My friend Cynthia has been working on her Pineapple Quilt and is making a bit of progress each week… I am loving watching this sweet little quilt grow and evolve. We decided that my favorite soft yellow solid would be the perfect sashing for this quit and a great coordinating solid to go with our Catalina collection in general. More info at the end of this post.
She used leftover pieces from her charm pack for the posts… choosing all cream prints and green prints. Any lighter prints would work well here I think. The reason I wouldn’t choose the brighter prints, is that we were going for a soft feel that would help each block stand out and really feature the prints and colors.
SASHING INFO: The blocks are 6″ finished so that means 6 1/2″ unfinished and so the sashing would also be cut at 6 1/2″ length. So each sashing piece is cut 2″ x 6 1/2″. If you want to do the same size and setting that Cynthia did, you will need (49) 2″ x 6 1/2″ pieces, so that means you will need to cut 9 strips [ you will need 3/4 yd. to do that]
You will need (30) 2″ x 2″ squares in a variety of creams and greens for the posts.
PAPER REMOVAL TIPS
Cynthia’s big tip to all of you… DO NOT REMOVE THE PAPERS UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE PIECED THE BLOCKS INTO THEIR FINAL POSITION. The reason for this is that there is a lot of bias on the edges of those little guys and the blocks, even finished, are super duper stretchy. So keep the paper on until you are ready to put on the final borders.
In case you missed it before, there is more info on how we cut and made each of the blocks, info on the papers themselves HERE in this post as well hints, tips and cutting info from a honeybun.
…One honeybun and one charm pack is all you need!
ALL THE INFO
For the blocks: (1) Catalina Honeybun and (1) Catalina Charm Pack. Check with your local quilt shop to see if they are getting Catalina later next month and if they have purchased those precuts!. If we are pretty much your “local quilt shop”, then let us know if you would like to pre order some goodies or a full kit and we will be more than happy to do that for you. Email is the best way for me to compile info joanna@figtreequilts.com
For the yellow: 3/4 yd. of that yummy yellow solid . Click HERE for that.
Supplies: If you want to make these exact blocks, you will need the It’s Sew Emma PINEAPPLE PAPERS and you can get them HERE and they work perfectly with any MODA HONEYBUN [a roll of 1 1/2″ strips].
Next week: We will show you the final outer cream border we added.
Let me know if you guys have any questions!
