Fig Day at the MODA Country Fair

Bandrbundle
… the giveaway bundle. See bottom of post.

Well hello MODA Blog Hoppers, I guess today must be my day to wow you with favorite fair food answers and random trivia about my life. Hope you are ready! We always like to give our guru Lissa a hard time but truth be told, we usually have quite a bit of fun playing along. So here goes…

MY FAVORITE FAIR FOOD:

CHEESE ON A STICK It’s not nearly as bad as it sounds, I promise.

Hotdogstick

In fact I guess its not really a fair food at all but since its on a stick, I’m making an executive decision and listing it as mine. Its actually a shopping mall food!! Do you have a Hotdog on a Stick stand in your mall food fair? If you do, then you know exactly what I am talking about. If you don’t, you really ought to search one out the next time you are feeling like fried cheese. What is my excuse for eating this thing? I grew up with one in my local mall and as a teenager just couldn't resist it!

Chocolateorange
… chocolate covered orange peel. OMG.

MY GUILTY PLEASURE:

CHOCOLATE & ORANGE in any combination. The easiest to get are the chocolate covered orange sticks from Trader Joe’s although if my hub wants to bring me a special treat, he will go and acquire chocolate covered orange peel from a "real" chocolate store which is my favorite indulgence in the world!

  Pitcherofleaves

… my favorite vintage wooden spools with some autumn leaves.

SOME THINGS FROM MY BUCKET LIST:

Visit the South of France.

Learn to knit. I have tried before… many times… but I just can't seem to get the hang of it!

• Go to Ireland.

• Have time to drag out my pottery wheel and make stuff. Lots of stuff.

See the leaves turn in the autumn in New England.

Build a cute chicken coop and have chickens in our backyard.

Plant an entire English country garden.

Take my best friend to Poland to see my “homeland”

Road trip across the entire US with all of my kids and not have anyone kill each other during the time.

Own a bed and breakfast or an inn.

Teapot
… my autumn decorating is starting slowly. More tea drinking than anything else.

WHAT INSPIRES MY WORK:

COLOR. For me, it is always about the color palette. It comes in many forms and from many places such as flea markets, travel, giftwrap, vintage textiles, gardens, etc. Regardless of where I am or what I am looking at, it seems that color is always the first thing that I notice and that draws me in. After that comes design, proportion, combinations and all the rest.

Summerbracelets
… some of us here are still holding on to a little bit of summer with our vacation bracelets.

RANDOM JOANNA FACTS…

Factoid #1: I sing when no one is listening ALL THE TIME. I sing when my kid’s friends are around in order to embarrass them. I sing when people are around and they shouldn’t have to put up with my singing.

Fabricstack
… our newest collection, Butterscotch & Rose, coming to stores in October. Precuts are shipping now!

Factoid #2: We only watch what we TIVO. It is so bad that last year, we turned on live TV for something and our youngest daughter couldn’t understand why on earth we couldn’t fast forward through the commercials. She had never watched live tv as far as she could remember!!!

Calgirlsneek2

… a tiny sneak peek of something coming up

Factoid #3: In our house, my hub is the one who enjoys watching his favorite movies over and over again ad nauseum. Me, I watch the James Bond movies when my dad is visiting. I can relive my high school days by watching Dirty Dancing and Footloose any time they are on tv [and I AM NOT HAPPY that they are remaking either] but other than that, I'm not much of a movie repeater.

Chickenscratch1
… my favorite bucket list item right now & the subject of my project below

Chickenscratch2
.. I've grown attached to these two. Kind of feel like I should name them.

COUNTRY FAIR PROJECT:

For my COUNTRY FAIR PROJECT, I thought I would share a little Chicken Scratch. Click on link below for the pdf file of the pattern. This project is now a pattern. Please visit our website to see all the patterns!

  Chickenscratchlogo

After we made this project we liked it so much that we thought we might make it into a regular Fig Tree Threads patterns after the Blog Hop is done. So it will be here available for free download for the next week or so and then it will become a regular pattern.

We have also made up a few KITS for Chicken Scratch. Kit includes the flour sack towel, all the fabric and floss you will need and a printed out version of the pattern. Click here for more info.

And if you haven't had enough yet, here is my video from the MODA Blog Hop at Spring Market. Why is it always so painful to watch yourself on film? Anyone, anyone?

  176. Sharon | 15th Sep 11

I’m fairly new at quilting…maybe about a year since I started, so I’m still finding new-to-me fabric designers and you are one of them. I looked at your fabric lines and fell in love! They are ALL beautiful! I love all colors and it’s hard to choose a favorite, but I’ve been thinking about making something in black and white at some point. I think your designs would be gorgeous in black and white!

  177. Sue Rynex | 15th Sep 11

I love reds, browns and olives. At the fair you should always eat funnel cakes.

  178. Cathi | 15th Sep 11

  197. Nancy | 15th Sep 11

My kids are into poultry. I just love the colors of my daughters Bantam Buff Brahmas, especially the rooster. The creamy yellows into butterscotch to almost copper accented with black and just a touch of red. Oh and the colors of the Ameraucana eggs – from light green to robin egg blue to a kahki green in crosses.

  198. Tracy | 15th Sep 11

Its hard to decide because most colour compliment one another. But sage green is one I am always drawn to.

  199. Beth | 15th Sep 11

  207. Gloria | 15th Sep 11

I associate Chocolate and Orange with Christmas. Here in the UK, there is a confection in the shape of an orange with individual segments made of milk chocolate flavoured with orange all wrapped in orange foil (called Terry’s Chocolate Orange). They start appearing in great numbers in the stores in the run up to Christmas but a lot of us cannot wait til then to eat them!
Mmmm – a new colour for your fabrics? I like them just the way they are!

  208. Patricia Conner | 15th Sep 11

Try and find your local knitting store as they should be able to help you on this. Your fabrics are so beautiful and yummy that I can’t even imagine what more to add.

  230. Susan | 15th Sep 11

My fav colors that you always use to some degree are your oranges, they just read like a creamsicle……the other fav color right now is the Strawberry Fields blue, that is like an old worn out tablecloth with a great vintage 50’s look. Okay, those don’t really count as colors to add but can I say patterns??? Well, I am anyway, I adore, love and covet all of your polka dots and ginghams, those are the must haves in anything you do….kind of like marshmallows in hot chocolate. Oh, and one more thing, I adore your grays that you are adding in like in Strawberry Fields, it is just subtle enough…thanx….Susan

  231. Cari | 15th Sep 11

Butterscotch and Rose….perfect. I love, love, love the colors in this line. Wouldn’t it be great for the Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt? I think so !! Thanks for sharing.

  232. Melissa | 15th Sep 11

Every time I open your blog I relax. The colors are just so soothing. Maybe you could find a nice yellow to add to your mix. Yellow can be so tricky. Hm, maybe the color along the border of your blog? 🙂

  246. lauraluvsloons | 15th Sep 11

I love all your fabrics and colors. I’m going to make some chicken scratch towels – very cute pattern. My favorite colors always go with blues, as you use in most of your fabric lines. I especially like in the colors used in the urban indygo line.

  247. DianeH | 15th Sep 11

I really love shades of red with white. Thanks for the beautiful free pattern and for participating.

  248. Stefania | 15th Sep 11

Dear Johanna, I love all your colours, they are soft and refined in the same way, in Starwberry fields I loved roses in gray, but I think you use an especially red in all collections.

  249. Marcia Kosturock | 15th Sep 11

Sage green and dusty pink. My grandmother had the most amazing wall paper in her old house, and I will never get it out of my head.

  250. Sue Schultz | 15th Sep 11

I love the coral red. I really love all colors though. My favorite part of quilting is choosing the fabric.

    Ann Marie

  260. Penny | 15th Sep 11

Love your fabric also. I have a Strawberry Fields Jelly Roll and the FQS Petite FQ Bundle waiting to be pieced. Looking forward to Butterscotch and Roses, thinking your Log Cabin pattern. Love your colour range but I do have a soft spot for rich purple and yellow. Enjoyed reading your post and thank you for the chickens, so cute! When you can’t have the real thing then decorate with them.

  261. Patti J. | 15th Sep 11

Wow, I have never heard of cheese on a stick or chocolate covered orange peel. I will have to start keeping an eye out for them and give them a try. You already have red in your collection, but that is my fav color. Maybe you could add a little black? Love that color too.

  262. Ann L | 15th Sep 11

I love ALL of your colors especially the tomato red and story-book blue. With the creams they are very calming.

  263. Kathy H | 15th Sep 11

I love all those peaches in your fabrics. I guess I would like to see some robin’s egg blues also.

  264. Jeanneke | 15th Sep 11

  275. Andra | 15th Sep 11

I loved your post! The color I love most in the world is yellow, all shades! I do love most colors, though red is not my favorite ( I can handle a burgandy) so I have a hard time sewing with it, and I don’t like red mixed with yellow. Love your fabrics, thanks for the chance.

  276. Jodi | 15th Sep 11

A little soft black? I put something black in everything I make (my mother thinks black is awful – maybe that is why I’ve always loved it!) Done with taste, it’s a good thing.

  277. JudyCnNC | 15th Sep 11

Some days I cannot spell – forgive me as it should have been Joanna – JudyC

  278. Sandy (Strlady) | 15th Sep 11

New England in Autumn is gorgeous. Lived there many years and it became my favorite season. Now that I live in TX I try to time my family visit around the first week of October. This year I had to go early so I will miss it but I love it.
I also TiVo (we DVR) everything! If we are flipping through channels and see something on that we might want to watch we record and then come back 1/2 an hour later. Comercials are wasted in our house.

I love when you include blue in your lines but I especially love your yellows. It’s a splash of sunshine in your project. thanks!

  279. Pauline | 15th Sep 11

My favorite color is turquoise/aqua. Thank you for the opportunity to be in the drawing.

Lovin’ the yellows and reds. Beautiful.

  281. Linda Cates | 15th Sep 11

    Blessings from Tennessee…Christa

  288. Kim Q | 15th Sep 11

  289. Elizabeth | 15th Sep 11

I generally love your fabric colors, but I am personally partial to greens in all shades! Right now, oceany, bluey-greens particularly appeal to me–maybe I need a trip to the seaside??

    Kimberly

  295. Carol Sc | 15th Sep 11

Hard to decide on a favorite color — think I would like to see some darker turquoise (not even sure I can spell it!). I agree that color is the first to impact my senses, when looking at anything.

  298. katie paxton | 15th Sep 11

Gosh, my favorite color, that is hard. I love all in the purple to mauve color. I guess it would be easier to say my least favorite, and that would be red. Don’t know why that is.

love corn dogs and turquoise and orange

  300. Stray Stitches | 15th Sep 11

I would have to say that I love all of your colors. The softness of the hues works with so many color themes. I must confess I have one bundle of your fabrics that I can’t cut into, because they look so nice tied up and on my display shelf. Plus, if I’ve decided they are art unto themselves, I can buy more fabric!!

  304. Karen | 15th Sep 11

I’ve been doing a lot of Pinterest lately, and I am really drawn to Robin’s Egg Blue!! I see it in various shades and it’s always a color that makes me happy..more gentile than turquoise, a little more like a teal, but very soft!!

  305. Nancy Peterson | 15th Sep 11

    What a fun giveaway!

  306. Ellen | 15th Sep 11

I scan my email every morning for your Fig Tree entries. The new fabric line is beautiful. The color that I would like to see in the future is a periwinkle. Keep up the great work.

    Ellen

  307. Carol | 15th Sep 11

Joanna, I love all of your fabrics and all of your color choices. These are the colors in my home! Guess you have been an inspiration!!! Personally, I can’t think of a favorite that hasn’t been included. Just keep them coming…leaving me with a smoking credit card and having to explain why to a husband who thinks a “stash” has something to do with facial hair.

  308. Jane | 15th Sep 11

I love love love all your colors. I buy any precuts and yardage of any of your fabrics when I can find them. By the way if you want to see the foliage in New England I live in Massachusetts!!!Did I mention that I have never won anything online? Hint!Hint! If you’re ever in good ole Massachusetts, I’ll take you a guided tour of the foliage–the most beautiful time of the year around here. All I do all day is lie around in leaf piles and eat apple pie!! Just kidding.

  309. Monica | 15th Sep 11

  311. Sansarya | 15th Sep 11

There’s a particular shade of plum-y lilac that you used in the Cornucopia collection that I really love. I’m not a purple girl (my favorite color is red), but that fabric was so gorgeous and the color so rich and lovely, I hope you bring it back. Loved the video. 🙂

  312. Debbie | 15th Sep 11

  319. jenn | 15th Sep 11

do you have a purple-y lilac color? i am thinking it might look spectacular against some of the darker colors. with the purple being the field and some small pale flowers scattered across. id be tempted to put it next to the darker browns and maroon sort of colors to really set off some applique

  320. Linda | 15th Sep 11

Thanks so much for sharing these factoids. Gosh, what colours are missing? hmm, green is my favorite color – I’m not sure that it’s missing, but I always love to see more of it! Thanks for the giveaway.

  322. Marcia Burt | 15th Sep 11

My favorite color is PURPLE!!! But I do love the colors in your fabrics! You have made an “aqua & red” believer out of me! 🙂 I am really enjoying this designer blog hop! It’s so much fun to meet all you designers and learn a little bit more about you!

  327. Stephanie | 15th Sep 11

My favorite color is pink, but since I am in the mood for autumn, orange would be heavenly right now. The leaves are slowly starting to change and it is so pretty here at 7000 ft.

I enjoyed reading about and seeing some of your favorite things. Aqua is one of my favorite colors and in the right shade would play so well with some of your fabric lines. Thanks for the awesome giveaway and the chance to win.

  373. Peggy Sindelar | 15th Sep 11

Reds, yellows and chocolates are some of my favorites! Always look forward to a new line from Fig Tree.

  376. Brenda | 15th Sep 11

I love all of your colors in your collections but I think I really like the reds this time of year. Maybe it kinds goes with the seasons?

  377. Sarah | 15th Sep 11

You always have fantastic color combinations… it would be great to see some purple worked in there… something like a lilac, plum, and mint green combination, with maybe a hint of apricot. Oh, and a soft gray also.

Thanks for the chicken towel instructions. I raise meat chickens and egg layers, and am always on the lookout for anything related to chickens.

  378. Rose | 15th Sep 11

I would love to see some really, really soft yellows and lavenders. I don’t see these colors very often in anybody’s lines. Hope you pick me to win!

  379. patricia g | 15th Sep 11

    love this bundle, thanks Joanna.

  380. Nicole Willmore | 15th Sep 11

I would be in heaven to win this fabric. What color should you add? Maybe a nice pale yellow, I’m sure you have in other collections you always seem to use such pretty colors!

  381. Jan Blevins | 15th Sep 11

My favorite color that you use is the yellow orange that is almost peach. I love it and the way your colors always give me a warm feeling inside.

  382. Brenda | 15th Sep 11

Since moving to France 10 years ago and joining a patchwork group I have had a passion for collecting fabric. I have to admit Moda and Fig Tree in particular are my favourites. I have to be very strong willed to resist collecting each and every fabric in all your ranges. I usually limit myself to fat quarters in my favourite colours, which are all the creams, peaches, apricots and pale green. Your “Houses” book is full of patterns including these colours and is just waiting for me to finish a few other projects.
I hope you get your wish to visit France soon, I’m sure you will love it as we do.

  383. Linda | 15th Sep 11

I just love all the colors,so beautiful.

  384. rosa | 15th Sep 11

I love your fabrics and your color choices, beautiful.
Green, red and white is one of my fav.

  385. Julie Letvin | 15th Sep 11

My favorite color is barn red, but I love the colors you use in your fabric lines, they are so fresh and pretty. I’m hoping to teach my SIL to quilt – she wants to make something with your fabrics.

  386. Pat Broe | 15th Sep 11

These fabrics are fabulous. I am an unabashed Fig Tree Fan. My favorite color is soft buttery yellow and you often have just the perfect shade of yellow in your lines. I can never get enough of this sunny goodness though, and yellow appears in some shade in every quilt I make for myself and in any quilt that calls for a drop of sunshine.

I also love brown and orange … perfect for those fall quilts and any time of year really. The melon orange in your Dandelion Girl line was one of my favorites … would like to see this just a tad darker and more orangey. Maybe with a brown like that in Allspice Tapestry? This was one of my favorite chocolate quilty indulgences of all time. A Chocolate Covered Orange line would be sooooooo yummmmmy!

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!! 😉 Pat

  387. Bobbie | 15th Sep 11

BTW – I visited Lynne’s blog today and am very much looking forward to following her regularly.

    LOVE that chicken pattern!

  393. nrnoodle | 15th Sep 11

Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I had no idea you were from Poland. We lived in Germany for 6 years and we would travel to Poland every three months to take stuff to a mission there. I loved the feel of the country and I enjoyed driving through the countryside. I hope you do get to take your your friend there someday.

  394. Lee Ann L. | 15th Sep 11

I like the opportunity to purchase the entire line in the pre-cuts. Thanks for chance to win this beautiful fabric!!!

  410. grace | 15th Sep 11

  417. Rebecca S. | 15th Sep 11

I love your butter yellows and sky blues, however if I had to pick a new color it would be purple. Not that I’m overly fond of purple, but my youngest has decided it is her favorite color. She keeps asking me when I’m going to make her purple quilt. It is surprisingly hard to find pretty lilacs and purples.

  418. elizabeth t | 15th Sep 11

Every time I see a quilt that I love, it is made with your fabric! Can’t wait to get some Butterscotch and Roses! I love reds and greens! Thanks for the chance to win!

  434. pat addler | 15th Sep 11

  435. Gwen | 15th Sep 11

The color I would add would be a darker pink and a darker blue to go with all the fabulous prints and colors that you already use. Looking forward to seeing the new line. Thanks so much for the pattern.
I would always try to find away to get out of going to
the chicken coop to gather eggs, as more than not would

I absolutely LOVE the color pallete of Fig Tree. When I found out I was pregnant this year, I dreamed and dreamed of the fabulous Fig Tree colors I would use in a little girls room…but, alas, I am having a boy! (thrilled about that too!) So I will be using the Whimsy collection in his nursery, but I would love to see more “boyish” colors and fabrics in the future…perhaps more browns, grays, greens, and all manner of aquas? Thanks!!

Thank you for the cute chicken pattern! I have a chicken coop and chickens where I live and really enjoy my fresh eggs! I’LL BE MAKING ONE OF THESE TOWELS TO HANG ON THE RAIL ON MY OVEN IN MY KITCHEN!!

I enjoy all the colors that you are using already. My favorite color though is celedon – when I see that color in fabric or pottery I feel peaceful.

  507. Ti | 15th Sep 11

I couldn’t pick a favorite – each one is quite magical even if it isn’t a color I would normally use – they somehow touch my soul and make me love them. Sometimes I go to quilt shops simply to absorb the color, touch the fabric and be refreshed. Visiting your website does that too.

  508. Mary Beth | 15th Sep 11

What a truly gorgeous blog… wish I could stay all day

  509. Kristi | 15th Sep 11

You had me at FIG! And love of colors! And a bucket list. We now have ripe black figs descended from a tree from Italy brought to America 80 years ago. My green thumb husband has planted a stick and grown a tree everywhere we’ve lived. Something about the shape is intriguing. I loved the fig-shaped flower petals. And we have fig-shaped yellow tomatoes from our community garden that my granddaughter loved. FIG = Family Inspired Goodies.

  513. Michelle Rodriguez | 15th Sep 11

Love your fabric lines. I think my favorite color right now is the soft reds like what you used in Strawberry Fields.

  514. Laura G | 15th Sep 11

My Favourite colors in your palette are the greens and then the aquas; especially when they are used in a tiny floral print. The Butterscotch and Roses collection is stunning. The use of that collection in the Chicken Scratch project is adorable. I too agree with some of the other comments and I would love to see some lavenders and purples like those in the Gypsy Rose collection. These colors look so great with the greens. Thank you for the contest.

  515. Julie T | 15th Sep 11

I too love orange and chocolate! That picture made my mouth start to water and it is only 8:00 a.m. where I live:)

Thanks for giving us a peek into your life!

  519. Flatlander (Linda Hoch) | 15th Sep 11

  520. Deborah Hays | 15th Sep 11

WOW! I didn’t know we had so many things in common!! Kind of scary…. 😉 However… I would never have sung in front of my kids’ friends…. I think my kids would have taken me out… or committed me. I adore green, but I would be pretty hard pressed to choose from your collections, I like them all so much. Thanks for the wonderful give aways.. keep up the singing! Debbie

  521. Staci | 15th Sep 11

  526. Karen Linton | 15th Sep 11

I saw a cinnamony-watermelon in a shirt the other day…and bought it, that was absolutely gorgeous. Not quite the pink of watermelon or the red or brown. I wish i knew the real color. It’s gorgeous!

I vote for either a darker green or a red!

  583. Pati | 15th Sep 11

    Joanna:

Enjoyed reading your blog this morning over coffee before I head to work…I do have to say that if you ever open a B&B or Inn, then I definitely would like to know where it is so I can come for a visit! You could offer quilting retreats…hey, there’s an idea!! Anyway, have to say my favorite color as of right now is anything aqua, LOVE IT!
Thanks for the pattern. Oh, and by the way, there is an awesome little pattern for a backyard chicken coop in the July/August 2011 issue of Country Living that would totally be your style, check out http://www.countryliving.com/coop for the plans. The whole magazine article is great on how to get started.

    Stephanie

  599. Connie Martin | 15th Sep 11

I LOVE chocolate covered orange peel. yum. How about a pale lavender for the next collection. I would love to have chickens in the back yard too, but no back yard. They are all the rage here in my town. I think it would be great to have fresh eggs.

    Connie

  600. Mary | 15th Sep 11

    Thanks for the giveaway.

    Debbie

I am definitely a red person. I love them all. My mom told me when I was little I refused to eat anything red. Weird, I know. When I lived in Seattle and would go to the Puyallup Fair I would always get the famous scones. You can buy the mix but it just doesn’t taste the same.

  634. Lynda H | 15th Sep 11

Must add “the way we were” with Strisland and Redford as a repeat movie – I cry every time. Love the soft colors of your fabrics – would like to see greys is several hues.

  635. Connie Morgan | 15th Sep 11

Enjoyed reading your bucket list! Inspiring! As far as a favorite color…hmmm, I am really fond of the peachy/pink colors…and the reds…the blues are nice too, as well as the greens! Oh who am I kidding? All of your colors are gorgeous and you do such a wonderful job of combining them into fascinating collections!

  636. amorette | 15th Sep 11

i love the colors you use already- do you think a grey would fit in with those? maybe a grey and raspberry pink?

  637. Mah | 15th Sep 11

Hi Joanna, Another great blog post and thank you for sharing. I can’t imagine changing your colorway. The colors you use are one of the things that makes you you. I can look at an aray of fabric bolts and pick yours out everytime. I know whatever color you add will be great. See you in Houston.

  638. Jeannette Hall | 15th Sep 11

I love the Butterscotch and rose fabrics. The Butterscotch is beautiful. All your fabric lines make me happy!

You are absolutely, without a doubt, my favorite designer ever. Really. Please, please pick me!!! Or just adopt me.

  640. Sandy Hansen | 15th Sep 11

Your new fabric looks gorgeous. The colors I look for and can’t find are a real soft teal and a rose color with a touch of brown. Thanks for offering the prizes, I’ll be checking back!

  641. Cynthia Van Landuyt | 15th Sep 11

I love all your colors but my favorites are the yellows.

Saw your bucket list and think you need the sign from Hollyhill for your Bed and Breakfast which says Bed and Breakfast, you make both.

  642. sandy f. | 15th Sep 11

All your colors are rich and fabulous. A few more creamy browns are always nice!

  643. barbsnope@msn.com | 15th Sep 11

    I love all colors!

  644. Brittany Namchuk | 15th Sep 11

Your Chicken Scratch towel is adorable. I think you should name them Henrietta and George! Right now my favourite colours are grey and buttercup yellow. But in all fairness I love ALL of your fabric colours. They are my fav and have made more than a few quilts with them 🙂 I look forward to seeing what other marvellous stuff you come up with!

  645. Lee | 15th Sep 11

  650. Mary Ann Wiles | 15th Sep 11

I am working with browns & pinks right now (using one of your patterns, which I love). Have several of your fabric collections in my stash. Would like to do a quilt with turquoise.

    Mary Ann

  651. Margaret | 15th Sep 11

I love all your colors, maybe a little soft aqua would be a nice complementary addition?

  652. Four dogs and one quilter | 15th Sep 11

Every year I say I want some chickens but then decide that they are too much work. I will enjoy your pattern instead. Would love to see some more purple in your new line.

  653. Carol C. | 15th Sep 11

Thanks so much for the chicken scratch pattern — it looks like so much fun to make!! I love all your colors in combination. I really love the pink/sage green/ blue! Thanks so much for the opportunity!

  654. Martha B | 15th Sep 11

a greyed aqua or a sage with a touch of lime.

  655. Margaret | 15th Sep 11

That looks a lot like my bucket list (except the trip to Poland), and that wrist with the friendship bracelets looks a lot like my daughter’s. 🙂 I would love to see some more creamy yellows. I love the browns you have in your new line.

  656. Carolyn H. | 15th Sep 11

I love orange of any shade! And I have a bucket list item that matches yours! A few chickens in their own cute little coop!! Thanks for sharing!

  657. Aubrey | 15th Sep 11

I really loved the blues in the Strawberry Fields line. The tone of them was just right. The line really drew me in because my grandma Velma was OBSESSED with strawberries; everything in her house had strawberries on it. When she died, we unearthed piles of strawberry keepsakes she’d hidden away.

I made a little bag for my cousin with one of the strawberry prints, and all of the ladies in my family (mom, aunt, cousins) immediately said, “Oh, that is so Velma!” My mom said Velma had a dress with almost that exact blue strawberry print. Needless to say, the items I’ve made from my fat quarter bundle of Strawberry Fields will be cherished for a long time.

  658. MaryAnn Gold | 15th Sep 11

I think you represented most of the color wheel, in a beautiful soft palette, and I love what you do with your patterns, you are a very talented lady, my favorite color is red, and anything fig tree,

  659. Libby | 15th Sep 11

My favorite colors are dusty/muted shades of coral and turquoise. I think that those colors have a vintage feel.

  660. Marsha | 15th Sep 11

Love the new fabric line and love the picture of the autumn leaves and thread spools. I like greens, but the aquas are so pretty too. I enjoyed reading your bucket list, it is so close to mind it was funny…except I gave up on the knitting and I want a potting shed instead of chicken coop!

  661. Phyllis | 15th Sep 11

Your fabrics are just gorgeous! The colours you use are inspiring. My favourites are creams and ivories… and I am beginning to become curious about greys.

  662. Maryann | 15th Sep 11

  663. Diana | 15th Sep 11

  664. emily | 15th Sep 11

    More purples! 😉

  665. Deborah | 15th Sep 11

Love the coral red for a blush of color, but for wrapping up everything, it’s got to be the Fig Tree soft green. You might could add the soft middle blue of a Texas Bluebonnet, or the dusky blue of a white frosted-skin blueberry

  666. Claudia | 15th Sep 11

Wow. What color would I like to see in your line? I noticed when I started buying your fabric and kits I didn’t have any orange in my stash. Now, thanks to you, I have a lot. I’d like to see orange-pink colors to blend the tons of pink I have into your orange colors.

  667. Holly T. | 15th Sep 11

Periwinkle Blue, it’s a purplish blue.

  668. Janice | 15th Sep 11

It would be delightful to have some greens in your fabric lines. I always love your soft peach fabrics. Thanks for the giveaway!

  669. Carolyn | 15th Sep 11

I love all your fabrics, but the pinkish shades are my favorites. I’ve recenting been using the line with the French map background.

  670. Mary Beth | 15th Sep 11

Love your fabrics and your colors…red and blue are my favorites…and yellow…get the chickens. We have them and they are such fun! The children love chasing and carrying them around. Two just started laying last week. We researched breeds for dual purpose and calmness for children…our Barred Rocks are pets, they come when we call them. Americanas will lay blue and green eggs but don’t like to be touched.

  671. "Pat" | 15th Sep 11

My favorite color is blue and your blue is heavenly. I’m just a beginning quilter, but I am afraid to start. I am so in love with fabrics that are out there that I am just a little afraid I will just collect fabric. Thanks for you imspiration. Pat

  672. Joan | 15th Sep 11

I love all the colours in your fabrics, but if I had to choose one it would be sage green. Thank you for the lovely pattern for the dish towel. I have a collection of roosters so I am delighted with this freebie. Many thanks for your generous giveaway. I’d love to win this gorgeous fabric.

  673. Jan Stacey | 15th Sep 11

I love how you use shades of brown in your fabrics. In the new fabric line, however, I like the red and white print.

  675. Maria G | 15th Sep 11

I love the way you combine colors. What a gift! My favorite color right now is a dusty-grayish-not too light-purple. I can see it with every other color: gray, yellow, red, orange, turquoise…Love it!

  685. Jennifer Gwyn | 15th Sep 11

Orange peel sounds so bitter, but I guess with enough chocolate – everything is great!

    Thanks for the giveaway!!
    Jennifer – Houston,TX

    Karen in Breezy Point

  688. Shannon Young | 15th Sep 11

Hello from central Arkansas (Little Rock area). I keep a flock of heritage breed chickens in a bright yellow coop – Cluckingham Palace. It’s so much fun!!! I hope you give it a try some day. As for my favorite color, I love your reds that have a hint of coral tones. Simply gorgeous, my friend. 🙂 Have a great day! And the chicken apron is adorable to the extreme.

  694. Sherry | 15th Sep 11

I love green, from lime to forest.

  695. Polly | 15th Sep 11

It’s not fair to ask us to pick one favorite color of Fig Tree fabric! I am totally hooked on your palette. OK, if I have to choose I’ll narrow it down to three: pink, coral, aqua. But I’m so sad to leave out the greens, creams, yellows and reds. ;-( LOVE the chickens!

  696. Elizabeth Johnson | 15th Sep 11

Remember when Starbucks had Valencia Mochas? Yum! I miss it! I thought I was the only one who loved Orange and chocolate! I’d love to see Cornflower Blue in the next collection, just to keep with the country flair! Very pretty! Thanks for the chance!

I think I own some of every line you’ve ever introduced us too. I couldn’t tell you what my favorite color to sew with is, it all starts with seasons and my mood. I would love to see a “soft rasberry” color. The ones in your “Fig and Plum” line were my favorites!

My favorite color is aqua and mint which is why I just fell in love with your seafoam blues from Fresh Cotton.

  701. Linda Steller | 15th Sep 11

I’ve always been drawn to your color palette — I think what struck me most about it the first time I saw it, was your incorporating brown and making it look so alive. Now I see that your bucket list is very similar to mine too — except the trip with the kids and the bed and breakfast (that’s too much work for me!). I’m sure your next collection will be as lovely as those which have gone before.

  702. Caroline | 15th Sep 11

Fortunately (boo hoo!) we live 4 1/2 hours (each way!) from the nearest Trader Joe’s. I could live on those chocolate orange sticks. We actually took a “day trip” to TJ’s this year. Our big vacation… I also like those Pecan Clouds.

  708. DeDe Baker | 15th Sep 11

  764. Linda Kay | 15th Sep 11

I really find your color palette appealing – it is so soft. Since I love chocolate and raspberry together so much, why would a lovely chocolate and soft raspberry colors be good choice to add to your colors?
    Thanks for the darling pattern!
    Linda Kay

  765. Heidi | 15th Sep 11

I’m a primary colors fan-red, yellow and blue. And I love every variation of them. All of the Fig Tree palates seem to keep sneaking into my quilts though!

Green, all shades of green are my favorite. Looking forward to making Chicken Scratch! I have lots of embroidered flour sack towels from my Aunts that took me a long time to start using. I’m thinking that I’ll have the same problem with the chickens!? Too nice to use?

  768. Mary | 15th Sep 11

    Hi Joanna!

My wish is to have a darling chicken coop also. Of course, I must have chickens…no roosters! I love chickens. I love your new line so much. I am an old lady and all your designs take me back to a simpler time. I must say I favor the turquoise.
Thanks so much for giving us this chance to win!
See you in Houston, I hope.
    Mary

Oranges and creams. Hey, creamsickle! I love those! I am also inspired by colors, especially in a fabric store!!! Love the ideas you give me.

  779. Kris | 15th Sep 11

I am not really sure I have a favorite color! the day seems to dictate what colors stand out to me. Bright sunny days tend to make me gravitate to all that is vibrant like lemon yellows, grass greens and brilliant blues while overcast rainy days give me a sense for deep navy and tone on tone black. Springtime calls out to me with all that is soft and luxuriously pastel while fall reminds me of my love for those rich holiday colors of burnt orange with bold browns and Christmas reds and greens. I love it all!

  780. ericandawn@cox.net | 15th Sep 11

We have 2 chickens and I’d love to try the chicken scratch pattern with new fabric!!! Love it!

  781. Annette | 15th Sep 11

  783. Carol Anderson | 15th Sep 11

My friends and I are making your shabby fig aprons and teaching several people who have never sewn anything how to do so! Which, of course has led to pattern making and closet cleaning and cooking classes(one of our group make anything asian and the best fried chicken ever…now I can make it also) all from a free apron pattern on your blog. Isn’t the sewers life a treat! Love your fabrics. I hate it when Trader Joes is out of chocolate orange sticks also a long time favorite of mine. Their white cheddar cheese popcorn is to die for!

  784. Terrie | 15th Sep 11

Wow !!! Cheese on a stick huh !!! I LOVE cheese so am sure that would work for me 🙂
I think that you have the colors pretty much covered but would love to see a rose colored pink or gold yellow. and green….well that goes without saying.

  785. LizA. | 15th Sep 11

Red! Its’s a neutral, right?!?! Living in the PNW where gray is the dominant color for most of the year, we need COLOR to brighten things up. Red does the trick for me.

  786. Lauren JH | 15th Sep 11

I love all your colors — perhaps a little more gray? (I probably should say blue as I have 4 baby quilts that I need to be working on!!! Apparently, everything is coming up boys!) Thanks for the very generous giveaway – would love to win on of the gifts!

  787. Brenda Trojcak | 15th Sep 11

Love the project Joanna, I am making my list of who to make this fun project for! Keep the good things coming, we love them. I love the colors you use and that I can always spot your fabric and it pulls me to it! My in-laws raise chickens on their little farm and also have 2 huge white turkeys. Knowing how much they love their pets I asked my mother-in-law what they had named them, to which she chuckled and replied, “Thanksgiving and Christmas”! If course these two will never see the dinner table!

  788. Shelley | 15th Sep 11

Love the chocolate coverd orange peel, Dark brown and Orange are 2 of my favorite colors.
Hanging Up on your husband during a presentation….priceless!!

Joanna, I am hoping you will add more PEACH PEACH PEACH to new collections. I love peach and peachy pinks. I am hoping for more peach fabrics that I can use alongside the DEEP ROSE color you have famously used in a number of your collections. In tandem the peach and rose colors just warm me right up —— and even have the power to snap me out of a bad mood! I love this combination in your fabrics!
    Thanks for a great blog.

I love your post. I had to laugh at what you said about Dirty Dancing and Footloose. My sixteen year old son is totally disgusted that they are remaking Footloose…pretty sad that they have to remake a classic and can’t come up with some new ideas. Or is it that now days the movies they come up with are mostly CRAP!! Your fabric is gorgeous. My favorite color is any shade of purple. Thanks for the opportunity to enter.

  815. AnnieO | 15th Sep 11

Great Bucket List items! Thanks for sharing those. We do have a Hot Dog on a Stick store in our mall but I have never had the cheese treat. Hmmm. The TIVO story is hilarious. We are so “backward” around here that we don’t have a DVR. I try to watch very little TV. DH watches lots of sports and will watch a movie that he comes across even if it is the MIDDLE of the movie. This makes me leave the room, lol.

My favorite color in your collections is that gorgeous olive green. More, please!

  816. CherylL | 15th Sep 11

I have loved every one of your fabric lines and colors! They speak to me and my heart. If I had a choice of an additional color it would have to be a vintage yellow – one that would compliment your other fabrics. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  817. Christy | 15th Sep 11

  895. Jeanette B. | 15th Sep 11

It would be nice to see a darker color to compliment the lights such as a nice choc. brown or a dark rich blue.

  896. Sally Howard | 15th Sep 11

Thanks for the cute rooster pattern. I think plum would work well with many of your colors.

  897. Mary B. | 15th Sep 11

Your whole color palette is OUTSTANDING – hard to pick a favorite but if I have to – creams, apricots, (your reds) and blues. Oh yes and beiges!!

  898. Melanie Jones | 15th Sep 11

I love the chicken scratch …. colors of your fabric are yummy.

  899. Michele, a distracted quilter | 15th Sep 11

I love your reds. In fact the word “red” just doesn’t do them justice. There is a warmth and glow to them that makes me all “gooey” and inclined to fabric petting. Then there’s your peaches and apricots – I’m always surprised that the fabric doesn’t emit the aromas of a fruit orchard on a hot summer day. Oh! And the caramels and browns…..

  900. Sylvia/Little Treasures | 15th Sep 11

Wonderfully fun post. Shades of green/pink, but I love all colors and variety. Thanks for the Chicken Scratch idea, I went to print it off and it is in a foreign language, will try again. Fun spot to visit if you are into a Chicken coop…. http://www.coopplans.bigcartel.com/
adorable plans. The MODA Fair has been soooo full of ideas and inspiration. Thanks for the fun.

  903. Karen Gonzalez | 15th Sep 11

Thank you for the chickens. I know someone that would appreciate some chicken dish towels for a gift.
Oh another project while I spend time at my husbands softball games.
My favorite color is the brown/orange fall color. You do that color nicely.
As always your fabric lines are lovely, pretty, and hugable. Some people like to dive into a pile of leaves… If you build the fig Tree fabric pile I would dive into it and happily roll around in it.

Thank you for the chance to win some fig tree fabrics…Karencg

  904. Pam | 15th Sep 11

Pinks and greens are my favorite, with a new baby girl recently joining our family, I’ve been thinking in more ‘feminine’ palettes. Enjoy your blog! Virginia greetings to you.

My favorite dessert combo right now is chocolate and mint, but I’m picking up a Fleur de Sel caramel and chocolate cake for my hubby’s birthday later today and am prepared to change my favorite if it’s as good as I’ve heard!

Some purple would be great! I love to add a little to my fall quilt projects and is hard to find a good fall purple.

  923. Elin Gudjonsdottir | 15th Sep 11

It’s difficult to choose because I love your color combinations and the warm feeling they give you – I’ve always favored blue colors but now I am drawn to caramel brown and buttery yellow and pink …so antique rose would be a great color to add. Thank you for the free pattern 🙂 Elin

  924. Sara | 15th Sep 11

Your fabrics call to my romantic nostalgic being. They actually bring a souce of comfort and well-being as you look at them and feel them. Cotton is a wonderful thing..don’t you think? The softness as it ages through each washing. The color possibilities are endless! I wish I had a favorite color…but there are simply too many to choose from. But for a change and show stopper maybe you could somehow incorporate shades of black.

  925. Dottie | 15th Sep 11

Loved watching your video. My favorite color to add to the already lovely colors of Fig Tree would be a…..well heck…you already have the most wonderful selection of colors and I love them all! When I buy Fig Tree fabric I can hardly stand the thought of cutting it!!!

  926. Barbara | 15th Sep 11

I love anything in green. I just came from Trader Joe’s. Guess what I bought?

  927. Lynn Wingard | 15th Sep 11

Your fabric color selections always please my eye as I’m drawn to the softer colors. I do use brights, darks etc. and I love batiks. Your bucket list has a few items I would like to do, too. And I have been to Ireland which is a wonderful place. Yes, 40 shades of green is only the beginning.

    Lynn W.

  932. Charlotte Williams | 15th Sep 11

Thx for all the inspiration, 🙂

  933. Julie in WA | 15th Sep 11

I most associate Fresh Figs with that peachy fleshy color. I don’t know why.

I actually have fresh figs on my tree right now. They are a lovely shade of green, and inside is that very sweet peachy-fleshy colored gobble-it-up fruit. Hmmm…

And your fabrics ~ those are all just gorgeous. I’d love to see some mauve colors with black maybe. Of course, I am always going to say I’d love to see anything in the purple colorway since I LOVE purple.

  954. Diana | 15th Sep 11

When Fig Tree is mentioned I always think soft, warm, beautiful, complimentary colors. To single one out as a favorite is hard because it’s the dance they do together that makes your line so special. Keep doing what you do so well, Joanna.

  955. Betty | 15th Sep 11

I really like the soft colors that you choose. I appreciate the soft browns that are so necessary in the lines too. I never choose orange, seldom purple, and not very many burgundy tones.

  956. Dawn Moore | 15th Sep 11

Great post. You already use my favorite color which is the green you usually use in your lines but I am liking the reds you have used in the last couple of lines especially the Butterscotch and Roses reds.

  971. Christine | 15th Sep 11

I absolutely love all of your colors and the combination of colors (the creams, yellows, apricots, greens, blues, browns) feel so warm and soothing. Incredibly beautiful. Your blues and greens might be my favorites (if I’m forced to choose) because it wasn’t until I “discovered” your fabrics that I finally found the perfect blues and greens – I’d always had to settle for “close enough” before! I would also love to see some gray – I’m starting to see a lot more gray in quilts and love the look! I also LOVE your new Butterscotch & Rose collection – I can’t wait to get my hands on some!

  972. Betty | 15th Sep 11

  988. Rita Bright | 15th Sep 11

Yummy, yummy fabric! My local shop, Strawberry Patches, usually has some of your line, but I sure wish she carried the whole kit & kaboodle. Although, if I win, I won’t have to worry that, I’ll get a little of everything. This virtual day at the fair is so much fun.
    Thanks

I am new to your line of fabrics and really love your colors. Just ordered the Fresh Vintage Laundry Basket issue. Everything I own is pink — even our house is painted 5 shades of pink. I love soft pink and soft mossy green — and you have those colors so I am happy with all that you do! Your butterscotch rose line will be a favorite of mine, I’m sure!

  993. Charlotte | 15th Sep 11

My favorite colors are corals & aquas. Thanks for the chicken scratch pattern. My sisters and I love things with chickens and roosters on them. Sure would love one of your giveaways as your fabric lines are my favs!

    Shirley

  995. Rita Bright | 15th Sep 11

  996. Marlene | 15th Sep 11

  997. Debbie H | 15th Sep 11

I love, love, love all your fabric colors, and would like anything you add. My favorites are the yellow and green in your Dandelion Girl line. And I am still working on my BOM of it from 2 years ago. The applique in the center is not yet done, but the piecework blocks are.

  998. Mary Lu Booker | 15th Sep 11

    Love Butterscotch and Rose!

  999. Billie K | 15th Sep 11

Aqua is my favorite color…thanks for the pattern and the chance to win.

  1000. Lisa Leighton | 15th Sep 11

Purples mesmerize me. Yellows delight me. Pinks always look like that pretty blonde girl who was so popular in school (I was a brunette with glasses). But I always come back to French blue. It’s somehow warm and cool at the same time. Elegant and plain, classic and modern. Dignified and unassuming. I decorated our 100-year-old Arts & Crafts house from a washcloth in French blue, then added Tuscan gold, canvas, cocoa and white. I would love to see what you could imagine with French blue.

  1001. Kathy B. | 15th Sep 11

The combination of colors you use is inspiring. If I could add a color to your collection it would be a plum-red, not too bright, very washed out, almost the color of a cross between a pomegranate and plum. Thanks for the Chicken Scratch applique towel pattern – cute!

  1002. Kathy C | 15th Sep 11

I have been using more red in my quilts lately and yours are perfect.
Heading over to my LQS this weekend to pick some up. Thanks.

I’m with you Joanna – colour inspires, that wonderful feeling when you got the LARGEST crayola box with magenta and flesh pink that really wasn’t flesh pink but oh well, there were so many other colours that people could be! I find it impossible to choose one and I just love the colours in your new bundle…fingers crossed!

I’m in love with your fabrics. I’ve always been a lover of the color blue and I love how all your colors coordinate so beautifully with all your shades of blue. Now that my breast cancer is in remission, I’ve noticed that I’ve add more pinks into quilt stash. I one daughter and one step granddaughter, so someday that may have lots of pink in some beautiful quilts, too. Of course, right now, one of my five year old grandsons tells me that his favorite color is PINK, so I’m going to incorporte some pink in some of his quilts, too. Thank you so much for hosting the giveaway and also for the the new Butterscoth and Rose Collection for all us to anticipate.

  1020. DianeM | 15th Sep 11

Holey Moley! You have over 1000 comments! I always love your color palettes so I don’t think you need to add any new colors – a dark chocolate brown would be nice, and as a challenge I’d love to see how you’d work black into a line- would probably be awesome 🙂

  1027. Susan | 15th Sep 11

My favorite color is cream, and then all the beautiful aqua blues, and reds, and soft greens, and…..I guess all colors. You have the most divine colorways that I can’t choose just one.

  1028. Jacquelyn Kelley | 15th Sep 11

I haven’t seen any of your colors yet that I didn’t love! The play of soft apricot and robin’s egg blue are amazing as is cream with either one of them! Even the feel of your fabrics is superior! Love them all!

  1029. Dawn Pry | 15th Sep 11

Authentic 40’s acid green or apple green,I’m not sure what it is but very few lines ever have that exact hue of all those old painted cupboards and woodwork, wooden handled kitchen utensils. It just makes me ache when I spot it somewhere! My mom had some in her box of feedsack prints and I’ve used it all up. So sad, so you need to make some more.

  1030. Renee Arnett | 15th Sep 11

Your blog brings sunshine to my busy days each time I visit your site.

  1031. Donna Joy | 15th Sep 11

Aqua, aqua, and more aqua. I love it with brown and yellow. Calming and cool. Though for winter, I’d love to see it in a deeper shade, more teal . . .

  1036. Sharon | 15th Sep 11

  1057. Amanda S | 15th Sep 11

I am also drawn in by color first! If I see something in a color I don’t like, it is hard for me to get past that and see the design.

I would love to see more coral. You know, not too pink, not too orange? It is so warm for fall, but lively enough for spring and summer, too!

  1073. Dallas | 15th Sep 11

Hi, love the post and the pictures. I have to say I love your fabric combinations. I would like to see how you would incorporate a black or gray; a sort of hard stop to color instead of white. Now there’s a challenge for you. 🙂

  1074. Chrissy | 15th Sep 11

I love the colors you are using in combination. The aqua and red tones are esp. delish! I am partial to purple and teal. It is doubtful that either of those fits in well with the existing line, LOL.

  1084. Mary | 15th Sep 11

First, I have to say how many things on your bucket list are also on mine! There is a blue you had but I don’t remember which collection. The butterscotch sounds wonderful – I’m really looking forward to that one. And the rose. I also love love love the Strawberry Fields line.
