Introducing PUMPKINS & BLOSSOMS

As a designer, I am always working well in advance of when I am ready to show you something and often in the completely wrong season. As designers, it is not unheard of for us to play Christmas music in July to motivate and inspire ourselves to design something good for Christmas :-)!! But it does feel really odd at times to be introducing fabrics and products to you guys now in January & February that are seasonal and won’t ship until the summer and that we aren’t ready to decorate with until September! I’m not complaining, by the way, just sharing my process. I am very excited to share with you my follow up Autumn/Halloween collection to our crazy cakes popular All Hallows Eve…. It is called PUMPKINS AND BLOSSOMS and it will start to arrive in stores in June, 2021. The…

THE HEXIE BLOCK In our quilt along, we are working on Block #4 this week, our HEXIE block, and for many of us our first attempt at working on a hand pieced hexagon block. Many of us found this to be so much more fun than we had expected and my hope is that you will love this week’s embroidery project just as much! This week, we used the LAZY DAISY stitch to represent our Hexie Blocks.  We thought the hexagons looked…

MODA Blockheads: Block #55

Welcome to Week #55 of the MODA BLOCKHEADS 3 SEW ALONG. I can’t believe that this is the second to last week of this amazing sew along. This week it Jen Kingwell’s turn once again and she is bringing us her Wine Not Block and it is a very unique block… just like Jen :-). THIS MONTH’S BLOCK #55: WINE NOT For this block, we chose to do a 8″ block for our version, the last 8″ block for the quilt. If you are doing the math, that means all we have left to do is one 12″ and one 6″ for next month… its a good thing that it will be our turn :-). Here is the PDF DOWNLOAD, CLICK HERE on Jen’s blog to get the block and read her inspirations. Go grab yours! WORKING ON…

THE STAIRWAY BLOCK We are working on Block #3 this week, our Stairway block, a fun zig zag feeling block that in quilting looks more complicated than it is and has a very simple construction. The stitch we are using for this week is the HERRINGBONE STITCH. Sophie stitched both samples (she really liked doing this stitch!).  For the Woven Fabric, she used 6 strands of floss and mimicked the drawn pattern on the sheet. For the Quilting Cotton version, she used four strands…

FIGS & FRIENDS: Collaboration #5

To those of you in the program… OUR FIFTH FIGS & FRIENDS BUNDLE HAS JUST GONE OUT so be on the lookout! Here is a little backstory to this series in case you missed it… Last year I went to a quilt show called ROAD TO CALIFORNIA and got to visit with my fellow MODA designer and friend, Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings. We sat in her booth while she stitched and talked about the show and our fabric. As I looked around me at the sea of blues and indigos [her newest collection called INDIGO GATHERINGS has just released], I thought about how I could use it even though it is so much darker than any fabrics I design for Fig Tree. And we started talking about how fabulous my orange would look with her blue [it was like one of those old Reese’s Peanut…
