investment, just like power tools, in that they make your job easier and they are a joy to use. That is what these are for me. I call them “grown up tools” and they bring me joy every time I use them. Actually, all of Chris’s quilting tools bring me joy!

Need I say more?

They are perfectly matched in color to the colors in our upcoming ROSIE collection, gorgeous in their weave and totally functional for ALL THE THINGS.

I am just a little bit obsessed.
Our little mini collection includes 4 prints [including the vintage strawberry print], 3 waffle weaves and 3 solids with the checkerboard border. Each one is better than the next... seriously.
We will be making towels, aprons, table runners, bags... who knows what else with these next summer when they ship to stores!

Check with your LQS to see if they will carry these Figgy toweling.

It’s not often that I am speechless... honestly,

It’s not often that I am speechless... honestly, I am kind of a talker. But today is one of those days. Seriously. I cannot BELIEVE how amazing these came out... every single one of them a little masterpiece of wood and design.

I am not much for fads or having “the newest gadget”. But a beautifully created handmade tool...gets me every single time.

I simply cannot say enough good things about how beautiful these @modern_american_vintage quilting clappers are and how good they feel in my hand and how much I am enjoying using them!

This might sound funny... but I feel like these are “grown up” quilting tools and I adore them. Read ALL THE INFO about this special collaboration on the blog by following the link in my BIO.
