ROSIE MINI CHARM PATCHWORK RUNNER

Well you know what happens around here when we find ourselves with some leftover goodies that we didn’t really plan for… the creativity begins. So this time here is the story…

Most times in the summer all I want to do is whip up something simple and fast that will instantly bring some Americana summertime vibes to the table.
I do believe this runner fits that bill all around!

When Fig Tree staff friend, Megan, came up with the idea, we were all in. What a wonderfully simple way to use our favorite precuts and have something so lovely to decorate your table with.

Created using our remaining stock of ROSIE mini charms and charms, this kit is pretty much almost completely cut out for you. I’m not even joking… the only thing you will need to cut is the ivory background!

The mini charms take care of the runner and the charm pack gets folded up into the sweetest prairie points for a no fuss prairie point border and you just leave them facing inwards for a charming and simple finish with nothing extra other than a binding to finish it all off.

So basically, I do believe you will be done by the end of the afternoon!!

Quilt it on your ow in the ditch like Megan did or with an oversized cross hatch or quickly send it out to your favorite long arm friend and you are all set for the next picnic, barbeque, family get together or summertime gift.

Final Size: App. 19 ½” x 59 ½”

KIT INCLUDES
1 charm pack [ROSIE]
3 mini charm packs [ROSIE]
1 yd. small ivory print with scissors [from our LINEN CUPBOARD collection]
3/8 yd. my favorite red gingham for binding [ROSIE]
2 yd. red floral coordinating backing

When we run out of this backing, we will sub with a different print.

So here is the info:

  • Use the (3) mini charms and create a 7 x 27 square grid for the patchwork. Start and end with a color square. So that means you are choosing (96) 2 1/2″ color squares from your mini charm packs. Set the remaining squares aside. This would include all the ivory prints and anything else you didn’t pick for your (96) color squares.
  • Use the leftover ivory prints from the mini pack for a part of the “background squares” and cut (4) 2 ½” strips of your ivory background fabric in addition to those. Cut into (53) 2 ½” squares of your background fabric. Join with all the ivory print mini charms. If you don’t have enough or want to replace your mini charm ivory prints with more background fabric, just cut more until you have a total of (93) 2 1/2″ squares for the background.
  • Arrange it how you like. Remember that you are starting and stopping the first row with color and ending it with a row that starts and ends with color as well.
  • Add a 3″ cut border. To do that, cut (4) 3″ strips. Piece (3) of them together for length. Cut into (2) 3″ x 54 ½” T/B borders and add them to your runner. From the remaining strip, cut (2) 3″ x 19 ½” L/R borders and add those. Press all borders out.
  • Quilt as desired. Megan used a simple stitch in the ditch quilt design on her regular/domestic machine. Easy peasy. A large oversized cross hatch would look great as well.
  • Use the CHARM P ACK SQUARES and fold them into prairie points. Search for my Prairie Point tutorial on YouTube if you have never made Prairie Points… they are honestly the most simple thing ever. You take the square and fold it up twice into a double triangle and that is it.
  • Arrange them all the way around the runner, arranging them how you like color and print wise. Megan used (5) on the short sides and (15) on the long sides. Pin them in place to keep them from shifting and stitch them in place with a stitch line that is a bit less than your standard ¼” seam so that it doesn’t show through when you add the binding.
  • Bind with (5) 2 ¼” binding strips of red gingham!
  • Enjoy your charming little summer runner.
  • Thanks Megan for your fun project!

I love this runner (or maybe a pillow?) This is such a great idea and a fun way to have even more Rosie in our home.
