MODA Blockheads: Blocks #52 & #53

Welcome to Week #53 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 SEW ALONG. It feels like I go in groups of 2 these days with everything else we have going on around here [Winter Solstice Sew Along, Stitchery Sampler Sew Along, Embroidery Sew Along, etc. etc]. I hope you are outpacing me or at least ready to work on these next two blocks along with me. We are SO VERY CLOSE to the end of this project… only 3 more after this one! THIS MONTH’S BLOCK #53: BEAR CUBS AROUND THE CAMP FIRE It’s Robin’s day today and this block has such a great feel and such a great name! I love it Robin! For our block, it was a perfect chance to do a little fussy-cut floral in the middle, sashed by a lighter red and a few stronger reds in the bearpaws…

MODA Blockheads: Block #43

Welcome to Week #43 of the FREE MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 SEW ALONG… Hello friends! It’s BLOCKHEADS TIME and its the start of a new round, the final one in the sew along! Don’t worry, we still have a few months to go. THIS MONTH’S BLOCK It’s Corey’s day today and here is the PDF DOWNLOAD, CLICK HERE. We chose a 12″ size for this one and went with a softer red for the large squares, our favorite red swirly for those accents squares and a darker red dot for the triangles. We mixed ivory solid and a cream print for the backgrounds just to give it a little more pop. Love how it came out. – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – &#8211…

MODA Blockheads: Block 39 & Block 40

Welcome to Week #40 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! Although I posted on Instagram last week, I never managed to add my info here on the blog for Week #39 so this week, we are doing a TWOFER! Last week’s creative block was brought to you by the fabulous Robin Pickens. Her MAD ABOUT PLAID block is so much fun and so versatile! Link HERE and download the pattern directions for your project. This is our version of Robin’s block…. we went for the 8″ version for this one… using a controlled palette of (2) strong reds, a softer red with lots more white in it so that it would stand out against the strong ones and a cream print. We love how the plaid comes out in it.. almost like a basketweave! BLOCK #40: STRINGS Up next this week is Janet Clare…

MODA Blockheads Block #38

Welcome to Week #38 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week we are back with Stacy Iest Hsu. Check out her fun graphic pattern, FRACTURED RAINBOW, link HERE and download the pattern directions for your project. This is our version of Stacy’s block…. we went for the 6″ version for this one… using a large variety of our scraps. Making the varegated rainbow didn’t really work in our traditional red and cream sampler so we simplified the design to use just two alternating colors. We used (6) red scraps for the main sections, (6) cream scraps for the coordinating background strips and then the same small red dot for the (4) corners. We wanted those little corners to stand seperate from the rest of the coordinating bars. ========================================================= BLOCK RESOURCE CLICK HERE FOR THE ARCHIVE OF ALL OF THE MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 BLOCKS WE…

MODA Blockheads: Block #37

Welcome to Week #37 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week we are back around to the beautiful Vanessa Goertzen. Check out her fabulous pattern, FIXER UPPER, link HERE and download the pattern directions for your project. This is our version of Vanessa’s block…. we went for the 12″ version for this one… and used the center as an opportunity to fussy cut a piece of one of our favorite large scale florals. I love how that came out! We surrounded it with a little tile print from Christmas Figs and then went all scrappy for the surrounding “square within a square” units around the outside. A few of our recent favorites… ========================================================= BLOCK RESOURCE CLICK HERE FOR THE ARCHIVE OF ALL OF THE MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 BLOCKS WE HAVE HAD SO FAR! MODA Blockheads: Block #36

Welcome to Week #36 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week we are back around to the lovely Laurie of Minick & Simpson. Check out her classic pattern, link HERE and download the pattern directions for your project. This is our version of Laurie’s block…. we decided to use a more involved print in the outer setting triangles… I think it really make those center pinwheels stand out ever more! We chose to do ours as a 6″ block, to add to our growing stack of the 6″ that we will need for the setting… and the stack is growing! ========================================================= BLOCK RESOURCE CLICK HERE FOR THE ARCHIVE OF ALL OF THE MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 BLOCKS WE HAVE HAD SO FAR! MODA Blockheads Block #35

Note… so sorry for the odd coloring of the photos this week. We are having the weirdest weather phenomenon from the terrible California fires and the sky is orange & dark all day long. It fees like there is no sun and it is dusk all day long… hence the slightly strange and over edited photos! Welcome to Week #35 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week we are back around to MODA LISSA and her fabulous scrappy combinations! I am always in awe of how she puts together scrappy quilts using collections that most of us would never think to put together! Check out her fun pattern, link HERE and download the pattern directions for your project. We chose to do ours as a 6″ block, to add to our growing stack of the 6″ that we will need for the setting. This was…

Moda Blockheads Block #34

Welcome to Week #34 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS SEW ALONG! This week we are back around to Miss Lisa and her love of tiny tiny pieces! I have to admit that even though the pieces might be many… this is hands down one of my favorite blocks we have done so far! Just gorgeous! Check out her pattern, link HERE and download the pattern directions for your project. We really enjoyed working on this one… okay, perhaps I am overstating it a bit given how hard it was to get all of those points and corners to match. As you can see… it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful, right?? We really love the OUTCOME even if the process might have made us a little bit crazy.. how about that for some truth? We chose the 12″ for this one… mostly…
