Welcome back to our final week, Week 4, of our Valentine’s Day 2025 MYSTERY SEW ALONG! And the best part? It’s no mystery anymore! Many of you already figured it out… all you smart quilty ladies & gents out there… and you were right.
Heart blocks in a chain for the win!
This week, you will be making the additional (6) large four-patch blocks needed [to combine with the (6) that you have already made) and then working on your final assembly.
With no sashing between our blocks, and no points to match up, this part should go together fairly quickly for you.
Our Valentine’s Mystery quilt is FRESH FROM THE QUILTER, so we didn’t add our binding just yet. We opted for a sweet “beaded orange peel” pantograph. Be sure to scroll through to see all of our photos…and a special thank you to Susan [@thefeltedpear] for her wonderful quilting magic and to Lacey [@laceypoirier] for all of her sewing loveliness on this project as well as her idea for it to begin with!
……
…and in case you missed it, here are our previous blog posts for the Valentine’s Sew Along:
Many of you have asked and YES, these patterns will stay right here on the blog for free – even after our sew along ends. So feel free to come back whenever you need to.
……
We are providing you instructions in TWO ways – both right here on the blog, as well as a downloadable PDF if you prefer a print-out (click below).
……
……
FROM YOUR ACCENT BLOCK FABRICS:
FROM YOUR REMAINING FABRIC REQUIREMENTS:
……
Step 1: Using pieces [f/g], join together to make a large four-patch block, just as you did in Week 2. Press open. Make (6).
……
Step 1: Lay out your blocks until you are pleased with the balance of colors and prints, alternating a HEART ON A CHAIN main block with a large four-patch accent block.
TIP: Watch your accent block fabric direction. We made sure to place a light/soft pink square in the TOP LEFT corner each time, as depicted in the below diagram.
Step 2: Assemble (5) rows of (5) blocks. Press toward the four-patch accent blocks. Then join the rows, nesting seams, and pressing open.
Step 3: Choose which cream print will be your left and right borders [L/R], and which will be for your top and bottom [T/B]. Piece both sets for length. For L/R, cut into (2) 3”x 60 ½. For T/B, cut into (2) 3” x 65 ½”. Add the outer border to the L/R sides first. Press out. Then add the T/B border. Press out.
Your quilt will measure 65 1/2″ x 65 1/2″ unfinished.
……
Step 4: Quilt as desired.
Step 5: Bind with (7) 2 ¼” binding strips.
……
We hope you have a HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! Thank you for joining us for our first SEW ALONG of the new year – and there’s much more where that came from so stay tuned.
Be sure to share your quilt finish with us in the FACEBOOK GROUP!
Happy Sewing,
