Pumpkins & Cream: Layer Cake Style

Our crazy popular ALL HALLOW’S EVE collection has started to “hit store shelves” as I like to say! Woohoo my friends! The pre-cuts have shipped and the yardage is following soon behind… we are hoping for the end of this week or early next for the full collection…

I would have never ever guessed that you guys would respond like you have to my vision of a soft, understated RETRO VINTAGE feeling Halloween but am so very very glad that you did. I would love to hear your favorite thing about it down in the comments below!

The Pumpkins & Cream pattern from this ALL HALLOW’S EVE collection is one of my all time favorite fall quilts and possibly my favorite from this collection as well [other than I love all of the other quilts a whole lot too… especially the sampler!]. I love the soft romantic feel of all of those oranges and creams together so much… if you know me, you know that it is totally “me”.

At the same time, the second we finished making it in this soft orange version, I started thinking of how equally lovely it would be in the whole ALL HALLOW’S EVE palette with the greys and blacks added back in.

And so this new version was born…

And here is the info on how to make it from ONE LAYER CAKE. One LAYER CAKE will account for all of the pumpkins, stems and posts. It will also account for the inner scrappy cream border. It will also account for a portion of the sawtooth border:

  • Follow the amounts of & types of pumpkins exactly as we have done in the photo above. This is because certain fabrics are repeated in the layer cake and those are the ones that need to be used to make certain pumpkins. All the pumpkins are made from the Layer Cake.

Also note the following notes:

  • The grey posts are GREY SWIRLY and GREY PUMPKIN SEEDS from the Layer Cake.
  • The stems are BLACK CIRCLE and GREY DITSY from from the Layer Cake.
  • The inner border is made from any of the cream layer cakes you want.

Needed from yardage:

  • The outer sawtooth will use a few extra layer cakes ORANGE DITSY, ORANGE CIRCLE and ORANGE HOUNDSTOOTH to create a scrappy border in this version. You can of course omit this if you prefer. [shown as orange dots here in the example] [yardage needed per pattern].
  • The small pumpkin blocks are WHITE ON WHITE [yardage needed per pattern].
  • The outer border is CREAM & ORANGE FLORAL [yardage needed per pattern].
  • The binding is BLACK CIRCLE.

Hope you enjoy making one or the other version of this fun PUMPKINS & CREAM quilt this summer to be ready in time for the fall!

I never liked the color orange until Fig Tree orange came around. I love this orange shade! I made a pumpkin quilt with it last fall, and left it on the wall all year!

I made the quilt last fall and it is at the quilter right now. It’s a shop sample for my LQS. Absolutely love it!

The orange and cream version just makes me sigh with happiness. However, I do like a little black. This will be a hard choice for me of which one to do.

I love your pumpkin and cream pattern and fabric. I have a question about the grey or black fabric used for the stems. For some reason I stay away from these colors, could you recommend something in your line beige or brown that I could use I would appreciate that. Thank you.

The taupe color from Scarlet and Sage would work perfectly!
