NEW…LAYER CAKE SQUARES

I know that most of us have a dozen half started projects that we are slowly working our way through and that is just okay… we are quilters after all :-)! I also know that most of us are often looking for a quick fun project or for a way to have some instant gratification in the midst of all of those other ongoing projects. So I am always hoping to give you guys new ideas, inspiration or new ways of using what you already have on hand! In our Facebook Group, each quarter or so we try to focus on a different MODA Precut and talk about ways to use it, feature some of our favorite Fig Tree projects for that precut, and cheer each other on in our completion. I also try to offer a simple fun pattern for that precut. Well, this time it is the LAYER…

SPECIAL HEART BLOCK ADDITION

When I first created our popular SEASONAL PATCHWORK pattern, I knew this quilt would be SO GOOD with other seasons and holidays and it was so hard to choose. We decided to include CHRISTMAS, AUTUMN, AND PATRIOTIC in the pattern itself but we ran out of room for more variations after that! Of course, a heart was first on the “want” list but also a clover or a daisy or so many other things would be great. SPECIAL ADDITION For this special ADDITIONAL HEART BLOCK, we used the CHRISTMAS layout within the pattern and simply substituted a large and a double mini heart block for the trees. You can of course make your own variations on amounts of blocks or how many of each kind but this gives you an idea on how it would look… Notice that on the small double hearts, we changed the layout…

WINTER WALK IN THE WOODS: Week #6

We Welcome You Back to the Winter Walk in the Woods Sew Along Week #6- Our Last Week Together!  From Susan: Welcome back to the final week of our Winter Walk in the Woods Quilt Along! Joanna and I hope you have enjoyed sewing with us these past five weeks and that this sew along has helped pass the time for you during the cold and snowy days of January. If you haven’t gotten to go out for your own Winter Walk in the Woods, I hope you get to go soon! Since I know so many of you are anxious to see the final quilt layout, we will get right down to work with our final quilt assembly.   As Joanna and I have mentioned throughout this quilt along, there are many pieces that are similar sizes and shapes and it is easy to get things…

WINTER WALK IN THE WOODS: Week #5

Susan and I Welcome You Back to the Winter Walk in the Woods Sew Along Week #5!  Thanks so much for joining us as we work our way through this Winter Walk adventure. I can’t believe that we are getting so close to seeing the final reveal! Are you guys getting excited? A Note From Susan: Joanna and I have loved seeing all of the versions pop up in the Fig Tree Quilts Friends Facebook group and on Instagram.  Each one is a little bit different, taking on a personality of the quiltmaker, and we especially love watching people try to anticipate what the next step and final layout will be. I shared in the Fig Tree Facebook about an evening walk I took last week.  The moon was low and if it wasn’t a full moon, it was pretty close.&nbsp…

WINTER WALK IN THE WOODS: Week #4

Susan and I Welcome You Back to the Winter Walk in the Woods Sew Along Week #4!  Thanks so much for joining us as we work our way through this Winter Walk adventure over the next few weeks. From Susan: We are still working on stars this week, and these particular stars will sparkle in the border of your quilt!  Constructed exactly just like Star # 2 from last week, these stars will form the basis of your pieced borders.  Grab Cream Print #6 and let’s get started! We opted to use the Cream Print #6 for the center of our stars and the solid ivory for the points.  You should have lots of variety left in your cream prints, so feel free to pick a small scale tonal cream print or more of Cream Print #6 for your star points if you prefer a scrappier…

WINTER WALK IN THE WOODS: Week #3

Susan and I Welcome You Back to the Winter Walk in the Woods Sew Along Week #3!  Thanks so much for joining us as we work our way through this Winter Walk adventure over the next few weeks. From Susan: This week we are lifting our eyes to the midnight sky and making a grouping of sparkling stars.   For these stars, feel free to mix and match Creams 1-5, and any unlabeled creams you might have with your solid ivory.  (Be sure to hold back Cream #6 for next week). We opted to sew most of our stars with a print center and solid ivory star points, but feel free to make your star points out of a print for added interest! Since all of the stars are the same block and we just varied the size, be sure to label your blocks to…

WINTER WALK IN THE WOODS: Week #2

Susan and I Welcome You Back to the Winter Walk in the Woods Sew Along!  Happy New Year! Thanks so much for joining us as we work our way through this Winter Walk adventure over the next few weeks. From Susan: Welcome back to the Winter Walk in the Woods Quilt Along!  I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year Celebration.  My family had a quiet day with a walk on the beach, sharing our hopes and dreams for 2022.  I hope your day was just as magical! This week we are going to jump right in and start sewing blocks for our quilt.  Gather up your background fabric, and Creams 1-5 that you identified last week and we will get started! Note on directions and cutting:  Due to the construction of the quilt, each section or type…

Winter Walk in the Woods- Week #1 “Gather Your Goodies”

Welcome to the Winter Walk in the Woods Sew Along!  Thanks so much for joining us as we work our way through this Winter Walk adventure over the next six weeks. I am so glad you have joined us during this “in between week” between Christmas and the New Year… to me, it always feels like a great time to clean up our sewing space a little and start something wintery and new! My friend Susan Vaughan has graciously agreed to lead us on our winter sew along journey for a second year in a row, so let’s get started. From Susan: Last winter, I designed Winter Solstice, a chambray and cream two color quilt.  Its simple, Nordic feel was perfect for the cold winter nights and the feeling of uncertainty we all felt.  Joanna graciously agreed to host a sew along…
