Winter Solstice Sew Along: Week #4

Welcome back to the Winter Solstice Sew Along!

This week we are sewing our final set of two blocks, Norwegian Star and Orion’s Cluster.  Norwegian Star is an updated version of a classic star block, and would make a fabulous stand-alone quilt…maybe scrappy summer patchwork, or assorted reds and creams for Valentine’s Day? 

Orion’s Cluster is the first block I designed for this sew along and I love how the generous overlapping stitch and flips make for crisp star points without extra seams.  I think it adds an extra bit of twinkle to the overall design.

Like last week, I encourage you to check the scraps of your background and ivory before cutting this week’s blocks.  You might be able to cut fewer strips and have fewer scraps left over at the end.

At the end of this week, you should have a total of (16) 8″ blocks.  In our next post, we will be revealing the final setting – our favorite part!

BLOCK #7: NORWEGIAN STAR

You will be making (2) of each block throughout the Sew Along. Cutting instructions account for both blocks each time.

Each block will be 8″ x 8″ finished/ 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ unfinished.
