VINTAGE FRIENDSHIP STARS SEW ALONG: WEEKS THREE & FOUR

Welcome to Week #4 of our VINTAGE FRIENDSHIP STARS SEW ALONG…I can’t believe we are already in our final week!

I want to take a moment to apologize for not posting last Monday for Week #3. We had our 2nd annual Fig Tree Retreat here in California this past weekend and the last-minute prep work was a bit underestimated. 🙂

We said our goodbyes yesterday, Sunday, and now it’s back to reality…but there’s always a silver lining, and that’s being able to get back to this beautiful sew along!

I am combining both Week #3 and #4 tips in this post. I hope you are still with us!

In case this is your first time here on the blog, be sure to check our previous (4) posts for lots of tips and guidance on getting started with this project. Feel free to join in any time!

Most of the work of this quilt is picking out a good grouping of colors and low volumes to recreate the feel of the vintage quilt we fell in love with.

SCHEDULE

In Week #3 (last week if you are staying on schedule), you made (6) Side Stars and (24) Sashing Blocks.

This week, we are working on Sashing Rows and Assembly.

We are so close you guys! Except me…I fell behind. But that’s totally OK. Work at your own pace. This is where I am at below… but each day I am plugging along!

These blog posts will remain right here so no rush if you are in the same boat as me.

Here above are just a few pics of the inspiration in our group… I am loving all of these groupings so much!

TIPS & HINTS

The biggest tip I have for both Week #3 and #4 is to ensure you read the pattern carefully. I’ve seen a lot of questions about how the blocks go together and still keep the “star” shapes…and I promise it is all explained. If you find yourself getting confused, stop and reread your pattern. Remember that the “sashing” are just pieces of the next block!

For those of you who are in the assembly mode already and have questions about the border, here are a few tips:

  • Look at your finished quilt top and see if there is any particular tone you really want to “pull out” from the scrappy inside.
  • To keep the vintage feel of this quilt, I would recommend a small or tonal print.
  • Even though normally I might pick something more involved, for this project I am for sure going for a small geometric print or in my case, a woven.
  • If you want to make your quilt a bit larger, consider adding more blocks on the side and bottom. OR simply a larger border would add bit more size as well.
