ROADTRIP

Part of our delay is because in the last couple of days we have had a broken finger and minor surgery, a roadtrip to teach and the editing of one too many high school English essays. Its been a full couple of days.

Not to mention the fact that I am furiously working on new patterns and a new fabric collection along with a couple other projects.  But I'd like to leave you with some photos of my roadtrip to Yuba City and Marysville. The ladies showed me a backroad for my journey and the views were just beautiful! I think I might have stopped one too many times.

And as I pulled in to downtown Marysville to teach, this is what I found. Breathtaking.

I love road trips, especially if there is time to stop along the way and enjoy all the sights and scents! Looks like you did so I hope it made for some peace and calm in a hectic week.

Oh what beautiful quilt blocks! Makes me want to start a new project. I’m right now finishing a quilt made with one of you beautiful fabric lines and a pattern by Camille Roskelley. Stop on over if you’d like. It’s all in Swedish but has a translation gadget.

    Have a great day!

That ‘structure’ is in Marysville? It didn’t look like that 50 years ago. Time did not stand still after all. BTW, what a fun roadtrip; beautiful photos.

Wow! We lived in Marysville Yuba City area back in 69-70! Then we moved out to the air force base. In fact we lived by an orchard just like that for a year! Wow! Memories! Thanks for the photos. And I love your fabrics and have your latest book! Next time maybe I’ll win the giveaway!

It’s wonderful to take the backroads and enjoy nature’s handiwork. Such beautiful photos. And, you really are ahead of the pack in the block making! How beautiful….Hope you have a restful weekend.

I very much enjoyed your talk at the quilt guild in Mayrsville Wednesday evening. You fabric speaks to me in so many ways. Just Beautiful. I hope next time to take your class. What was the name of the pattern you did the reverse chain in? The chain was in the white. Thanks for being such an inspiration.

    Marge-

It sure was a beautiful area to drive through in February. I cant even imagine how lovely it will be in June. We might have to plan a family roadtrip during the summer.

    Thanks for following along!

I just moved to Massachusetts from there…Beale AFB there right by Marysville and Yuba City. I wish you would have gone there a few months ago. I knew I recognized those orchards and structure in Marysville. I pre-ordered Avalon from Greenfairy quilts and plan to make a Dresden plate quilt with it. I love that blue. I missed out on CA Girl…we moved to CA Aug. 2011 and left Aug. 2012 but wanted it for the name and it had a pretty blue too.

Your pictures are amazing as we have 10 inches of snow on the ground. Your life sounds very hectic. Absolutely love your new line and your Moda friendship blocks. I do love your fabric and so wish a quilt shop close would carry your fabrics. I live in the middle of “few shops land”. But, I so enjoy your blog and look forward to every new post and of course all your beautiful fabric. Thank you so much for putting so much time into sharing it with us.

Whooo! You have had a busy week! You are in the fun, crazy times of a growing family! The sweetest time of all!
I sure do love all of your blocks and I am so inspired to get started on this quilt!! I love, love Avalon! I have signed up to do the Designer Mystery Block of the Month but I think this Moda Friendship Block is perfect in Avalon too! Need to go shopping for fabric! Yippee!
    Cheers,
    Colette

I live in Weimar but my inlaws live in Oroville so we travel through there often. This is always my favorite time of year I think is most scenic. I love the trees starting to blossom and the fields full of wild flowers and everything soooo green. Soon baby animals will be born to add to the great views.
I had no idea you were local. How do I find out where you are teaching?
    Great blocks! Love the fabric!

Love the blue and yellow block! Things are so green there! and you have flowers! It is still cold here, although we have had what I’ve always called “Easter Flowers” (the rest of the world calls them jonquils) blooming for a month or so – even through freezing and a light snow. Oh, well, spring will get here one of these days… And then summer and we will all be wanting cool weather again!

  14. Sarah | 3rd Mar 13

Looks like a very pretty roadtrip. It appears that spring has sprung in your part of the world. Here in Australia we are waiting for summer to fade away and autumn to rush in! Do you know what kind of fruit trees they are in the orchards? I used to live in a fruit growing region of Australia so am interested.

  15. Jessica | 3rd Mar 13

I just had to stop in and say…I wish I lived in California! Our weather here in Indiana has been dismal, and your photos have me LONGING for spring. Also I love the fabric choices you made for Barb and Mary’s block. I’ve been stopping in frequently since you started these Friendship blocks. I keep telling myself, “I WILL NOT start another quilt, I WILL NOT start another quilt…”

  16. SandyG | 3rd Mar 13

I hope you had a restful weekend after such a busy week. The road trip was very nice thank you for sharing. I’m also hoping that someone’s finger is okay. Funny how all the designers were talking about your blocks. How will you be using them? I didn’t get any made, have plenty of projects and still want to buy more fabric….waiting for Avalon! Congratulations to the winners, thank you so much for all you do Joanna, I appreciate it very much.

Oh wow – my husband and I grew up in Yuba City. We are actually going home this weekend to see our parents! Yippie! It really is a pretty place – love, love the pictures.

Thanks so much Sandy! I have no idea how I am going to use my blocks. I just got inspired to make some and will make more when I have a chance again but have no idea how I am going to finish it up. I will keep you all posted though!

The blocks are a bit addictive I must admit and I also love how Barb Marys block turned out. It is one of my top 3 favorites so far!

I know it was probably not fair to post all those lovely Spring photos when most of you are still under the snow, but I couldnt resist the beauty!
Hope you see some color soon!

I agree… the scenery on my drive was just absolutely beautiful! I live in the Bay Area but dont do a lot of local travel/teaching. Once in a while I will do a guild presentation such as this one. Once we get our calendar up and running, the information will be up there.

If your local quilt shop does not carry it, you should really go online. So many online stores carry our fabrics!

  23. LisaD | 11th Mar 13

So I had a super busy week last week and didn’t get a chance to check back, but was the ‘special treat’ you referred to in this post? I looked over your Facebook page as well as this blog, but I can’t figure out what I missed. Maybe I don’t want to know, because I’ll be sad I missed it!

  24. Emilou | 14th Mar 13

Congratulations to the three lucky duckys. Enjoy your wonderful prizes. Blessings and smiles, Emilou 🙂
