SEWCIALITES 3 w/ FAT QUARTER SHOP – BLOCK #13

Welcome, everyone! I am so glad you are here.

This is my third year participating in the Sewcialites Quilt Along with FAT QUARTER SHOP and this year’s block contribution is one of my all-time favorites. In fact, we loved it so much, we decided to offer a FREE SETTING for the 6″ block version.

FREE SETTING PATTERN

We have become huge fans of the DENIM JEANS BLUE EYELET from my ROSIE fabric collection as a background over here at Fig Tree. We used it first in a recolor of the MILK & BLOSSOMS quilt, and this felt like another great opportunity, giving off a COASTAL SAND DOLLARS vibe…what do you think?!

Quilt top finishes at 46 1/4″ x 54 1/2″.

SETTING INSTRUCTIONS

Make (20) 6″ BACK PORCH block from your SEWCIALITES directions.

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS LIST:

  • Cream print [posts]: 1/4 yd.
  • Blue eyelet background [posts, sashing, inner borders]: 1 1/2 yds.
  • Blue floral [outer borders]: 3/4 yd.

POSTS:

  • From cream print fabric:
    • Cut (4) 1 1/4″ strips.
  • From blue eyelet background fabric:
    • Cut (5) 1 1/4″ strips.

Make (2) Strip Set A. Press toward blue. Cut into (60) 2 3/4″ x 1 1/4″ sections.
Make (1) Strip Set B. Press toward blue. Cut into (30) 2 3/4″ x 1 1/4″ sections.

Using the sections cut above, make nine patch post blocks as shown. Press open.

Make (30) 2 3/4″ x 2 3/4″ nine patch blocks.

SASHING:

  • From blue eyelet background fabric:
    • Cut (9) 2 3/4″ strips. Cut (49) 2 3/4″ x 6 1/2″ sashing rectangles.
  • Alternate the Sewcialites BACK PORCH blocks with sashing, making (5) rows for (4) blocks each. Press toward the sashing each time.
  • Alternate the nine patch POST blocks with sashing, making (6) rows of (5) post blocks each. Press toward the sashing each time.
  • Join the block rows and post rows together, alternating them as shown in quilt mockup above, to make the quilt center. Start and end with a post row.

BORDERS:

  • From blue eyelet background fabric [inner border]:
    • Cut (5) 2 1/2″ strips. Piece for length. Cut (2) 2 1/2″ x 44″ L/R and (2) 2 1/2″ x 39 3/4″ T/B inner borders.
  • From blue floral fabric [outer border]:
    • Cut (6) 3 3/4″ strips. Piece for length. Cut (2) 3 3/4″ x 48″ L/R and (2) 3 3/4″ x 46 1/4″ T/B outer borders.

    It is a very hard decision as I love all fig tree fabrics. The sewsocialites 2 block that was made into a pin cushion is darling, just love it….however, the blue in this years block is just so stunning!
