Great news, Fig Friends! We have a brand new SEW ALONG coming SOON…
As is often the case during this time of the year, we start to get itchy for a new SEW ALONG project with you all as soon as the holidays wrap up. I think there is something about that “in between” time between Christmas and New Years and then the few weeks that follow, that just yields itself to wanting to start something new and fresh and fun… don’t you agree!?
This post officially serves as your announcement (SURPRISE!) and to answer some of your burning questions – including fabric requirements to help you get prepared in the coming weeks.

……
We are calling this SEW ALONG the WINTERTIME MAGIC ROW BY ROW SEW ALONG. As its name suggests, we will have rows of various festive blocks… they are a mystery for now but more info will be revealed week by week as work on one type of block each week. The motifs are meant to be interpreted by you depending on your color scheme and the vibe you want to create -OR- you can of course follow our suggestions and end with a quilt similar to what we will be making!
Do you want to go more classic holiday, or more year round… or perhaps a bit more toward Valentines Day? Trust me all of those are options once you start working on your weekly blocks. Our chosen color scheme can be pretty much in any of those directions so stay tuned and see what we come up with!
There will be hints and tips and color advice as we move throughout the sew along on mixing and matching your favorite blocks to make your row by row quilt unique and special to you!

……
Quilt inspiration really does come from anywhere, doesn’t it?
For me it often hits me from the most unexpected places and then I just can’t shake it~ I came upon this sweater from BODEN a few months ago and it was definitely love at first sight. Can you even believe it… I was prepared to wear hearts? For those of you who know me better, you know I am not much of a heart girl usually.
Unfortunately it was already sold out in my size. but I couldn’t forget about it.. so I decided that it would be the inspiration for our SEW ALONG and so here we are.
This is pretty much all we are going to know until we are all done and the quilt is complete! Once we get started a few of the motifs might feel familiar after you have seen these photos but a few will be a surprise and we will have some alternates too so you can mix and match.
I really think we are going to have a lot of fun together!

……
The pattern for each week’s block will be available weekly and it will be $3 for each of the 4 block weeks, for a $12 total for the full SEW ALONG.
Week 5 is our setting and assembly pattern and that will be a FREEBIE right here on the blog.
Sign-ups for the SEW ALONG patterns are available HERE!
Once you register/sign up, each week, be ready for the LINK to the weekly block pattern to arrive in your inbox by email, and maybe even a special offer or a coupon or two :-).
Special offers and freebies will only be available to those that register so come on over… registration is free and just puts you on the list of people who will be emailed weekly with all the info!
The patterns will be available as individual pattern sheets for a few weeks after the SEW ALONG so if you miss one, you will have a chance to catch up !
……
See the below graphic for fabric requirements. If your New Years Resolution is to avoid spending or to utilize more of your stash, this might be for you! I will be sharing more info on how to choose your fabrics if you are working from your stash but for now this is a good place to start thinking!

……
For those of you who would like to sew along with the same fabrics I will be using, we have KITS IN THE SHOP NOW –> CLICK HERE. This is the inspiration color scheme and I am so excited to see this quilt grow week by week in these gorgeous basics. Our fabrics are a mix of my Fig Tree EYELET basics, some of Robin’s THATCHED basics, some of Vanessa’s MAGIC DOT basics and a few other Figgy fabrics thrown in for good measure.

I hope to have Backing & Binding options available in the shop at a later date as we move through the SEW ALONG.
……
We’ve also given some thought to alternate colorways and I have to say that an all-blue winter scheme might be so lovely!
Joanna and Cheryl will be sewing up weekly blocks from the studio and sharing them on Instagram and in our Facebook Group. We will be doing the larger, LAP SIZE quilt alongside you all!
Susan @thefeltedpear will be sewing and sharing her block each week in the Facebook Group.
And a little birdie also told me that Lacey @LaceyPoirier might be doing an all pink and creams version as well and sharing in the group as well.
Maybe we can coax more of you to share your weekly progress with us every week for a whole lot of inspiration together!
So there you have it!
……
Be sure to follow along in the FIG TREE QUILTS FRIENDS FACEBOOK GROUP and right here on the blog each Thursday, beginning January 8th for info on the weekly assignments, hints/tips, and a few progress photos from our Fig Tree sew along participants.
……
Happy Sewing!
-Joanna

I CAN’T WAIT!! Speaking of cute heart sweaters, have you checked at Kiel James Patrick? I know you’re not a heart girly, but they have some gorgeous Valentine’s Fair Isle sweaters! I love their sweaters and jumpers! The Boden one is so gorgeous that I ran over to check if they have my size; alas, sold out, too! I’d prefer a Boden-sweater-inspired quilt, anyway. 😉

yes, I follow that account and love those sweaters too! I never pull the trigger on one because they are so seasonal but I love looking at them. Every single one of those would be a great quilt inspiration too!
