Getting Ready for STITCHERY SAMPLER SEW ALONG

We are so excited that the time for our STITCHERY SAMPLER SEW ALONG is almost here and we will be starting this Friday! We are so excited to work on this quilt with you guys, one week at a time!! THINGS TO DO TO BE READY CHOOSE YOUR FABRICS. If you are using the prepackaged kit in a box from MODA… yeah! Your fabrics have all been chosen for you. I will talk more about fabric placement and my hints and tips about that on Friday but for now you want to pick your palette. If you are using your own stash or a different group of collection, gather a good variety of colors. Since this quit is designed as a colorful sampler with a lot of simple blocks, I recommend a good variety of colors and different scale of prints for visual interest. Since we have already made…

Winter Solstice Sew Along: Week #4

Welcome back to the Winter Solstice Sew Along! This week we are sewing our final set of two blocks, Norwegian Star and Orion’s Cluster.  Norwegian Star is an updated version of a classic star block, and would make a fabulous stand alone quilt…maybe scrappy summer patchwork, or assorted reds and creams for Valentine’s Day?  Orion’s Cluster is the first block I designed for this sew along and I love how the generous overlapping stitch and flips make for crisp star points without extra seams.  I think it adds an extra bit of twinkle to the overall design. Like last week, I encourage you to check the scraps of your background and ivory before cutting this week’s blocks.  You might be able to cut less strips and have fewer scraps left over at the end…

MODA Blockheads: Block #50 & #51

Welcome to Week #50 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 SEW ALONG. I am doing a little catch up from last week as well as adding this week’s block too. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas week! THIS MONTH’S BLOCK #51: SPARK PLUG It’s Vanessas’s day today and this block is such graceful, delicate one. For our block, it was a perfect opportunity to showcase 2 small red florals and a favorite cream print for the center. Love the outcome so much! Here is the PDF DOWNLOAD, CLICK HERE on Vanessa’s blog to get the block and read her inspirations. Go grab yours! We chose a 8″ size for our version of this one. Thanks for this great addition to our sampler Vanessa. CATCHING UP And since we missed posting for last week, and many of you have checked in…

Simple Winter Creams Snuggle Throw

So if you missed my Instagram post last week… this was my feeling… “So this is my little winter gift to myself. ❄️☃️🎄 I don’t know about you but at some point, I have too many large projects undone and I can’t focus. One might think… well Joanna, that might be a good time to organize yourself and finish something, right? Well… that would be logical. 😂 Instead what my creative brain needs is to start and finish a super simple project that I can enjoy at home! So this is it… a super simple creamy patchwork, filled with creamy snowy prints, intermingled with our favorite winter fabric… CREAM SNUGGLE!! It will be the size of a lap throw and it will be done by the end of the weekend daggoneit! I know some of you might be in the same boat as…

Winter Solstice Sew Along: Week #3

Welcome Back Friends! Last week we celebrated the true Winter Solstice.  The moon was a brilliant quarter moon, and the Christmas Star of 2020 shown brightly in the Southwest sky.  The longest day of the year has come and gone with the promise of longer days, and the changing of the seasons.  This week’s blocks, Peppermint Star and Snowflake Dance use pinwheels to give the effect of stars twinkling in the night sky.  Don’t let Snowflake Dance intimidate you with all the quarter triangles!  A tip is to lay out your block on a design board before beginning to sew to make sure each of your pinwheels is spinning in the correct direction.  Go slowly, cut accurately, press rather than iron, measure each “unit” and trim if necessary to 2 1/2&#8243…

Merry Christmas Friends!

Just wanted to take a quick minute to wish each one of you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from our Figueroa family as well as our Fig Tree family. We are here 100% because of your loyalty and your support of our small business each and every year and we couldn’t be more grateful during this extra long and hard year. We couldn’t do it without you and we appreciate each one of you! We hope that as the year closes, you have time with your loved ones, whether in person or via phone or zoom, that you have time to reflect and some time of quiet joy. We know that this season is sometimes a rough one, and more so this year… our hearts go out to you and our thoughts are with you as you navigate this season. For those of you…

Winter Solstice Sew Along: Week #2

Welcome Back Friends! We are so glad you are here, and are enjoying seeing all of the pictures of Sparkle Dash and Northern lights pop up in our Face Book Group and on Instagram.  Please be sure to tag your post #wintersolsticesewalong and #wintersolsticequilt to make sure we see it!  This week, we will be working on Milky Way and Starburst blocks.  I think both of these blocks go together relatively quickly – perfect for sewing for a few minutes while cookies are in the oven or while waiting for family celebrations to begin. Directions for each block are written so you will cut new background strips each block.  Feel free to use your scraps from previous blocks first before you cut additional strips.  We can’t wait to see you next week for two new blocks! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BLOCK #3: STARBURST You will be making (2) of each…

It is so hard when one of these sew alongs gets ahead of you, don’t you think? THIS MONTH’S BLOCK It’s Lissa’s day today and this block just hits the spot… get it? ha ha. Okay, so puns are clearly not my thing! Lissa has been one of my favorite humans on the planet for quite some time… at least 15 years? No, maybe 20? Geesh, that is not even possible and she has a great block with a REALLY GREAT story too. Here is the PDF DOWNLOAD, CLICK HERE on Lissa’s blog to get the block and read her inspirations.
