Introducing…

I am so very excited and proud to share with you, my latest "baby". Many a times I did indeed compare it to child birth so I guess the metaphor has stuck!

My new book….

WITH FABRIC & THREAD

It feels like it has been such a long time in the coming but I guess if I look at it all with better perspective, it hasn't been that long at all- at least not for a book process that is!

I will tell you much more in the upcoming weeks and share a lot of fun stuff about the process & the projects. For now I am just happy to show you this!

Bookcover

The book showcases projects that are both geared towards quilters as well as sewers and focuses on both of these wonderful worlds in separate sections of the book!

Leave a comment telling me what topic in the book-  QUILTING or SEWING- you are most excited about or interested in and I will enter you to win a mini bundle of our newest fabric collection, California Girl!

We will draw at the end of this week so be sure to check back.

Can't wait to hear which "side" you are coming from. Geesh, I can barely wait to show you more goodies!

  5. Tina in Nevada | 20th Mar 12

I actually came across your new book at Amazon last week and preordered it – I can hardly wait for it to get here! I’m a quilter and just love your patterns!

  6. Heidi | 20th Mar 12

BOTH! Perhaps quilting a little more than sewing… I got a sewing machine to do sewing for my little ones but have ended up falling in love with quilting!

  7. Suzanne | 20th Mar 12

I’m a novice at sewing but am extremely interested in quilting. Would love to peruse your book and see what I can learn.

  9. notnot | 20th Mar 12

    Both!
I have been sewing for many years, but I “discovered” quilting a bit over a year ago. Now, quilting is taking more and more of my time.

  10. Denise J. | 20th Mar 12

Looking forward to the quilting portion.

  11. Megan | 20th Mar 12

I guess I’d have to say sewing, because I love making quilt tops but agonize over the quilting.

  12. cathy payne | 20th Mar 12

Both!! But I guess I do prefer quilting a little more! 🙂 I love your last book, and so do all my relatives who have ended with an apron from it!

  19. Rebecca S. | 20th Mar 12

Probably Quilting, but I love getting sewing ideas as well. I just love California Girl. My LQS just got yardage in and I’m hoping to make it there before the ocean blue is sold out.

  20. Anne D | 20th Mar 12

  24. Betty | 20th Mar 12

    Quilting without a doubt.

  25. Sharon @ A Prairie Sunrise | 20th Mar 12

Both sewing & quilting for me. I learned to sew garments & quilt within a couple months of each other and go through phases of both. Right now I’m on a quilting kick. 🙂

Can’t wait to hear more about your new book!! Congratulations! 🙂

  26. Beth | 20th Mar 12

I’m so excited about this book! I will love both sides but will learn from the sewing since I don’t do much of that.
    Beth

  27. Marie Cheesman | 20th Mar 12

I’ve done both but have to say that at this point in my life it’s the quilting that gets my vote. I’ll be anxious to see the book.

  28. Karen | 20th Mar 12

Yay !! Quilting mostly — but sewing too !!

    How exciting — Congratulations!

    Karen

  29. Barbara G | 20th Mar 12

Both! Please don’t make me choose…I can’t imagine my life without fabric to sew!

  30. Kelly Wenhold | 20th Mar 12

Quilting, quilting, quilting – I think that about covers it!

  31. Christine | 20th Mar 12

Quilting for me but I’m sure I’ll love the sewing projects too.

  32. Angie | 20th Mar 12

At first I would say quilting. However, I’m in need for some inspiration to kick start sewing again. Can’t wait to check out both sides of the book! Thanks for the giveaway!

  33. Christine | 20th Mar 12

I actually learned to sew as I desperately wanted to make quilts. Yet know almost 15 years later, I have decided that I also really like to sew items for my home, my girls, etc. Just wish I had more time to do it all!!

  34. Ashley | 20th Mar 12

    Quilting!

  35. welchrobin@hotmail.com | 20th Mar 12

I started with “sewing” and then moved into quilting, and I’m most excited with the “sewing” part of your book because lately I have really missed it! I would LOVE some CA Girl– I will use it to make those hooded towels you were kind enough to help me out with (and now I see the book you mentioned– I cannot WAIT to get my hands on my own copy!!!!!) Congrats!

i used to be sewing. but i have converted to the quilting side of things!

  37. Donna | 20th Mar 12

  38. JudyBL | 20th Mar 12

    Quilting! thanks for the giveaway.

  39. Ramona Chester | 20th Mar 12

Quilting and being a long time but now mis-placed California Girl, that collection is dear to my heart!

  40. Louise | 20th Mar 12

Quilting sounds good to me. I do like sewing projects too, but not today. I’ve been ripping out a zipper on a dress I’m making and can’t seem to get it right. Looking for ward to a quilting project. love your designs

  41. Heather | 20th Mar 12

BOTH. I totally love that flower on the front, I hope the pattern is included. I will be more likely to make the quilty project, but I love both.

  42. Annie | 20th Mar 12

Both make me happy, but I’m siding with the quilts, as quilting combines sewing, art, and practicality. I’m looking forward to checking out your new book…it looks like a lot of fun is between those covers!

  43. Manda | 20th Mar 12

Ooo both!? Probably the sewing side at the moment as I am started to look to learning more sewing! Exciting though I can’t wait to see more!

  44. Rebecca Woods | 20th Mar 12

I’m very excited about the quilting side as I love quilting but will certainly be checking out the sewing side as well as I like to try that too!!! Congrats on the book! I can’t wait to see it as I know it is going to be amazing 🙂

  45. LisaAnn | 20th Mar 12

Both! I do both quilting and sewing and could use extra practice on both so…I can’t wait for your book!

  46. Annessa | 20th Mar 12

Sheesh, I have to choose? Quilting! No, wait, Sewing! Aw, shucks, both. Can’t wait to see the book!

  47. Brittany | 20th Mar 12

    definitely quilting! 🙂

  48. Michelle | 20th Mar 12

I can’t wait to get my copy! I am most interested in the quilting section but have tried to branch out and do a few other sewing projects too. This will be a fun book to try my hand at other things. 🙂

  49. Kym | 20th Mar 12

Beautiful! Can’t wait to see the quilting section, thanks for the chance to win.

  50. Nicola | 20th Mar 12

Looking forward to the quilting projects, Joanna. But am very willing to be pushed out of my cushion-cover-comfort-zone too! x

  51. l@jandle.com | 20th Mar 12

I’m most interested in sewing. Or at least that seems to be the part I do get to at this point. I do have classic quilts that I want to do in the future.

  52. Meredith F. | 20th Mar 12

The quilting side…but maybe the sewing side! I need some smaller quicker finish type things. Looking forward to it!

  53. Terrie | 20th Mar 12

I am pretty solidly in the quilting camp but am willing to venture out of the comfort zone a little bit 🙂 !!! LOVE the cover, can’t wait to see more !!!

  54. Linda | 20th Mar 12

HELLO! SEWED GARMENTS FOR YEARS,BUT NOW I’M LEARNING TO MACHINE QUILT, SO I’LL LEAN TOWARD THE QUILTING SECTION. LOVE QUILTING! REALLY LIKE YOUR DESIGNS TOO!
    THANK YOU FOR SHARING!

  55. Marge | 20th Mar 12

Oh my, do I have to pick one? I started out sewing clothing, and have now gone to sewing other projects, mainly quilting projects. However I am scared of FMQ and haven’t quite mastered it yet. So I guess I’ll be excited about both! And I am really excited about California Girl!

  56. Tatkis | 20th Mar 12

That book looks so beautiful – congratulations!
Since I’ve never tried quilting, I’d say sewing 🙂 but I always wanted to try!

    Hugs,
    Tatyana

  57. Judtih | 20th Mar 12

    Quilting!

  58. Anna | 20th Mar 12

I am excited about both quilting and sewing. If only we could sew in our sleep. Think of all we would get done!

  59. Sara | 20th Mar 12

Wow! It’s soooo hard to decide. These days they both go hand in hand. Quilting! No! Sewing! No! Gosh darn…I guess it will have to be both. Judging from the front cover…we can’t go wrong with either! Would love to win this!

  60. Becky Greene | 20th Mar 12

I love Quilting – it will always be my first love. However, I am trying to branch out a bit, so I might peek at the Sewing section, too – LOL!! Thanks for the chance to win and congratulations on your latest “edition”.

  61. Suzy McQ | 20th Mar 12

That’s like asking which child you prefer! But, since you are twisting my arm….sewing, just because I’ve done more of it.

A HUGE congratulations on your new book, it looks delicious enough to eat! Can’t wait to get one into my grubby little hands!

  62. Jeannie | 20th Mar 12

Quilting! But please know that I come from a sewing world and would be interested in that section, too. So two for one — in the same book. Definitely a money saver, right?

  63. Andrea | 20th Mar 12

quilting! although I am anxious to read the whole thing!

  64. Kathy McDonald | 20th Mar 12

BOTH! I spend MOST of my time quilting, but am ready to find a few fun sewing projects for more instant gratification!

  65. Martha | 20th Mar 12

Well, I guess both. You have to SEW a quilt together before you can QUILT it. I learned to sew 50 years ago. I used my mother’s sewing machine until I graduated from high school and received my own as a gift. I love your fabrics and patterns and can’t wait to see your new book.

  66. Veronica | 20th Mar 12

I’m looking forward to checking out the sewing section, if the cover flower is into this one, it’s lovely!
    Cannot wait,
    Veronica

  67. Sharon | 20th Mar 12

Oh, I love both, but would have to pick quilting over sewing. I just know your book will offer much that I will enjoy in both realms. Thanks for the opportunity to win some California Girl…just love the spring-time colors and look of this line. Congrats on the book!

  68. Kris | 20th Mar 12

Pretty cover! More interested in quilting, however, if the sewing projects are small (i.e. not garments), then I do those too. Thanks for the chance for your lovely fabric.

  69. julianne | 20th Mar 12

    awesome! I am a quilter! 🙂

  70. Jan Stacey | 20th Mar 12

Oh I’m evenly divided…quilting or sewing…both make me happy!

  72. Laura | 20th Mar 12

Quilting (but I am sure the sewing part is great, too!) Congrats!

  73. Chris | 20th Mar 12

  77. Mary Grace McNamara | 20th Mar 12

Can’t wait to see more of both quilting and sewing! I am an equal opportunity stitcher! I just made myself a purse using your scrap lab pattern in the latest issue of Quilts and More and I posted about it the other day on my blog, including the changes I made to it to make it work perfectly for me! I love it!

Thanks for a chance at some of your beautiful fabric!

    MGM

  78. Beth F | 20th Mar 12

I saw California Girl today for the first time in a quilt shop, it took my breath away it is so pretty. I was a sewer before a quilter but now I hardly sew anymore at all. I cut out a blouse (probably the use of the term blouse tells you how old I am) last summer and never sewed it, maybe this year! I am definitely a quilter rather than a sewer. Thank you so much for your beautiful fabrics and blog. I can’t wait to see your new book.

    Beth F.

  79. Lynda H | 20th Mar 12

right now it is quilting, but as my grandbabies grow (they aren’t a year old yet) I will be doing lots of sewing for them (triplets)!

  80. audrey | 20th Mar 12

definitely the quilting. your fabrics always inspire me to do more quilting!

  89. Cheryl | 20th Mar 12

Whee! So excited! I love both – been doing more quilting lately – but love non-flat projects as well:-)

  90. Karen | 20th Mar 12

Quilting out of the two options, but a third option should have been the project photography. You never disappoint with pictures.

  91. Marcia P. | 20th Mar 12

I so appreciate your creative talent. And the colors, what can I say, they say peace, calm, warmth and security to me. I would love quits and them many petite projects. I think I have all of your patterns. I really should send you a picture of lateste that I finished. I have to admit I added a bit. My hubby requests that I do something different so he knows what part is goes to the head of the bed. So I had to add that. You Go Girl!!!

  92. Tracey Rampling | 20th Mar 12

While I’m always keen to see quilting projects, I have to say I’d be quite excited to see your sewing section… I just read your “Designer Tidbits” interview on the Jolly Jabber and I’m in love with those little mice! They remind me of the felt mice my mom made when I was a kid – she did them as teacher gifts one year.. there was a set of Christmas mice (boy & girl) and Wedding mice (bride & groom).. I’ve been meaning to make her find the pattern so I could make some for my Christmas tree, but yours would be gorgeous to make too!

  93. Sandy M | 20th Mar 12

Congrats on your new “baby”! I look forward to seeing the quilting projects!

I am very excited about the quilting projects. Thank you for the contest.

  117. Kristy | 20th Mar 12

  118. Lisa | 20th Mar 12

Oh, I am really bad at picking sides — definitely FABRIC first! If I have to choose…QUILTING! Congratulations on your new baby, I can’t wait to see her up close and personal.

  119. Cecilia Young | 20th Mar 12

I would have to say quilting! Thanks for the giveaway.

  120. Bebe | 20th Mar 12

Quilting! But I have sewn stuff all my life–to me, it’s all sewing, but currently have more of a repertoire of finished quilts, quilts in progress, quilt kits wating to be made, and quilt designs waiting to be drawn…so it’s quilting!

  121. Laura | 20th Mar 12

Oooh, this looks like a fabulous book. I would have to say I’m looking forward to the sewing projects, although I’m sure the quilts will be beautiful to look at.

  122. Brooke | 20th Mar 12

OH, Congrats! Quilting, for sure, although I’m excited to see it all!

  126. Sandy Stoessel | 20th Mar 12

I am interested and happy to hear that both crafts will be in the book. I started sewing my own clothes following my mother who sewed everything for me, even my wedding dress. After I married I took sewing up for my self. I then became interested in home decor which led me about 6 years ago to quilting, which is now my greatest love. I love Fig Tree Fabrics and just bought your new kit California Girl for a quilt for my bedroom.

  127. ycreations | 20th Mar 12

I love the fabrics and the quilts.

  128. Nicole Gendy | 20th Mar 12

Most interested in quilting, but sewing is enticing too!

  129. Tami | 20th Mar 12

I cannot wait to read about the quilting projects! I also just saw you on the Fat Quarter Jolly Jabber and wrote my “feelings” about your fabrics…..but I think you already know that I LOVE all of your fabric lines and I am sure your book will be no different.
    Tami

  130. robin | 20th Mar 12

    Quilting!

  131. terry | 20th Mar 12

I bet the quilting projects will be great! but would love the sewing projects also. Love the cover….

  132. Lou | 20th Mar 12

Ooooh, this looks like a great book. Quilting would be my preference, but it’s all good.

  133. samanthacoombes@me.com | 20th Mar 12

  138. Abby | 20th Mar 12

I am always excited about learning all kinds of new things in quilting, but I am trying to branch out and make more three dimensional projects. I want to conquer all of my sewing fears and learn to make beautiful things of all kinds.

  139. cynthia | 20th Mar 12

Quilting ! But also sewing !
The cover pincushion is tempting !
Thank you for the giveaway !

  144. Susan | 21st Mar 12

Both…I have paint chip colors taped on my walls, I am in the process of changing out one very large room to all fig tree colors and fabrics. So needless to say I am kinda hoarding yards and yards of different lines to mix and match for cushions. Of course it is already gonna be loaded with quilts. Just gotta get the hubs to help me paint. Misery loves company in that game..hahahaha. Susan

  145. Heidi S | 21st Mar 12

It is so weird, that people do not seem to understand the terminology of what they are saying and doing. Many people I know at several Bay-Area Quilter’s Guilds seem to outsource the quilting portion of their quilt projects. So, what they actually like and actually DO is the piecing, perhaps some designing, but it is the SEWING of pieces together into shapes and patterns that is the icing on the cake. But, for some reason, many people call that process “quilting” because the end product is a Quilt. It is actually the SEWING that is most people’s true love. Me? I LOVE to hand quilt, it soothes my soul, I can sit in the same room as my husband and work pretty patterns as he gets entertained by a NetFlix show. We are together, we are both happy with our entertainments. I also love to sew, but sitting at a sewing machine is an isolated event, so, I prefer to hand-sew at the very least any appliqués. My answer to your question: I love both SEWING and QUILTING!

  586. Carolyn Gibbons | 22nd Mar 12

I like the little sewing projects! It looks like a wonderful book!

  587. Jan Richards | 22nd Mar 12

Oh my goodness Quilts & Sewing! I’m really obsessed with quilt books though!

  638. Melanie Glade | 22nd Mar 12

I go back and forth between the two as the ages and stages of my life vary. I started out sewing quilts while living with my ailing grandmother as a young girl. Through college I sewed. Marriage and my own home brought lots of quilting, babies brought both, and now I struggle to find time for any of it!!! But my children will grow up and leave me–a mixed bag of feelings, here–and I will again have long hours to fill with… Sewing? Quilting? How about BOTH!!!

  639. Joann McLean | 22nd Mar 12

Well, I am a sewer who quilts…or is that a quilter who sews???? LOL either way I already have your new book on my preorder list. I just purchased Fresh Vintage Sewing last week and I don’t know why I waited so long to get it because I LOVE everything in it…but I must admit I just adore the sewing projects and I just finished a few little eggs using some Strawberry Fields charms- they are adorable! Thanks so much for sharing your talent!
