DRAWSTRING GIFT BAG: EASTER BASKET FINISHING IDEA

We have fallen in love with these little drawstring bags for showcasing cross stitch and quilt blocks…all while being super useful at the same time. Win-win, right?!

With Easter coming up, we brainstormed some ideas on goody bags for quilty friends, family, and children alike. We hope you love what we came up with as much as we do!

Thanks to Lacey [@laceypoirier on INSTAGRAM] for this sweet and functional Easter idea!

DRAWSTRING BAG INFO

We used the EASIEST ACCESSORY BAGS EVER PATTERN to make our drawstring bags. These bags are fully lined and can be made in a variety of sizes in the pattern itself. Over the years, we have used them for everything from shoe bags, laundry bags, Christmas gift bags, notion and goodie bags and everything in between!

Here are the measurements and steps we used for this particular project if you’d like to make a similar ‘Easter Basket’ version that looks like ours in size…

  • Make your A TISKET – A TASKET quilt pattern block. Each basket block will measure 5″ x 5 1/2″ unfinished.
  • For the front bag [where you are going to set in the basket quilt block], you are going to cut (4) pieces total and set in your block.
    • Cut (1) 3 1/4″ x 10″ for the top.
    • Cut (2) 3″ x 5 1/2″ for the sides.
    • Cut (1) 10″ x 14 1/4″ for the bottom.
  • Cut your lining piece to 10″ x 22″.
  • Assemble the pieces to make the outside portion of your drawstring bag.
  • Follow the ‘Laundry & Gym Bag’ directions inside the EASIEST ACCESSORY BAGS EVER PATTERN to finish your bag.
  • Referring to the ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS,
    • Step 1: If using our front bag piecing instructions here on the blog, you will not have to ensure your “bottom” fabric matches.
    • Step 2 & 3: Stop 3″ down from the top on each side.
    • Step 4: Fold edge down 1 1/4″.
    • Step 5: Referring to the diagram, from the “tip of the triangle” to the “bottom sewing line”, measure in 2″, mark your line, and sew.
  • Thread with ribbon or twill tape [we used the TAPE MEASURE TWILL TAPE and cut at 26″].
  • OPTIONAL: Add fun buttons or notions to “fill your baskets” – we used some cute embroidered flowers we found for our samples! We stitched a simple “X” in the center to keep the flowers more 3-dimensional.
